  1. The movie theatre I went to - which at two previous PPVs (RR and SurSer) was packed - had about 70% capacity. And they used the _smaller_ screen/room for it.
  2. I feel bad. I feel very, very bad. I finished the entire season last night. That's about a 36 hour timespan from the time of purchase to the time of completion. ...and sweet jesus if Rorys speech at the end didn't have me misty.
  3. Of course the internet audience reacted well to the ECW PPV. They announced the card online and ECW had lots of net-savvy fans. That it had lots of buys on this board and others doesn't really account for the majority of WWE fans. Say 80 people from this board bought it, and 80 people from 99 other boards bought it. That's still only 8000 people and less than 3% of the buyrate. I think net opinion and response is important because we're all fans with legitimate thoughts on the product, but I wouldn't exactly correlate the amount of people who bought it here with the norm. Which is why I felt Meltzer saying "This oen is a hit" after the "huge" feedback he received was a bit silly.
  4. It'll probably be around $10.00 +/- $2 for a long time. The McMahons will just buy back the stock to inflate the price if it gets lower.
  5. And that Steph hates Heyman and she's still director of creative, so there is no way Heyman will ever be a significant influence on the shows for an extended period of time (sure, he'll threaten to leave and they'll pay him to come back and use him for a month or two and then find some reason to put him back in his "advisory" position, but in the long run it won't make a lick of difference.) Nothing will change in the WWE unless some outside force gets them to change. So pray for Steph and HHH to become christians and leave the business or for a plane crash with both of them on it, because time won't solve anything - it hasn't for the past 5 years and it won't for the next 5.
  6. I like how you try to contradict anything I say, no matter how useless the reply is. I like the attention. However, the key words in what he said were "it makes me think", as if it is something that is in his mind rather than being a reality. The next sentence (same paragraph) had the words "it think" following it, therefore the thoughts are connected. "My dog barks a lot" isn't analogous, because what you said is a fact while his is an impression. What I said was a fact. Why is it annoying, anyways? You watch shit; you willingly watch shit. They knowingly put out shit because you will willingly watch it. They appeal to the lowest common denominator. They are the worst television show on today. There are no shows on TV that have worse writing and acting than WWE RAW and Smackdown. So what sort of person watches the worst show on television? A stupid person, of course. And that's why they never get big money for advertisements - who wants to invest money appealing to stupid people? And who would want to associate themselves with a show that feeds stupid people shit? Especially car companies? I imagine Wrestling Fans must be on the bottom of the foodchain when it comes to public image. Even Star Wars fans, with their lightsabers and all, get more respect from advertisers than wrestling fans. And really, as someone who has been around wrestling fans for an extended period of time, I have to agree 100%. LOTC says being around wrestling fans makes him feel smarter, but me? I feel dumber. But I am not annoyed one bit because that's the reality of the situation and I chose to be around them and I can choose not to in the future.
  7. As long as Steph is in charge, there really won't be any difference 'cept the "comedy" won't be as "funny". Vince needs someone to challenge him and give him a nice big dose of reality and as long as she is there everything will get sugarcoated.
  8. It has to be a draw. I mean, clearly, Bruce Lee would win, but Kirk just can't lose a fight so there is no other way to score it. It's a paradox, really. Bruce Lee Must Win. Captain Kirk Can't Lose. Indiana Jones vs. John McLane Now THAT'S a fight.
  9. It's rather unfair to use a regular crewman from the Federation against a Jedi. It would be better to use a regular character from Star Wars like Han Solo, it would be a closer fight. As is, the Jedi could easily get the phaser out of the crewmans hand using the force and then whip out a lightsaber and finish the fight within seconds. The fight simply is not fair. Just as saying "Who would win, Q or Yoda?" would be unfair. Kes, from Voyager, perhaps would be a fairer fight since she had telepathic and telekenetic abilities. Maybe even Odo. But to answer your scenario, the Jedi wins. ... I feel dirty.
  10. It is, and you are. So it's not annoying, it's true. Very, very true.
  11. They released the card on the internet but never promoted it on tv where the vast majority of their audience would find it. Television promotion centred on "ECW Stars" like Sandman, Dreamer, Sabu and the Dudleys and the storyline that went into the show was the "WWE invading the ECW PPV". The majority of WWE fans probably never knew the card, which is vital when making a PPV purchase, and also the vast majority of the WWE audience doesn't know who Sabu or Sandman is so the nostalgic appeal wouldn't work for them. Remember, the ECW DVD didn't sell a million copies - it actually sold LESS than this PPV (and ECW ppvs sold MUCH LESS than the DVDs), therefore the regular audience for the PPV would be naturally small. I think it would be safe to say that between 100,000-150,000 people bought it for the ECW name and 120,000-170,000 bought it because it was a WWE PPV and they always buy WWE PPVs. The build for it sucked, plain and simple. When you don't release an actual card, then people have to go into the show blind - most people don't like doing that. There are only two shows for the WWE that get bought on name recognition, where you don't even have to say who is wrestling and you'll get at least 300,000 buys, and that is Wrestlemania and the Royal Rumble.
