MMA Comments that Don't Warrant a Thread
RavishingRickRudo replied to RavishingRickRudo's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
Garcia reacted like he had never been punched before. Which hopefully will be cured in time. His positioning is sick, but he shouldn't try for only submissions as the real benefit in MMA of being an elite grappler is that you can get into positions that allow you to punch your opponent without your opponent being able to fire back. There were a bunch of situations where Garcia could have done serious damage (double attack, back, mount) and opted to go the submission grappling route rather the MMA route. His punches were more of a formality and distraction rather than a way to end the fight. Jacare is an example of someone who uses his grappling as a way to set up GnP and is more effective in doing it that way. Hopefully Garcia will learn from this, since it's his first fight it's essentially a freebie, because the GnP adjustment can be made fairly easily which would improve his game greatly. -

Seeing as how the actress herself wasn't Ukranian, and being from there had little to no effect on the plot, it doesn't seem like there was any real reason for it.

YES. On a related note, Cutthroat Bitch is great. On an unrelated note, why the Eastern Euro accent?

Brock Lesnar is now OFFICIALLY in the UFC
RavishingRickRudo replied to Mik's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
But TUF is a system that is all about developing fighters, while Lesnar is brought in as a Box Office Attraction, which makes it a bit different. The novelty of Brock Lesnar: Fighter, will wear off after two or three fights, by which people will start bitching about him being protected and want to see him fight legit opposition. Four total fights isn't nearly enough to fight actually good fighters. By the way they were lobbing softballs at Semmy beforehand, I think Schilt was meant to beat Fedor in that fight and then go-on to fight Nog for the title. In general, UFC does a good job with bringing up a lot of their fighters. But those are actually good fighters that have proven themselves. Guys who have gotten their feet wet. UFC is more about competition than attraction, so while they won't be throwing for Lesnars head, it's hard to see them giving him a bunch of softballs either. Whereas PRIDE was all about giving freaks like Lesnar tee balls. -

But Sapp really wasn't much of a fighter. History has shown Sapp to be pure hype, as he never defeated anyone with an over .500 record with the exception of Kiyoshi Tamura, who he outweighed by a solid billion pounds. He got absolutely creamed by Fujita. Lesnar could be something of a force in MMA, given his physical gifts, but I doubt he will be one if he doesn't have time to develop, which I doubt the UFC will let him do given how much they are probably paying him. And this is the UFC, so the odds of us seeing Yoshihisa Yamamoto across the ring from Brock is unlikely. One year training isn't enough by any means, especially if you want to be competitive. Brock should at least get a few amateur bouts under his belt before entering the big time, but I bet that sounds ridiculous to some given his pedigree, however it's the way real fighters develop. -

Kerr was a great fighter when in there against the likes of Paul Varlens, Moti Horenstein and Gregg Stott. However, while Kerr had certain strengths which allowed him to look impressive against schlubs (including rules which befitted wrestlers), he had certain weaknesses and proved that being a really good wrestler isn't enough, even back 5 years ago. -

Brock Lesnar is now OFFICIALLY in the UFC
RavishingRickRudo replied to Mik's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
At this point in time, consider Lesnar, Mark Kerr. Any time you look at a potential fight for Lesnar, think "Mark Kerr would win"? And you have an approximation in regards to Lesnars success. Which is to say, he'd do real well against Krav Maga and made up Military fighting techniques. Against real fighters with good training? Not so with the much. -
If you watch fighting only for good technique, then that's your shit and have fun with it. But some people watch it for more than just well executed moves and nice strategy.

Belcher/Starnes was fucking dope. Talent looked very good and lived up to the prospect label. A few more fights to develop him and he's a contender.
-
Travis Lutter has still performed the best against Silva. Lasting the longest, and coming the closest to winning. That's just weird.
-
Dana would probably pay Frank Shamrock a mil just to see Frank get his shit pushed by Anderson.
-
So? He's BJ PENN. He'd be competitive with Silva, he's a name in the game. Easy sell. Dana White: There's a lot of middleweight prospects right now, but no one has really stood out from the pack as a challenger to Anderson. So I talk with our matchmaker Joe Silva about who we should put in line for a title shot - who would give Anderson a run for his money - and Joe says "What about BJ"? Now, I'm like, Penn? BJ Penn? You want BJ Penn, a 155 guy, to fight 30 pounds above his weight class against the most dominant champion in the sport? And he didn't have to answer me, cause if there's one person who is good enough, and who is crazy enough, to step in against Anderson Silva, it's BJ Penn. So we call up BJ and he's like "I was waiting for you to offer me that fight, let's do it". Watching the post-fight stuff on UFC.com, and damn if Silva and Franklin aren't two of the classiest motherfuckers in the game. Silva saying "sorry" and Rich being all "You don't have to be sorry"... it reminded me of GWH and the scene with Robin Williams and Matt Damon. "It's not your fault".

Rashad Evans versus Michael Bisping to headline UFC 78
RavishingRickRudo replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
Well, Reshad vs. Bisping is one of the bigger "name" fights you can get in a post-TUF world. The sell of "TUF 2 champion vs. TUF 3 champion" is a good one. Not a half-a-million-buys good one, but it's not the worst thing they could have done with the options they have. What they really need is for Bisping to run his mouth a lot and sell a rivalry. -
In regards to light, LHW's, I think Shogun, Lyoto, Reshad, Hendo and Bisping are guys who could drop in weight and make for some fights (Bisping would get slaughtered, natch, but is a "name" fight), with both Shogun and Lyoto being good style fights for Silva. In regards to current roster guys, it's a shame Kendall had to get dropped by Cote, because Grove vs. Silva would have been their best choice. Both Kampmann and McFedries are one or two steps away from being actual challenging contenders for the gold, IMO, given their styles and positioning in the division. Okami is probably the closest thing, now, to a title shot, given his W/L record and history with Silva. It's a shame Chonan has dropped in weight because he'd probably be the easiest sell as a challenger to Anderson. In regards to left field guy: Lawler, Lindland, Almeida, Maia, Jacare, Filho, all come to mind as guys who could have a chance, stylistically as challengers. But most lack experience and/or placement in the division. Or have issues with management. The best "draw", probably, would be Matt Hughes going up in weight. Or maybe even BJ Penn.

Is this the first show they've done for PPV that didn't have a title on the line? -
Rashad Evans versus Michael Bisping to headline UFC 78
RavishingRickRudo replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
It looks like a glorified SPIKE main event, yes, but damn if the rest of the card ain't the shit. I luved the preview the UFC showed at 77. It's basically a show to show-off prospects. -
Fauntasy Picks: 71 out of 14653 Fucking Silva not beating Franklin in minute 2.

Brock Lesnar is now OFFICIALLY in the UFC
RavishingRickRudo replied to Mik's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
I'd go the Japanese route and give him Yoshiki Takahashi. -
Tim Sylvia + 5 Rounds = Death of Sport. Martin Kampmann + Adam Belcher = Death of Rudos pants Fukkit, have McFedries and Silva go at it. I don't care where Drew is at in the rankings, that fight makes me so very happy. Maia~!!! So fresh, so clean. Anderson Silva. I'd say "Anderson Silva is really fucking awesome", but the phrase "really fucking awesome" and anything like it has been replaced with "Anderson Silva". So from now on, "Hey, you should check out this Anderson Silva restaurant. It is really Anderson Silva".

Dude, the scene in the car when Sylar finds out their powers had me cheering. The look on his face? I was like "OOOoooh SYLAR~!"
