AMERICAN IDOl-SEASON 5: THE THREAD
RavishingRickRudo replied to Jericholic82's topic in Television & Film
Considering that the 2000's show should have been good and wasn't, in theory, this show -which should be bad- could be good. -

It would have been better to bring Osama in as Ric Flairs clone, genetically modified by the Cuban government to take down the symbol of democracy - the WWE.

I am intrigued. And a lil bit aroused. Hmm... maybe I should keep these thoughts to myself. -
The best comparison...
RavishingRickRudo commented on RavishingRickRudo's blog entry in I post on TSM and all I got was this lousy blog.
It's not necessarily psychology. Psychology is the match making sense, and in most cases, fans respond to that. Not all. It is not an absolute that matches have to make sense. It is, however, an absolute that matches have to get the crowd reacting/responding. Andres work in that match is actually very good. Limited, yes, but watch how many ways he works over Hogan. It's amazing how Andre used a bunch of normally weak moves (headbuts, bearhugs, clubs, chops), but given the pacing, given his size, given the crowds willingness to eat it up, it came off so much better than it should have. To make up for Andres lack of mobility between spots, Hogan over-sells and shifts attention off slow-Andre and onto himself. The match is not perfect, but there are features that normally don't get picked up on. -
Maybe Logan is not Evil Leader, maybe he just hired Henderson to take out Palmer and sorta blindly did so. Henderson looked to frame Bauer* and worked that into the Palmer hit. Henderson hired Nathanson (who had contact with Walt Cummings, who both were involved in setting up Palmers death and both helped the terrorists get the nerve gas in hopes of releasing the gas on them (the terrorists), but Henderson had other plans) and Collette (who gave the terrorists schematics to CTU) as intermediaries and had his own agenda with the nerve gas (taking out CTU). The Terrorists did the work for Henderson in exchange for being able to use the rest of the gas on civilians. Henderson perhaps thought he, along with the Presidents help, could get back into a severely damaged CTU by discrediting Jack Bauer (in death) and thus hurting Jacks claim on Henderson.

Yeah, it's not like Shawn to exploit his religion so blatently. I am disappointed.

Hasn't that been the defense of HHH for YEARS now. "There's no other heels that can do it". Yeah, well, there's a reason for that. Plus they HAD a hot heel in Edge, which clearly wasn't in their plans, but they bumped him in favour of, duh duh duh...

His downfall came in not placing the blame on the right people. Most of the people who get fired this season are fired because who they don't take to the board room. Trump this season is like "who came up with that idea, it's their fault, if you can't see that, you're gone". And the blonde on the winning team is so fucking annoying.

Wow. I had to come online just to say HOLY SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT BALLS that was awesome. I was hoping for the whole episode for it not to be the VP and for it to be the Prez and I celebrated like a motherfucker when it was (credit goes to Fook for planting that twisted thought into all of our heads, and to Ripper for being a lil more obscure and never the less accurate). God damn. Oh and... Can someone piece this together? I'd try, but I like my brain in the non-splattered-against-the-wall variety. I can easily see this being President Palmer looking for Approval Ratings for having saved the day, but it doesn't all work. How did they know Jack was still alive? The Russian President dying on US soil after meeting with the Prez wouldn't improve approval ratings AT ALL. There has to be something more.

Listening to Rey on the HOF show, I thought to myself "I have heard this before". Not in words, but in tone. And then it struck me. "Every rose... has its thorn... just like every night... has it's dawn" "Just like every cowboy, sings his sad, sad song..." Straight out of Bill and Teds Bogus Journey. Uncanny in delivery.

"In Jan 2000, Eddie embarked on his greatest journey when he entered World Wrestling Entertainment" Oh man.

Watching the HOF deal, I laufed when the announcer -during the Mene Gene package- called the WWE a "cross-cultural phenomenon". I am not denying that the WWE has appealed to different cultures, but.... jesus christ, that sounds so pretentious and ridiculous, and indicative of how Vince is trying to shape his image. And it's funny because Vince is kinda like the Christian/Conservative/Republicans, in trying to have it both ways, in regards to presenting himself as the underdog but really isn't. Vince is the underdog who is oppressed by big media while being the mega-giant-god of sports entertainment at the same time. And he uses both sides so conveniently. And people actually buy it too, which is the worst thing about it.

AWESOME. Paragon BRANGS THA GOODZ.

