You don't fire Flip because of the outcome of the season, you fire Flip because of the result of his coaching, ie they don't play lock down defense anymore, AND he turned the Pistons into a jump shooting team. The Pistons! Next year won't be any better because the core players already don't respect him. It's Larry Brown all over again.

Mets/Giants about to start about 3 hours later than scheduled. Winn doubles already.

Arrogance. I think the fact that the majority of great tennis players now speak "broken English" or don't speak English at all is what prevents them from focusing on the loser Americans. Honestly, I didn't care that Yao Ming needed a translator when he came to the NBA, so what difference would it make if Nadal needed one when he first started on tour? It's not like these guys cut interviews in the midst of play anyway so who cares if we can hear Roddick curse in English, but other top ten players can do it in multiple languages? It just pisses me off because I can't get TTC here and it sucks that I can only "watch" tennis on live scoreboards, 5 or 6 hour delayed coverage (or get up at 5 AM to watch a match live) or for 2 hours per day at the very end of big time tournaments on ESPN.

Memorization isn't really an accurate way to determine one's intelligence. Sure, someone with a photographic memory will do better on tests, but then again most exams in fields other than math and science isn't anything besides a memory exercise. If you gave me a week to study a bunch of chapters in a field that is nothing but dates and places or names I've never seen before like something related to history, or art, or music etc, I'm sure I could memorize it and do very well on a multiple choice exam. Now if I needed to learn something that required heavy calculations, I'd clearly need more time to get ready. On one test I'd get an A or a B, on the other I'd be lucky to get a D. It doesn't make me more or less intelligent, I can just "cheat" my way through a test where all I have to do is memorize facts and figures without actually knowing what they might mean. Spelling at that level is nothing but practicing obscure words in the dictionary ad nauseum and memorizing the correct spelling. I won multiple grade level spelling bees at my old school, so much so that after I won the 6th grade one when I was in 3rd grade, I was eventually "disqualified" from them so other kids could eventually win. I had no desire to try out for the Scripps Nat'l one though because I didn't want to devote years of my life to learning how to spell just about every possible word in the dictionary, even though I probably could have made a real push to do it over the 5 years between 3rd and 8th grade. As someone else said, an autistic kid could do exceedingly well at a spelling bee, but can struggle with basic things that require little, if any actual intelligence.

Nomar and Tim Thomas clearly made deals with the devil at roughly the same time. I'd love to see Flash give up a 3 run GW HR right about now.
-
Yeah, you guys fucked up tonight. It was 5-3 LA when I last checked the score, now it's 8-6 Phillies. How DO you walk 2 guys, give up 3 hits and 5 ER without recording an out in just 17 pitches anyway?
-
I don't think Flip can do anything about that if 'Sheed is convinced he's Tim Thomas without the 3's dropping. At 6'10 he's the only legit post threat they have if they re-sign Ben. They would benefit from a guy like Kurt Thomas who gets 12-14 & 10 with minimal plays run for him, but he doesn't think he's a 3 point shooter so the offense flows better. Either that, or Tayshaun needs to gain about 25 pounds in the offseason. They're a really odd team in that they're set from 1 to 3, but their 4 and 5 can either get them all the way to a title, or extended to 7 by LeBron and 4 other guys. This team as presently constructed will not win another title because everyone should know how to play them now.
-
I put more blame on 'Sheed than anyone else. He's the X factor on the team. Rip, Billups and Prince played pretty well at certain points throughout the series. Big Ben got exposed by the combination of leaving him out of the offense for quarters at a time, the Hack-A-Ben and he couldn't guard a two legged Shaq as well as he guarded the one legged one last year. When Rasheed played well this postseason the Pistons won. When he played like shit, so did the team. You just can't play offense 3 on 5 especially when you have no post presence whatsoever unless your PG is doing the posting. Having said all that Flip, is terrible. The man looks lost out there in every big game. All I need now is for Dallas to get it done, and I'll get to see my 3 favorite players in one series for all the marbles and either Dirk or Wade getting their first ring.
-
You don't want 'Sheed, and if the league keeps going a more offensive route you don't want to max out Ben either. They might be better off without either Wallace next season.
-
Does Coach Squanders look almost purple or maroon to anyone else watching on ESPN right now? He needs to be fired.
-
They almost need to do it this year. They don't play defense anymore and their offense is atrocious when Rip or Billups is off. They need to send 'Sheed packing because aside from guaranteeing victory he did a total of jack and shit in the postseason.
-
Much like in the WWE, ESPN doesn't expect you to remember the details. As far as they're concerned that draft only had 'Bron, Wade & 'Melo.

*Walker shimmy* DE-TROIT CAN SUCK MY BALLS! Thank God we won't have to hear that annoying piece of shit in the Finals. It looks like Riley made the smart move trading most of the core players from last year afterall.
-
Papelbon seems to be French for "automatic". 20 straight saves. And of course, Jeter drives in the go ahead run for the second time tonight.
-
They can try to drive to the basket instead of bricking three point shots all day. 3 for 15 isn't gonna cut it. I really don't care if they keep playing retarded offense because the Pistons are getting shitted on and I for one am loving it.
-
Detroit chokes up a 2-1 lead in the 9th on a 2 run HR by Yooks. Sawx lead 3-2 Bottom 9.
-
The Pistons have officially quit. Never thought I'd see it.
-
No one should ever sign to face that guy again, and when he does eventually move up in weight, none of the sanctioning bodies should ever give him a title shot. Blackball the fatty from the sport. What a piece of shit.
-
If Miami wins this game without Wade, Detroit should be ashamed of themselves.
-
There may not be a fight to Tivo thanks to that fat motherfucker not making weight AGAIN.
-
I didn't understand the logic behind that one either. Unless they play a doubleheader on Sunday, I agree with you that only one game will be played this weekend.

She was in Justine's quarter which meant she would have had to beat the defending champ and then two other top players. Nadia's never shown that ability. In theory, she COULD have done it. In reality, I would have made a lot of money offering people 25-1 on her winning because I knew it would never have happened.
-
Nadia was a serious threat considering her season thus far. I didn't have her winning due to her inexperience in important moments and general Russian insanity, but on the wacky women's side, who knows. If shitty Myskina won this 2 years ago, Nadia definitely could have if she was healthy and lucky. I believe the adjective you were looking for with Myskina is "sexy" not shitty. She won because everyone with talent was hurt at the time. Nadia didn't have that benefit and she's a nutjob to begin with. There's no way anyone should have thought she would win 7 matches in a 2 week timeframe with the pressure, and quality of opposition increasing every other day.

Crawford possibly blowing out his knee arguing a call was the funniest thing I've seen since one of the Grammaticas did it after making a kick or Gus Frerotte concussing himself.
-
Mike was so afraid of getting hit that I think he was just fearful of clinching with Matt, even though a couple of knees would have probably put the kid to sleep. That guy should never be close to the octagon again unless he pays for premium seats.