  12. The WWE offered stock options to its employees as a pseudo-retirement fund (IIRC) with the original IPO, most of the actual shareholders are VP's and BODs.
  13. Hubris?!?! You've GOT to be shitting me.
  14. The thing is, I don't see it as a very "girly" show. Lots of the stuff they go through are universal, and they're kinda anti-girly in a lot of ways or at least very tongue-in-cheek about it. It's not so much "boy problems" as it is "relationship problems", or "mother/father/daughter issues" as it is "parent/child issues". To be honest, I don't find many female characters on television to be very amusing, but those two I find especially enjoyable. You don't really find, quick witted and quirky women on television that have a certain emotional depth to them.
  15. The PPV had no matches announced.
  16. How do I put this... ... Alexis Bledel has a nice tush. Which is really surprising considering the rest of her frame, but not so surprising when you consider that she's spanish.
  17. Well, it depends. With the right person leading, most people can be good on commentary because they will be prompted to say something (through a question) rather than volunteering information. Ah, might as well do it now... Alexis Bledel confuses me. Not just the fact that she's latina, which made my brain bleed, but that she's not really hot so much as she is cute. There's something odd about her and I can't quite put my finger on it. She has to have the most amusing facial expressions on television and I'm not sure if it's "acting" or if it's just her natural delivery. She also delivers some killer lines, like the aforementioned "poor bunny" because her voice is so cutish and makes a lot of funny things sound hilarious. Is that her actual voice? Season 3 had a noticable change in her, but I don't know what it is. She became 30% skankier, and I don't know if she just grew or wore more make up but she looks different. And she's wearing lots of dresses now. No complaints there.
  18. They're in SEASON FIVE now??! I thought I was only going to be a season behind. But they *just* released Season 3 on DVD, didn't they?? The tag works, but it's yellow instead of clear now. [spoilex][/spoilex] and replace the x with r.
  19. They're just mad because the gays made it gay to be a cowboy.
  20. And you don't have to worry about spoilers here, unless they are so totally major and will ruin everything. I'm the kinda guy who reads the end of books before I begin, so it's not a big deal. I almost have to say my favourite character is Lorelai. Ignoring the fact that Lauren Graham is absolutely stunning, she's such a fun and warm character who goes through a million emotions per show. But if I were to ignore the fact that Graham is absolutely stunning, then Luke would rule all. Or Kirk.
  21. Lane and her mother bother me. But that's about it. Dean I am rather neutral about. Jess... I was surprised at how much I enjoyed his character, because I wasn't expecting to.
  22. Oh man, when Kirk asked Lorelai out, just before he did it I was thinking "wouldn't it be hilarious if it turned out that Kirk loved Lorelai right in the midst of all her guy troubles?" and guess what? IT WAS! KIRK~! And how did they manage to make SALLY STRUTHERS into a good character?! "It's a SEXY Squash!"
  23. GAH! The DVD's need more extra features! COMMENTARY!!!! Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel on commentary would be soooo good. KIRK! on commentary, in or out of character, would be worth the price of the set alone. LUKE! on commentary... I'm getting far too excited... The great thing about the DVD's (next to my ability to watch 3 episodes in a row which TV does not afford) is that it is easier to watch the arcs unfold. Which is one thing that really surprised me about the show - IT HAS ARCS! Really fucking big arcs too that span the whole season. It's not as woven together or as prominent as, say, The Shield is but it's certainly still there and is just as catchy.
  24. The reruns on YTV and W got me hooked on it. I heard good things about it, mostly from Herc over at AICN, and I slowly got adjusted to it*. For me, it's a matter of finding the right episodes and watching it all the way through to the end credits. I found those episodes**, did some research (they were all in Season 2) and since I prefer watching shows on DVD than on TV, I stopped watching the TV shows and just bought the DVD's (fucking Best Buy raised the price 5 dollars between the time I first checked out the price to the time I made the purchase). * It takes some adjusting to. The dialogue, in particular. The first thing I noticed about the show was that nobody talks like that in real life, but once you get used to it, the dialogue becomes part of the charm. And they reference it in the show, which makes it ok (the scene where Dean talks to Max about the Girls' bits - "don't laugh, play along in character" ). **The episode where they have termites and the episode where Lukes uncle died in particular got me hooked.
