For the record, I am not offended by Czech's remarks. He's just one in a long line of people that have questioned Catholic rituals that I myself have called into question from time to time. I think it's fair game to question people's religion, especially if they make it public knowledge as I did.
I don't go to church anymore since I was confirmed. I choose not to participate in the institution of the church, but that doesn't mean that I don't follow the faith. I don't participate in Lent because I am afraid I'll have to atone for my sins if I don't give up chocolate. I participate because my faith is important to me, and it's a small reminder of the greater concept of sacrifice, something I hold as important in my own personal life.
It's a problem when anybody implies they know anything about why a person believes a certain way, unless they know that individual on a personal level.
