    NHL Thread

Were the Sharks universally picked to finish (near) dead last in the West? If so, then Thornton should win. If not, it's Jagr's trophy.

    TWIB No. 2: 10 April-16 April

    .321 (9-28) 1 HR, 1 RBI, 4 R, 3 BB, 5 K. He doesn't have any other XBH.

Considering their abysmal start to last season, any rational Mets fan would take a 7-1 start even if it was against AA teams. There are no negatives to be had if we can put early pressure on the Phils (5 GB) & Braves (3.5 GB). Randy should be able to get some rest without going just 5 innings considering that the Yankees have like 4 off days in April and won't even need a 5th starter until April is almost over if I'm not mistaken.

Im going to need some advice..

This is an avoid at all costs evening. If you blow it in front of all of her friends, you're done. Clearly they are from out of town and she won't see them all that often, so they will take precedence over you, and based on the vibe I'm getting from your hesitation, I doubt you'll have a good time. You also don't want to get drunk and say or do anything stupid, so just make it a point to politely decline, but make sure you get some one on one time once the friends are back wherever it is that they are coming from.

Shit, I just got in and missed 3 Met homers. Ah well, I guess I'll catch the highlights. It's hard to believe one Wagner pitch aside they'd be 7-0 after last year's debacle out of the starting gate. I think this has been their most dominating performance as it's now 13-3. Joey Eischen is definitely taking one for the team.

    This week in the NBA

Basically, he tackled 'Sheed trying to commit a hard foul/send a message. The only problem was 'Sheed laughed it off. So he got ejected and punked afterwards in the post game comments.

I hope LeBron misses the playoffs because his coach is a fucking moron playing him late in the 3rd in a meaningless game when they were already down 20+. Of course he'll be fine, it's just the principle of the thing.

That's kind of misleading. How many times in the 56 AB's did Jeter just drive in the tying runs? Sure, it's great to tie it up AND then also take the lead on a hit, but tying it up in the 8th or later is almost as good. That stat also doesn't include games where Jeter went up where it was tied and gave the Yankees the lead.

    AMERICAN IDOl-SEASON 5: THE THREAD

It wouldn't be fair for Chris, Katharine, Elliott or Taylor to go home after their performances tonight. We might just see Paris in the bottom 3 tomorrow considering Pickler seems to be bulletproof. I'd mark the fuck out if Ace got the boot though.

    AMERICAN IDOl-SEASON 5: THE THREAD

I believe the order was Bucky, Ace, Kellie, Chris, Katharine. I know we haven't seen Elliott, Paris or Taylor yet. Ace and Kellie should be in trouble but I don't think Kellie will be.

    AMERICAN IDOl-SEASON 5: THE THREAD

Bucky > Ace again. Ace murdered that song. Pickler's up next. It's NOT going to be good based on the little preview.

Rivera probably just broke Sweeney's hand with that pitch.

Of course that jackass Jeter has to be the hero again. I knew he'd get them the lead, but didn't think he'd homer to left of all places.

Beltran just CRUSHED one to the upper deck in right in Washington. That was the furthest I've seen a Met hit one since the days of Strawberry or maybe Piazza in his prime. Dayum!

    This week in the NBA

Serious question, why is LeBron playing 42 minutes in a meaningless game? They can't improve their seed, or drop to the 5 so why not give him some rest?

If it gets shut down, oh well-Duke LAX team not a match

Considering she said the alleged attackers were white, why would they test the black guy?
  20. I just look it at based on where I'd like to go to watch wrestling given that 3 of the bigger arenas (MSG, Nassau & Continental) are a train ride/short car ride away for me, and that list basically begins and ends with Boston, Calgary, Charlotte, Chicago, Philly & Toronto (listed alphabetically). Anywhere else would probably annoy me just because the fans either go nuts for everything thus diluting their excitement, or they sit on their hands for 2 hours, thus wasting the money they paid to go see the show. I guess I'd rather be surrounded by cynical (objective? non brainwashed?) wrestling fans since I am one, and the last time I went to a show with too many rabid marks (RoH event) I wanted to punch people in the throat because they would not shut the fuck up and let a match breathe.
  21. Yes, that's one of the many reasons Montreal's fans suck. The night they turned La Res into Hoganesque faces was another I can remember. I forgot about Calgary as a good crowd. They're probably # 2 in Canada, but just to be clear to the person who asked if I've been to SD (no, but why would anyone want to go all the way to California from NYC to visit a small city?), I was talking about good crowds, not necessarily hot ones. It's a subtle difference. Some of those cities DA listed are full of marks who cheer for even the completely worthless types like Eugene, and while they may have been really "hot", they were certainly not a "good" crowd. I kind of view it like the ECW mutant crowd vs an RoH, or TNA in Orlando one. Anyone can be loud, but it takes really good fans to add to the experience in a positive way. Shouting TWOOOOOOOO at the top of your lungs doesn't add anything to the show for example.

Chipper has a grade 1 sprain of his right knee and ankle. Way to sell it like a soccer player though and act like your leg exploded as you fell. 15 day DL for Larry.
  23. Lies, dirty lies. I'll grant you that Chicago, Toronto, Charlotte (if Flair is in the building) and Boston & Philly (which you didn't mention) are definitely usually good places for the atmosphere, but Seattle, San Jose, San Diego or the other Canadian cities I don't think are anywhere near the best crowds. I honestly can't recall any show from one of those places ever being memorable because of anything the fans added to the show. However, Montreal is bar none consistently the worst crowd on the WWE circuit so maybe they should get a cheap plug here as well. Stop hatin'
  24. Yes, but MSG generally has the BEST crowds and while it may not always play into what the WWE wants they're still guaranteed solid reactions for almost every match.

When do you start to worry?

Even still when you need at least 10 wins out of 16 to make the playoffs in the AFC these days you can't really afford to take any game lightly, especially if it's in your division/conference due to all of the tiebreakers. In baseball you can go on a ten game losing streak and still end up 10-20 games over .500 just because there will always be teams like the Royals, D-Rays and the former Expos who are there to get fat on. In football if my team (the Giants) is 4-4 at the halfway point I don't expect them to make the playoffs unless they go at least 6-2 in the second half just because they're probably well behind the 6th spot and/or trailing in many of the key tiebreaks. On the other hand if the Mets are 41-41 they're firmly in the hunt just because they don't need to win at least 75% of their remaining games just to have a shot. Going 100-62 for example is more than likely going to win them the division by at least a handful of games, but a 10-6 football team could end up on the outside looking in.
