    UFC 92: The Ultimate 2008

My analysis of "I would rather see Silva move up than Rampage"?? Rampage was flat footed, used little movement, still can't check a leg kick, and looked hesitant. His strategy was good (throwing straight punches, counter punching), but he still looked bad. This was the worst Nog I have ever seen fight. The plus for Mir was that he moved around a lot and threw in combinations. But Nog was not putting up much of a defense and got hit continuously with the same shot. Not because Mir is this super striker with great timing, but because he has no reflexes.

In order to rationalize what happened, I say that Frank Mir did not beat Noguiera -but rather- Fedor and Cro Cop murdered him and he has been running on fumes ever since. It's a shame that both Wandy and Nog are done, cause Rampage and Mir did *not* look that good in their performances. Mir threw the same combos throughout the fight, Nog just has no reaction time and he can't rely on his ability to take a beating any more. Rampage was just really slow and showed more energy in celebration than during the fight. Throughout the main event I was like "why doesn't Rashad just take Forrest down?" Dudes GnP looked scary. And the takedown wasn't even off of anything he went for.

Yeah, book a table and show up whenever you like. Also, eat/drink beforehand so you don't find yourself ordering a lot when you're there.

Couture vs. Lesnar, which was expected to do over a million buys, was filled with LW fights (which also were aired). They do this a lot, having a card stacked with one division, because it allows your immediate thoughts to be (wow, these two guys who won would be awesome against each other... and... wow, this division is filled with talent). My issue comes with the shitty heavyweight fights they stick on main cards.

UFC 94 - Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn II

Hughes/BJ 2 did big business, they need a rubber match since Matt is the only guy to have finished Penn, and Hughes isn't entirely out of the mix since his losses are to the #1 contender and the champ. If he beats Serra, who *is* the former WW champ, and given his legacy, it should be an easy sell. And Hughes is probably the guy, next to GSP (or Silva) that BJ wants to fight most. Florian and Alves can both wait and another impressive performance from both can only help their cause as contenders.

    UFC 92: The Ultimate 2008

I don't think Rashad will KO Forrest standing because that's not the gameplan they will use to beat Forrest. Against Chuck, the idea was clearly to throw counters and to be quicker on the draw. Forrest has established by now that he isn't the brawler he was before and is more of a stick, move, circle fighter who isn't necessarily looking for the KO. Griffin has stated in interviews and showed in the Rampage fight that he likes to use leg kicks and I see Jacksons gameplan being shooting off either the kick or just going for takedowns in general since Forrest has, self-admittedly, shit wrestling. Whether Rashad is able to control Forrest on the ground or not is another thing. The gameplan could just end up being stand, takedown, stand, takedown and rack up points for 5 rounds. Dealing with Forrests' size is an issue, especially considering how small Evans is. It's hard for me to call this fight because I don't really see how Forrest wins it. Maybe catching Evans late in the fight when he is gassed, but it's hard to say that when Evans hasn't been tapped in that way. Meanwhile, we know Forrest can get taken down, grinded out, and knocked out standing, and we know Rashad is capable of doing all that. I would love to see Nog get a knock out. He deserves it after all these years shadowboxing to and in the ring. Wandy throwing knees with the cage there could be a dangerous thing. Would rather see Silva move up than Rampage, to be honest. I am actually really looking forward to Okami vs. Lister. It would be pretty sweet to see Okami beat a dude down.

If BJ wins the title, you streamline Matt Hughes towards a title shot cause that fight does ridiculous business.

Rashad beat Chuck Liddell, who beat Jeremy Horn, who beat Forrest Griffin. FACT.

    2008 MMA Year End Review

The key thing, to me, about a severe asskicking is the fact that the guy is *aware* of the fact he is getting pwned and must live through every second of it. The psychological effects are just as important as the physical. So while Wandy rape choking Jardine is great, the dude was already on queer street and didn't last long enough to suffer.

In Andersons striking book, he talks about how he was winning the Chonan fight before getting heel hooked. Also, I am 400-0 against bouncers.

Fuck Brock Lesnar for having that K-1 fight and not earning Rook of the year. I almost wanna put Brown pushing Fabers shit-in as Beatdown of the Year.

    Majel Roddenberry dies

Yeah, ditto on the voice thing. I liked her before even knowing she was married to Roddenberry. Always created nice, awkward moments with Picard. It's a reality now-a-days to see original Trek performers kick the bucket, given the time period it was shot in. She didn't have it as bad as Doohan, but still, Leukemia sucks.

That's the Canadian Sweep guy so I doubt it. On the subject, I swear I saw a grey haired Tino in a Scotiabank ad recently. Oh shit, that was actually an imported show? And here I thought filling carts with Turkeys and Obus Forms was uniquely Canuckian.

    2008 MMA Year End Review

I'll make a premature pick cause I don't see anything on the horizon to change my mind... Fighter of the Year: ...beat Parisyan, Hughes, and Koscheck. Thiago Alves. Runners Up: Eddie Alvarez. Beating Kawajiri and Hansen are worthy of the title, plus Dida ain't no slouch, I just think the way Alves stepped up to the competition in 08 and faced guys who were some of the divisions best grapplers and kayoed two of them and beat the shit out of the other, puts him a step above. He was out of his comfort zone in those fights, against guys who would prey on his "weakness" and was able to thrive. Georges St. Pierre - Yes, Matt Serra isn't really a top WW, but GSP demolished the clear-cut number one contender in Jon Fitch for five rounds in a performance that IMO is one of the best of the year. Beating Serra was more of a moral and mental victory than anything, but he was still technically the champ and beating the champ should earn some dap in year end awards. (RRRs Fuckallyall pick for FOTYC): Demian Maia! Tapped two gingers and a rock. Such strong jiu jitsu. So strong.
