    Tropic Thunder

Kinda disappointed in this flick. The concept was great, but it just fell flat too many times. It's never a good sign when the best part of the movie happens in the first 10 minutes. 5/10
  2. I respect both of them as fighters, but since both men's fan bases send the douche bag meter off the charts, I tend to find myself rooting against them. I'll probably wind up rooting for GSP, so I can say I picked the fight correctly.

UFC 87 - Seek and Destroy

Lesnar did more than punch him once and lay on him. Go ask Herring's face if it only got punched once. It looked like 5 day old ground beef after the 3rd round. He continued to punch the head and face as well as knee the fuck out of the body while dominating him on the ground. Sure, he should have ended it early with a RNC, but it was his 3rd fight, facing a guy that had over 40. I'll cut him slack for sticking with what he was comfortable with.

    Freaks & Geeks

Caught the whole series on dvd a couple of months ago (netflix is a beautiful thing). A real shame that it wasn't given more time to find it's audience. It could have been a real hit and Martin Starr would have been a breakout star. He was fantastic. My fav episodes involved him. The eps where he wanted to play shortstop and his mom started dating the gym coach come immediately to mind.

Herring came out to the theme to The Good the Bad and the Ugly.

I'm just saying that he is at his best at 155. The way the sport has evolved, the more he strays from that weight at this point in his career the more problems he will have. The last fight he won out of the 155 weight division was against Renzo in 2005. The Machida fight took place 2 years into Lyoto's MMA career and he beat BJ in a unanimous decision (this was an open weight match and I don't remember what Penn weighed for this fight). I just don't think Penn moving up to 170 is going to give this present day GSP much of a fight.

I must be one of the few folks not completely excited about GSP/Penn II. GSP beat him by split decision 2 yrs ago and he's an exponentially better fighter now. An in his prime GSP fighting a bloated BJ spells trouble for Penn in rounds 4 and 5. Anyways, Penn still needs to clear out his weight class. I don't know why they haven't gone in the direction of having GSP go up to 185 and fight Anderson Silva. Both men have dominated their weight class and are looking for a challenge. That's the big money fight.

UFC 87 - Seek and Destroy

The biggest improvement for Brock in this fight was his patience when striking. He was WAY calmer this time around when he dropped his opponent. He is still seriously green though (Herring was pretty much begging him to take his back and choke him out), but his size, speed, power, and wrestling ability will make him a force.

    Punisher: War Zone

I'll admit it. I've got a bit of a man crush for ol' Titus Pullo. Kinda feel bad for Dominic West. He's playing a scar-ridden comic book villain the same year as Ledger's Joker.

    Weekend Box Office Report

Agreed. I love the Freaks and Geeks reunion thing going on, but this just doesn't look very funny to me. A little pot humor goes a loooonng way with me.

    What's on your Netflix queue?

Just sent back Munich and The Signal. Waiting for Enchanted and Red Dragon.

    Weekend Box Office Report

So, it held off the Mummy. Word of mouth will kill that film next week. Does The Dark Knight hold of Pineapple Express next weekend?

It depends on what the injuries were and their severity as to whether they can link them to the cause of the miscarriage. Regardless, that's a horrible development.

    The Dark Knight

I think I'm one of the few folks that liked Burton's Planet of the Apes. I thought Tim Roth gave an incredible performance.

    The Emmy Nominations

They had one last chance to make amends for the previous snubs of The Wire and they fucked it up. Seriously, how could they have been so fervently on The Sopranos' nuts for all those years, but not recognize The Wire? I just don't get it.

    Hellboy II: The Golden Army

HB2 was on about the same level of the first one. Del Toro digs deeper into his bag of "creatures" in this one, but as a movie on the whole, it rates the same. 7/10.

    UFC 86: Jackson vs Griffin

I had it as a draw with Forrest winning the 2nd 10-8 and the 5th. Every round but the 2nd could have gone either way depending on how you viewed things. Tough break for Rampage losing the title by decision in such a close fight.

    George Carlin dead

An absolute genius with words. With Pryor and Carlin gone, Cosby is the last one left from the Triumvirate of Comedy that showed that stand-up could be an art form.

    TUF VII: Middleweights

The Sanchez/Luigi fight was shaping up to be a good one until Luigi seemed to tweak his knee early in the 2nd round. He had trouble stabilizing himself a few times after he would get hit and Sanchez would then take advantage. It was awesome seeing Amir armbar CB again. You gotta love that kid.

Shamrock v. Le is on the top of my list, with Torres v. Maeda 2nd.

and the new Incredible Hulk is....

Ok, I have a different opinion. The Ang Lee film was way better. I understand why the 2003 film gets so much vitriol, its sort of stuck in a no-man's land: too art-house to be liked by the mainstream, too mainstream to be liked by the art house. But this 2008 film seems to be a mainstream over-reaction to the first film. The biggest flaw in this film is the General Ross character. William Hurt's portrayal couldn't be more one dimensional as the thinly veiled metaphor for the war hungry american military machine. Elliott's Gen. Ross in 2003 had way more resonance. It's said that the best villain is the one that thinks he is doing the right thing. Elliott's Gen. Ross definitely thinks he's doing the right thing by protecting his country and daughter by pursuing the Hulk the way he did. Hurt's General Ross is shown as a lying, uncaring, war monger. I was also terribly disappointed by Edward Norton's performance. He did no better than Bana's in 2003. I love Norton's work, but his performance in this movie is very ordinary. The CGI was awful! The Hulk looked like a frickin action figure. Seriously, the final fight between Abomination and Hulk looks like two action figures going at it. It really took away from my enjoyment of the scene. The desert scene CGI in the 2003 movie blows away anything in this movie. This 2008 Hulk is a by the numbers comic book movie. I expected more from a movie with Norton and Roth in it. (Although Roth's performance was pretty good, IMO.) 2003 version: 7/10 2008 version: 5/10

    WEC: Faber vs. Pulver

Great to see this fight get hyped as well as it has been. If I had to make prediction, I'd say Faber by sub in the 2nd. And is is true, that WEC's TV presentation is better than UFC's. Guess we have the Vs. folks to thank for that.

    Behind The Match:Inaugural edition

I hadn't seen this match until now. His sell of the big boot was freakin' hilarious. Was the back story of this match that it was supposed to be a 2 match feud, w/ each winning 1 but Hogan cut it to 1 because of his knee injury?

Real happy to see Stann beat Marshall. Another well put together, slickly produced WEC show. The HD presentation is awesome. Really looking forward to Jens v. Faber. Caught an episode of Iron Rings tonight. What a fucking disgrace. When I heard BET was doing a MMA show, I actually had an open mind about it. I think it's important for the sport appeal to a wider demo, but this show is disrespectful to the sport and its fighters. Douchebag rappers acting like they are tougher than the fighters. Coaches mocking fighters for warming up before a fight because "you don't have time to warm up when you in streets". Mayweather and posse laughing at someone getting knocked out. Add in the not so subtle racism, and you have one shitty show. Fuck Iron Rings.

    John Adams

Nothing about it is bad, but the first two hours seemed like a by the numbers history lesson. Im a huge fan of Giamatti, so I'll stick with it
