Is Joe awake? Surely someone else called for the brush back pitch.
-
That was an ATROCIOUS attempt at giving himself up by Izturis. It's a fucking squeeze douchebag. You're not trying to take a pitch in that spot.
-
Fasano is a black hole in the lineup. What good is a defensive catcher if he's an automatic out/rally killer?
-
Stud FA pitchers won't go to Houston when they see Clemens give up 1 or 2 ER per 6 innings in more or less every start he makes and end up with as many no decisions as wins because the Asstros have no offense.
-
But Abreu's not clutch It doesn't matter though since Dotel's gonna get the K here and a grounder to Jeter to take this to the 10th. EDIT: Or you guys can get squeezed and lose on a sac fly that shouldn't have been.
-
Mr. Kennedy should easily win this with a sac fly to anyone in the outfield but Melky.

I just got back from Shea. It was a fun game, even without the desired outcome. The MVP race keeps heating up at Shea with Howard, Pujols & Beltran all going nuts this week.

Reds lead 6-3 Top 9 now. I want the Cards out of the postseason if they're gonna play with fire like this. Even though the Mets just swept 'em, I'd rather not have to beat Pujols in the NLDS.

Ultimate Fighter Season 4 the thread...
naiwf replied to Lt. Al Giardello's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
Because he's going to need lots of stitches to close that cut, and one shot to that wound will open him up even worse in his next fight. I don't know if Dana and co. want a guy advancing to the finals and one step away from a title shot because they hit an already injured Dewees with a shot on a gash and made him bleed worse than he did tonight. -

I think this will end up being a "double elimination" fight, Dewees wins the fight, but can't continue in the tournament. -

Is this kid related to Ric Flair? -
This Dodgers/Padres highlight on SC is a comedy of errors. MLB umps are collectively the drizzling shits.

The difference is . . . when Schmidt won in '86, he led the league in Slugging, OPS, HR & RBI as well as XBH. Glenn Davis, Gary Carter & Keith Hernandez didn't really match those stats. Plus he's Mike Schmidt. when Dawson won his in '87 he had 49 HR & 137 RBI. He beat out Ozzie Smith who had no power numbers to speak of. Game, set, match to the guy with the gaudy stats. when Ripken won in '91 he beat out Cecil Fielder who didn't put up that much more in the HR/RBI dept. and ended up only hitting .261. Cal actually outslugged Fielder, and also had 210 hits, 99 runs and a .323 BA. If anything Howard is having a similar year to Frank Thomas who finished 3rd in his 2nd year, and first full one in the bigs. A-Rod '03 didn't deserve his, but that seems to be a running thing with Alexander. Delgado and/or Posada should have finished ahead of him that year. The point is that Howard's numbers don't dwarf Beltran's or Pujols', and his team is going to finish waaaaaaaaaaay back in the division. I don't think there's any precedent for him specifically to win, especially when Ortiz didn't get it last year with a better case.

Skies of Arcadia for the Dreamcast. Space Pirates + RPG + ship to ship battles = awesomeness.

There's no way he beats Beltran or Pujols just because the Phils make the WC. Finishing 10-18 games behind the Mets will only make it easier for Beltran to finish 1st/2nd with Howard looking like he's no better than # 3 right now. Mike Schmidt won the MVP award in 1986 when the Phillies finished about 20 games behind the Mets. Ripken won it in 1991, Dawson in 1987, Arod in 2003. So 4 guys out of 40 since 1986 won MVP's on shitty teams. What an awesome way to prove that Howard's gonna get it this year.

Sure, but Pujols missed some time with that abdominal injury. I guess there isn't a cut and dry case for either player, but I'd still give my vote to Pujols. I agree with you. I just referenced Beltran's injury because everyone remembers that Albert was out for a while. All things considered had neither guy been injured, Howard likely wouldn't lead the league in HR or RBI. I think Albert is easily the superior player, I just think it would be awesome to see Carlos win the MVP after his miserable inaugural season in NY.

Isn't there a separate award for the best hitter? If the Cards miss the postseason with the best individual talent in MLB, I think there's no way he beats Beltran out for the same reason Howard can't win it either. Remember that Beltran also missed a bunch of time early this season and despite Pujols' insane start he's only 2 HR and 2 RBI better than Beltran right now. If A-Rod got his last year for defense and winning the division, I'd say Beltran deserves it for superior defense and leading his team to the best record in the league.
-
Beltran is more deserving of the MVP than Pujols right now. The Cards might not even make the playoffs at this rate, and the Mets can lock up the division in a few weeks.
-
No. You're acting like the Astros were ever IN the race
-
As a Mets fan the last thing we want is for the Cards to end up winning the WC, and Pujols to potentially win that series by himself, so how does a split sound?
-
Now I'm pissed I didn't go to that game tonight, but seeing Pujols go off only to have Los Dos Carlos' take it back was awesome, even if it was from the comfort of my living room.
