I guess I would describe it as something that is laughably out of date now in the way that something like Friends or Seinfeld is a '90s TV show in the sense that at the time it was trendy, but it hasn't aged well. You just know one when you see one. It's not one of the best movies put out in the 1980s by any means. To be more specific if it had big hair, "tough guys" and "nerds" clashing, people from the Brat Pack, and/or general HS angsty types it qualifies as an '80s movie.

That's a shame. It is the best of the '80s movies IMHO. I think I've probably seen it somewhere between 10 and 15 times and every single viewing was on WPIX/Ch. 11 here in NY on a weekend back when I was in HS since it was one of those films that was always in their rotation. The other film I've seen many times because of that is Weird Science which often was paired with The Breakfast Club on Sunday afternoons. Good times. Having said that I've never seen St. Elmo's Fire even though I've probably had 20+ chances to do so. I will also go to the grave having never watched Titanic.

Arenas had knee surgery and will miss at least the first month of the season. It's sad to see one of my favorite players slowly becoming Allan Houston.

Is something like this schedule what we're working with? I've got an exam and/or a paper or lab due in all 5 of the classes I'm taking between now and the 7th of October so having a whole month would be great for me. I have a rough sketch of what I want to do in mind, but for the most part I haven't put anything down on "paper" yet and just want to know how much time I'll have.

You'll have to direct me to the point where the Mets had this in the bag. Running the race and falling short (assuming they do, considering the deficit is HALF A GAME), is not the same thing as blowing a seemingly insurmountable lead. I guess blowing a 3 1/2 game lead with 17 to go doesn't qualify as a chokejob anymore simply because you blew a 7 game lead in the same number of games the previous year. Let's not quibble with the fact that the Mets have lost 4 out of 5 to two teams with nothing to play for anymore and that they ended up getting beaten twice by the Braves who they held in check for all but one inning in each game, and then ended up giving up a 7 spot to the Nats and then couldn't score against the immortal Odalis Perez. In summary they lost 4 games in the standings in 6 fucking days while they played bottom feeders and Philly had to deal with the Brewers who are doing their very best to keep the Mets in the hunt by not winning either. As far as I'm concerned that's the definition of choking and the magnitude really doesn't matter.

Vise Peeper Palin. Which would be shortened to V.P. Palin. Ugh.

I agree that he is a better worker than he was in his early days, but I just stopped caring about him when they humanized him over the years. The American Bad Ass variation was slightly interesting, but for the last handful of years it's almost like he's between all of these different characters that he's played. It's Classic 'Taker when they try to do lame special effects, MMATaker for no apparent reason other than because he seems to like showing off a gogoplata and then he's using moves from all of those different eras but I think what really irks me is that everything about his character is heelish and yet he still plays a face. If he was out there as a heel who didn't give a shit about the fans and was portrayed the same way I could stomach it. It's bad enough that Triple H is doing the same thing and I guess what really bothers me is that young/up and coming heels can't get over on SD because their egos are too big. Faces can get over by coming close to winning, but when your two "locker room leaders" seem to enjoy belittling the next generation in the ring and on the mic I get bored because it's not going to change anytime soon.

I almost thought McNabb was going to pardon the pun, "cowboy up" and win the game . . . but then I remembered it was Donovan McNabb I was watching and knew the game was over as soon as Westbrook coughed it up on that late exchange.

I haven't really enjoyed the Undertaker since his feud with Mankind. At one point he was probably in my top ten favorite active wrestlers, now I just want him to go away for good.
-
It's ridiculous that a league with instant replay can all but give away a victory like that because the head official blew a call and can't overturn it because someone blew a whistle too early.
-
If there's any justice the stupid ass Broncos will fail on this conversion.
-
Denver just got away with murder on that one. The NFL's asinine "once the whistle blows everything dies" rule is so stupid, especially on plays like this one.

Thankfully the Giants still have Justin Tuck on the defensive line. That guy looks like a stud in the making.

Chasing Thigpen is finally over since K-Rod tied the record and barring an injury or 16 games without a single save opportunity he'll break the record by at least a couple.
-
The Mets will likely offer him a monster contact for 5 or 6 years ($60-90 million), and then he'll blow out his arm midway through year 2 and render the rest of the contract worthless like Wagner's is now or Pedro's has been for the last few years.

I know the Mets won, but why does Heilman ever get in to pitch in games where the Mets are winning? The guy is a fucking train wreck. His ERA is almost 5.50 and his WHIP is over 1.5. With the exception of June where he gave up 1 ER in 14 IP he's been atrocious and I just can't understand why Manuel keeps letting him go out there to blow leads.

That whole exchange was weak from Pudge's "elbow", to the pussy shove from behind by Hunter, and was then capped off by the slap attempt. I don't know why baseball players ever act like they're going to fight when it's pretty clear that 99% of them can't throw/take a punch anyway.
-
Pudge and Hunter nearly got into a bit of a scrum at home plate and Pudge threw the bitchiest of slap attempts I've ever seen in a baseball game. The Angels don't need to get into this BS since they're actually going to the postseason and the Yankees aren't.

Wagner has a torn ligament (MCL) in his elbow and is out for at least A YEAR. Therefore he's done for 2008 and most, if not all, of 2009. Time for the Mets to drastically overpay for K-Rod this offseason and then watch him not live up to the hype. The cycle must continue!

Everyone in the media is basically saying that McCain doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would survive his entire term and that's why the party is rabidly behind Palin now. She NEVER would have been able to win the nomination, but this way she might just slide her way into the White House on the ticket of someone the conservatives don't really care for anyway. It's win/win for them if they get to keep Obama out and have a decent chance that they might just get a few years of a Palin presidency as well.

I'm pretty sure they didn't know he blew his ACL out at that moment. This injury opens up the entire AFC which is nice, but now the more delusional Jets fans around NYC will start to think it is their destiny to win the SB this year. We didn't even get through the first week of the season before it was all but guaranteed that neither team will get back to the big game in February.
-
It seems like you forgot that Bush already bamboozled Americans into voting him to be president TWICE. Now that they have the pin up girl for the party I'm surprised they're not 10 points ahead.

Rashad's last 2 KOs have been the stuff of legend. -
She also did that same speech earlier this afternoon around either 12 or 1 PM EST somewhere else. I was watching Obama talking in Pennsylvania I think when they cut him off to show that earlier speech.

I missed the whole game except the final play where a 'Skins linemen tried to break Kiwanuka's ankle, but I did see the score was pretty lackluster. Were the Giants any good or did Washington just suck?
