I'm doing a 2005 Year in Review
Lord of The Curry replied to RavishingRickRudo's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
Bonnar/Griffin in itself should be up there as it did more for MMA in terms of gaining fans in one fight then half the topics listed up there have. -
Sylvia/Telligmen makes sense because of Tim's upcoming fight. Putting Arlovski/Sylvia is kind of a step back.

Didn't purchase anything but got UFC 49 and 52 for X-Mas. Score.

Flair vs Booker? GAH~!

Agreed, but when you look at the way GSP dominated Trigg and Sherk I think that puts the Mayhem victory in a different perspective. -
I laughed at your hot sister becaue I like eggs.

I'm still not convinced. The dude fucked up in a huge, huge way. The first ever live televised MMA event on cable TV. The main event. And he blows it. Jason Miller did more in defeat this year then Marquadt and Salaverry combined and he hasn't been brought back which is fucked. Of course, the whole robbery charge thing won't help his causes but once he's done with ROTR they should give him another chance. -

Ya know, people would be quick to point out that Jordan/Gonzaga from UFC 56 was the worst fight of the year but at least that fight had a finish. Marquadt/Salaverry was a shitty stall-fest of a fight. What has he done since then to warrant a return? -

Why in Gods name is the UFC bringing Nathan Marquadt back? -
When a band gets by on doing the exact same shit they did 10 years ago but recieve 3 times the amount or praise I'd call that overrating them.

I'll make it a NY's resolution to try and impress banky more.

I loves me some Pitbull but I'll be first in line to challenge whether or not he's done anything worthy of being considered for FOTY.

Haven't seen much talk of this one so far which is a shame, because it's one of the best to come along since.......well........Lost, I guess. Which isn't long but doesn't at all change the fact that this is a first-rate piece of television. A Sleeper Cell, for the uninformed is a terrorist cell that remains largely inactive, aside from one specific task which they carry out on orders. This show follows the lives of 5 Islamic Soldiers involved in their own version of a Holy War. The fact that only one of the them is from the Middle East is one of the more captivating points of the show, the leader of the cell Farik, played by Oded Fehrer of The Mummy fame. The rest are made up of a blonde-haired American guy born in California named Tommy, a former French White Supremacist who found Islam and a Serbian Muslim who saw his family murdered by Catholics. The final member is an Undercover FBI Agent named Darwyn Al-Syeed, a black American who was born and raised Muslim. The performances here are incredible. I wouldn't be hasty and say the best on TV right now but Oded Fehrer and Michael Ealy, who plays Darwyn are both excellent. The stories and point of views are always compelling and fresh because of the backgrounds of all the different members. They all have a core purpose and following but very different opinions and ways. I'm hopefully not the only one watching this. For Canadians who have The Movie Network the first 5 episodes are currently available through the On Demand Free Channel. Yanks can catch it on Showtime. Check it.

Where can I download The Shield season 4?
Lord of The Curry replied to Lt. Al Giardello's topic in Television & Film
He appears again. Without ruining the entire plot of Season 3, that's all you need to know. JasonX- That makes sense but I always got the sneaking suspicion that it was Claudette who did it in light of the Armadillo stabbing. -
The problem is, aside from Coture/Liddell there's not a single match that could be considered a selling point for the show. At least @ 52 they had Hughes/Trigg for the WW Title as well.

Hughes explains the difference between an air choke and blood choke. Fun AND educational. -
Your "Poor Shelton" of the day is brought to you by Kraft Foods Inc. On a show where all of the faces went over (I don't count the womens match) there was no reason for young Shelton to lose. But he did. Poor Shelton. Mmmmmm

Forrest- Love him. Probably, next to Rich Franklin, the coolest guy in the UFC. Looks very humble and approachable and I enjoy his unique brand of self-deprecating humour. Tough as fuck and will always go until he's got nothing left. I, like many, are going to be fans of his for a long time because of the Bonnar fight and I will be rooting for him come April when he take on Tito. Has shown to be solid on his feet and not incompetent on the ground which he'll need if he's got Tito on top. This is a big step for him because he's going from facing two relative unknowns to one of the biggest LHW fighters of all time. Bonnar- Same as Forrest cept I enjoy Bonnars fights more because he's shown me more. Anybody that goes for a spinning roundhouse earns my love. I remember seeing Bonnar talk about how he looked like a guy that people thought they could beat up and how it resulted in him having to take anger management classes and it made me realize in a weird way that MMA can be important for this reason. This was a guy who wasn't finding a healthy outlet for his agression and now he is. I'm stoked on him vs Irvin. Swick- SWIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICK. Can't say too much but what I can say is that he's hilarious and there needs to be some kind of sitcom involving him and Dana White premiering on the WB soon. Oh, and he's got quick hands. Chris Leben- I'm still waiting to be impressed, personally. An Iron Chin rep will only take you so far but I'm glad he's shown that he can get it done on the ground. Would enjoy him not hugging people when they get in close on him ala Cote and Koscheck. A lot of people say he's matured greatly since TUF I and if that's true I respect him for it because I damn sure laughed my ass off when Southworth dropped the FB bomb on him and felt he deserved it 100%. Nate Quarry- His punches are thrown like he's a Rock 'em Sock 'em robot. I had really no issues with him until he referred to Canada as "America's pissing ground", then I was more then happy to see Franklin knock him the fuck out. Still, solid hands and (pissing comments aside) he comes off as a pretty likeable guy. Watch the crowds reaction to his victory over Shonie Carter @ UFC 53, this is a guy people clearly wanted to see win and were happy for him when he did. Josh Kocheck- Loads of potential. Very strong, fast and a great wrestler. Good future so long as he doesn't make rookie mistakes like shooting in for the umpteenth time in a fight. I'm afraid that if he loses again he'll be all but done but there's always the possibility of a Leben rematch and he holds a victory over Luke Cummo so there's that too. Diego- Rudo forgot to put him on the list, not sure why. Personally I've already stated that he gets on my nerves but I really like watching him fight. He was my MW pick to take it all the minute I saw him absolutely dominate Karalexis in TUF I and his bout with Koscheck is probably in the Top Five TUF Fights they've had so far. Good wrestler, great submissions, always looking to finish. He'll need to get by a WW Gatekeeper before he really gets thrown into the mix but I'm confident he can get the job done. Ken-Flo aka The Lazy Samurai- I need more before I can truly state him love but I do like what I've seen so far. Kenny/Cope was kind of a letdown, despite the wicked-awesome finish to the first round because it was two Muay-Thai practicioners who really didn't thrown any kicks of knees. Still, if the LW Division gets a second chance I think he could shine.
