    Double Albums...

You know, after finally hearing most of the songs on the album, I really can't understand the Sandista! hate now. I can understand how it's not very *loved*... but all of the people who just seem to despise it confuse me. "Magnificent Seven" and "Police On My Back" are both great, and while the album isn't too consistant (would any triple-album be?) there's plenty of other gems on there too... and hey, it's the Clash! I suppose that the hate really just comes from comparing the album to most of the other stuff that the Clash did. Oh, and Kurt Cobain didn't like the album, so he must be right! Then again, he didn't like the band period, so... well, suck it Cobain.

    Does anyone else hate

I've got a video of the Clash doing "I Fought the Law"... and I always LOVED the video. It's quite phenominal. But then a friend informed me that it was just a promo video or something. I think it was in their movie, but I don't think they lip-synched. Either way, I was dissapointed that it was just for a movie instead of an actual concert.

Somebody make me like punk rock again.

How about the X-Ray Spex? They were riot grrrl 20 years before everyone else was, and though that might turn you off, I'll ensure you that they know how to rock. And I'm not sure if you've heard of them, but Agent Orange is always a solid choice, despite not being straight up punk. Checking out their first two albums would be worth your while. Pure Mania by the Vibrators and Inflammable Material by the Stiff Little Fingers also might work, though knowing you, you've probably already got both of those.

Which concerts have you been to

Very awesome dudes, though. I hear they're great live, too. I still hate myself for missing them the one time they came down to Southern California within the last few years. They do put on a great show. I've caught them twice and enjoyed each concert a lot. Hrm, I'm interested though... how did meeting them come about?

Listening to artists who no longer

"Silver and Gold" by Joe Strummer bums me out. Even though it's a cover and everything, you can tell that he really means every lyric of the song.

    Your Five Favorite Anything

The Led Zeppelin Edition: 1. When the Levee Breaks 2. No Quarter 3. That's the Way 4. In My Time of Dying 5. Babe I'm Gonna Leave You There's about three other tracks that all could've been #4 or #5, but eh. Oh, and I didn't count the live version of "Dazed and Confused," either. That would've made #2 or #3 if I had, I'd imagine. Ehh, and just for kicks, here's the Velvet Underground edition: 1. Heroin 2. Sister Ray 3. The Murder Mystery 4. Venus in Furs 5. Some Kinds of Love "After Hours" should be on there by all means, but I just couldn't find a spot for it.

OH, and why has no one brought up Tom LOSING TO ASH yet!? I mean yeesh, if only to just piss Taamo off...

    DUDES

Someone find Fallout vs. TNT. ...It needs to be found. I think it was even the last time Fallout was booked! So it's HISTORYZ~! and... stuff! Oh, or hey, I could go fishing back to the SJL for a T-Bone/TNT/Ced tables match, where I thought I was being all clever by having T-Bone powerbombed through not just a table, but also the PERIODIC *TABLE* OF ELEMENTS! OH GOD THE IRONY OF IT ALL! ...I was *completely* serious about this at the time, it should be noted.

    Recent Purchases

How's the former? I hear it's good and have been meaning to pick it up, but an opinion on it would be nice. And Edwin -- how's the Slint working out for you? That's another one I've been meaning to pick up. Anyhow, this weekend I rebought Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables by the Dead Kennedys, and it reminded me how much I <3 Jello. Aside from that, I picked up Staring at the Sea: The Singles by the Cure, which is as good as expected, though I tend to like their later stuff better.

    PRINCE GOING ON TOUR~!

Got my tickets. Nothing too special. Even if they're horrendously bad, the Pixies/Cure combo will cheer me up a month later anyway.

    PRINCE GOING ON TOUR~!

This has indeed been announced as Prince's last tour ever and it's to support his new Musicology album. So all I want to know is... how much would it be to see him at the Staples Center?? I need to start saving up NOW.

What are the best and worst remixes

I <3 Soulwax's combination of Skee-Lo's "I Wish," the Breeders' "Cannonball," and Eye of the Tiger. It's da bomb, and stuff.

    Pixies

The BBC is what made "Levitate Me" one of my favorite Pixies songs. They preform it magnificently. And as for the tour, does anyone hope that they play any more obscure stuff? Obviously they'll play all of the songs they're known for, and "Vamos" and "Into the White" and "The Lady In the Radiator Song"... but I'm really pulling for "Letter to Memphis," "Tony's Theme," and "Subbacultcha."

    The Darkness

Hey I like Duran Duran. Well doesn't everyone? I don't quite see the huge similarity between Spinal Tap and the Darkness. They're both satirical, but Spinal Tap was SOLELY a joke band making fun of serious heavy-metal bands all the time, whereas the Darkness are a bunch of guys giving odes to Freddy Mercury, having fun, and producing some awesomely catchy and pretty decent overall music in the meantime. Will the Darkness be around after three albums if they stay with the same act? Probably not, but as for now, they're a lot better than what else is out right now, and phenominal and fun live, or so I hear. Plus, their success isn't really bugging me as I caught onto them before they were big in the U.S. or even too huge in Britain, and I don't watch MTV or listen to the radio, so whether a song is overplayed or not doesn't quite affect me. That said, I WILL make it clear that they're DEFINITELY not just one-hit-wonders like Chumbawumba. If you just listen to their album all the way through, you'll see that their music is a lot more varied than you would think, and "I Believe In a Thing Called Love" is actually probably in the worse half of the album. Oh, and the cover of the album has boobies (though they're covered up with paddles) on it. Now what harm can that do.