If you want to give HHH credit, you give him credit for taking a break in 2005 and coming back with less screen time than he normally does (in HHH-land, that means "featured match, promo time, lengthy matches with gimmicks, announcers sucking you off... only less actual time on screen"... which is still an improvement and he deserves credit for recognizing that). But this? No way. HHH is still in the thick of it, he's on TV a ton, and tonight he should have let Edge spear him after the match and let Edge be the one leaving the ring at the end. Edge was a total goof in that match and that's not a good sign of things to come (though, the idea of putting Edge in this feud is a good one).

Wrestlemania 23 at Ford Field Detroit
RavishingRickRudo replied to converge241's topic in The WWE Folder
It could... As proven in the past, one cannot use traditional logic -or any sort of prognosticatory methods- to predict what the WWE will do or what would make sense to them at any given time. However, even on the craziest of crazy days for Vince McMahon, putting the title on either one is unlikely. They didn't want to put the title on Hogan in 2002 because they clearly had plans for a long HHH reign, but they felt they had to because of the overwhelming reaction. Hogan won't get a reaction like that again, so I can't see Vince doing it. But then I will, again, reference the above paragraph. -

Hogan with the title was proven to be a failure - the fans like the novelty of marking out for Hogan, but novelty title reigns don't draw interest. Then there is the constant schedule which Hogan can't work. Austin is even more damaged goods than Hogan, so there goes that. Though, seeing Hogan come down with the Eagle belt and seeing Austin either come down with the big round one or the smoking skull belt would be a nice touch. -
HHH gets credit for Batista. That's it. The Cena thing isn't played out so you can't judge it either way, but HHH and his job did no favours to Benoit-as-champ and there is no way he deserves reprieve, let alone praise, for that. So before you go beating HHH off for "taking one for the team" when he was plastered all over RAW tonight and didn't lose a single thing from that "loss", consider his history. At best, if you only consider 2 WM's and not the long line of burials and meaningless jobs HHH has done in the past, Cena has a 50/50 shot at not suffering a steep drop down the card after he loses the belt. Seriously Downhome, we've been posting here for years, you don't learn a single fucking thing do you? God, you're in Coffey territory here.

If you can put the blame on 1 person for the decline of the WWE...
RavishingRickRudo replied to Lt. Al Giardello's topic in The WWE Folder
Here's the thing with Vince and the "final say" thing. If you accept that, if you accept the bad, then you have to accept the good. You have to accept that Vince McMahon gets the credit for the booms in the 80s and 90s. Not Austin. Not Hogan. Vince gets it because Vince "ok'd " it. I don't accept that. Vince certainly gets some of the blame. But. If you took Vince out of the equation, the WWE wouldn't really get better, because Steph would still be in her position, the writing would still suck, and it's not like she's going to get fired any time soon. Worse, there's the possibility that she runs the whole company and things would get even WORSE. Vince at least was successful. He has been in the same position for over 20 years and the company was successful at points in those 20 years. Even when it looked like he was out of his gourd in the mid-90s pushing clowns and farmers and monks, the company was still able to be successful under him. Vince at least has some perspective in regards to making money, though it is skewed and perverted. Steph is just awful. Ok, blame Vince for putting her there in the first place, but she's been there for over 5 years now. FIVE YEARS. And she hasn't gotten better. SHE HASN'T GOTTEN BETTER IN FIVE YEARS. The writing has been pure SHIT and that is HER responsibility in the company. The promos SUCK. That's not Vince okaying it, that's Steph. Steph could bring Vince something BETTER to ok. She hasn't. She isn't. There was a distinct drop off in quality of television when Kreski left and Steph came in. That is not a coincidence. Vince was there for both and the shows were better when there was someone who had an idea about putting together a wrestling show. Steph thinks wrestling should be cute and campy and that's what we've been getting for the past few years. It sucks. It really fucking sucks. It's her fault, she gets the blame. To put it on Vince is ignoring the actual problem in the company - and that's writing. That's creative. That's her fault. -

I would give serious thought to driving down to Detroit and watching Hogan/Austin live. They could fill the place easily, just off their proximity to Canada. I wonder if Hogan pinning Austin, but Austin getting a stunner at the end would be enough for both guys? I could see part of the crowd booing Hogan winning more than I could see them booing Austin. Hogan has detractors, while Austin tends to have a higher fan/non-fan ratio. But then again, it *is* close to Canada. -
The Jamal thing is ridiculous. It's possible to be Samoan or from the south pacific and not be a wild savage beast. Mark Hunt came down to the ring in traditional garb and music, it got across his ethnicity and culture, and it differentiates him from other fighters without having to play to the LCD. The WWE clearly doesn't get this. If anyone hasn't said it yet, this is what they would have done to Samoa Joe, guaranteed.

They could do a thing where Hogan/Austin team, and where you think Austin is going to turn on Hogan, Hogan turns on Austin.
