AMERICAN IDOl-SEASON 5: THE THREAD
RavishingRickRudo replied to Jericholic82's topic in Television & Film
Katharine could have SLAYED everyone if she stayed as good as she did during "Shall I stay, Would it be a sin, If I can’t help falling in love with you" verse. Watch the first few seconds of that performance and leave before she gets indulgent. -

Elliot and Taylor would be niche performers with limited market range, Katharine is all looks and is actually below Carrie. Carrie fit Country. But what Niche is Elliot? With Taylor you can pretty much say who he appeals to, but I can't quite say who Elliot would appeal to. He's a RnB/Soulish kinda singer, but would that audience buy him? Katharine is a very good singer, but she needs more road experience to find out her proper range and what works best for her. Chris is the most packagable name as he could easily carry a radio rock band without the AI name. The Chris Daughtery Band would be a big hit group. Yeah, though I think name like "The Black Goldfish" or some generic rock name would probably be better. -

Ok. Katharine started off AMAZING being more downplayed and there was one particular line which just gave me goosebumps... then she decided to be Katharine. Simon was spot-on. And now I want some Apple Pie. -

But Katharine needs to be in the semi finals! Thats the show where she will toootally slut it up in order to beat Taylor and Chris. -

Elliot is totally out-working everyone in this competition. The director of this show makes me laff with the quick cuts of the drummer and Elliot. I don't know how to package Elliot Yamin. Good fucking luck to AI if that dude ends up taking it. EDIT: ok, I still don't know how to position Elliot in the music industry, but I will say, where ever Robert Palmer was, Elliot should be there too. -

Chris and David Blaine need to have a brood off. He slept through the first 3/4s of that for the last quarter of AWESOME. -

If McPhee sucks it on the next song and Elliot bangs out another gooder, Boobs may be dunski. -

No, she did a combo of Hound dog and Shook Up which didn't work at all together. I wouldn't really recommend it... And I wanted another 3 minutes of that from Taylor. -

Standard crappy McPhee-wear where she hides part of her jean-worn bottom with a loose top. I thought it was very Elvis-The-Musical-y with the arrangement being crap. -

Yeah, Elliot fucking kicked it on that one. A combination of one of his best performances as well as Seacrest dropping the "underdog" line, could help him be the spoiler for one of the other three. Chris was about 90% of what I thought it would be. I thought he was a lil too mellow on it, though. Taylor was -50%. Elliot, as always, exceeded expectations. -

Ok, Taylor is stealing the show with this one. In the worst possible way. -
UFC 60: Hughes vs Gracie
RavishingRickRudo replied to Lord of The Curry's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
Well, Hughes is a necessary element in both BJ and St. Pierres rematches with him, however, he is like the English Channel. The story about swimming the channel isn't really about the body of water, it's about those swimming it. -
AMERICAN IDOl-SEASON 5: THE THREAD

Chris is going to slay with Suspicious Minds, but Taylor could steal the show with Jail House Rock. I can't see either guy going home if the perform those two songs as good as I think they can. "Falling in Love with You" is a trump card song, but I can see Katharine mis-playing it (though I can almost as easily see her hitting it out of the park - it's one of those songs, and McPhee is one of those performers) which means Poor Elliot is going to have to really step it up tonight and hope his streak of progressively better performances is intact and maybe then some. -
THIS is the highest ratet show on TV?
RavishingRickRudo replied to Special K's topic in Television & Film
I think CSI is getting a lil too stylized now and it sorta has taken over the show, plus they seem to be in the simpsons territory of coming up with whacky scenarios because they have no ideas left under their older format (plus the "success" of previous storylines doesn't help either). Season 4, imo, was their best season, and I'd say they had gotten progressively better each season up until 5. But there are some truly great episodes and character relationships, as well as, twists. -
UFC 60: Hughes vs Gracie
RavishingRickRudo replied to Lord of The Curry's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
Saying someone "isn't a draw at all" with no knowledge of what the shows end ticket sales are is ridiculous. What if Hughes/Gracie is in the top 5 drawing cards in UFC history? What if it's one of the biggest of the year? Both of which are very likely given the UFCs history and their current ticket prices. -
I was at a indy show the other night and there were several times where the fans "got involved" with the wrestlers and vice-versa. A wrestler came out with a water bottle and poured it on fans, spat on them, took a guys hat and threw it away. The fans spat and threw water back, in kind, obviously very angry. There were other incidents of wrestlers pushing fans as well. Chris Hero punched a guy in the face and busted up the fans nose and that fan and his friend were about to kill Hero before security got in and took the two guys out. Needless to say, it was awesome and everyone was buzzing, and lots of people from that show are acting indignant and saying "YOU DO NOT TOUCH PROFESSIONAL WRESTLERS!" and whatnot. So whaddya say? Where do you lean? Are you with the "fans are there to see the performers perform" side, or are you more along the "alls fair in love and work". Or is there a middle-ground?

In regards to pacing, building (and escalating) moves and pay-off spots, and execution of moves, I thought Albert did an expert job. I think he needs to get better strikes and maybe sell a lil bit less if he is playing the monster role.

Toroko is much quicker than Hughes, plus Royce didn't have time to train for him and he has had 5 months to train for Hughes. You want to talk about facts... -

Royce will take down Matt Hughes. Hughes can't tap him from his back, try to escape and give Royce his back. Royce will choke Hughes out. -