    Pixies

I always figured Surfer Rosa was one of those "musts" when getting into indie music. In hindsight, it kinda feels like the must. What else could compete? Velvet Underground's first album. My Bloody Valentine's Loveless. Most recent addition would probably be Neutral Milk Hotel's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. Loving any or all of these albums isn't a requirement, but they're touchstones in independent music. (I'm using the term "independent" loosely, by the way.) The Velvet Underground is my favorite band ever (actually they're sort of tied with the Pixies/Zeppelin/Prince/Clash, but whatever), and I believe all of their albums to be completely necessary, but while they WERE an independant band of sorts, I don't think that their music is anywhere near most indie bands of the last 20 years, or anything that "indie kids" listen to these days. I dunno, I just consider Nico's monotone delivery on "All Tomorrow's Parties" to be miles and miles away musically from the sweet noise-rock of "When You Sleep." That said, Loveless and company are all very important, but I'll be the first to say that Surfer Rosa is THE record.

    Pixies

From the Winnipeg Sun: Music fans from across North America had only 240 seconds to gobble up tickets this morning before legendary indie rock band the Pixies sold out their upcoming premier reunion show in Winnipeg. "We were phoning and we were on the Internet. We had a laptop and a home computer and two phones," said Jay Sorby, who managed to secure four tickets for $143 just after 10 a.m. "We set up our alarms. I kept tossing and turning all night." HOTLY ANTICIPATED RETURN The Boston-based alternative rockers' hotly anticipated return to the stage at the Burton Cummings Theatre on April 14 caused chaos at the box office, with people as far away as Los Angeles and New York snatching up the 1,500 seats in record time. "It went faster than any of us thought," said Peter Valdi, TicketMaster's general manager. "It's absolutely amazing." Valdi said telephone and Internet lines opened up at 10 a.m., and by 10:04 a.m. there was nothing left. About 70% of fans purchased tickets on the Internet, with accounts stretching from New Jersey to Montreal to Connecticut, Michigan, L.A., and New York. "The demand for this has been absolutely insane," Valdi said. Previously, the Dave Matthews Band held the record for fastest sell-out at the Burton Cummings Theatre, which was 45 minutes. "This pretty much, and sorry Dave Matthews, kicks the poop out of him," said Valdi. One of the most influential rock bands of the late '80s, the Pixies released five albums between 1986 and 1993, then suffered a bitter break-up. They re-connected last fall. Fans aren't sure why the original lineup of Frank Black (vocals and guitar), Joey Santiago (guitar), Kim Deal (bass) and David Lovering (drums) decided to kick off their Canadian, U.S. and European reunion tour here. An appreciative crowd embraced Black last year when he played a sold-out show at Le Rendez-Vous with his band The Catholics. Sources have said the enthusiastic reception he received helped the Pixies choose this city as their starting point. Sorby's been a fan since he was a teenager and was excited to be one of the lucky ones. "I was pretty pumped, because I knew that I could take a couple of friends with me," he said. "Then I felt guilty, because I can't take everybody." ...Badass.

    Pixies

Agreed. One of the only covers I've heard that's actually superior to the original (or at least on par... hard to compare seeing as how different it is from the JaMC version, which rules too.)

    Pixies

I honesty have liked every single Pixies song of all time (and I've heard them all)... the one that I don't like too much being "Dig For a Fire"... but I must say, Bossanova is DEFINITELY their least accessible album, of the four LP's and main EP, and though it's the first album that I bought and I still liked it, I would recommend starting out with the first two LP's. That said, I never got the Trompe Le Monde hate. It's fuckin' brilliant, despite the lack of Kim Deal's glorious backing-vocals for the main part. That, and I like the original recording of "Subbacultcha" better than the one done for the album.

    Most Annoying Movie Quotes, References....

Was thinking the exact same thing. Heh. I agree with whoever mentioned Kevin Smith (don't you just want to STRANGLE the kids who think that Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back is the best thing ever when they haven't even seen the first four movies that the movie is just one big tribute to? I sure do), but for me it's got to be Austin Powers. Right when the second one came out (which I hated -- liked the other two), EVERYONE was quoting Fat Bastard. My head was going to explode. EDIT: And as Angelslayer said, Monty Python is timeless. Quoting them will never, ever lose its trendiness. Ever. When I am 90, I will still occassionally inform people that their mother was a hamster.

    Ed Wood on DVD

What's this about a Little Shop of Horrors collector's item? Never heard about that. 1-2 years would be way too long for me, though. I'll hit it up on eBay.
