Le sigh, and funny enough, "Heart of Glass" is most likely my least favorite Blondie song off the top of my head. A lot of people only see them as a "gimmick band," as well, much like the Hives. And bisexual or not, the point I was trying to get across was that it doesn't fuckin' matter. I just hate how people judge someone by their sexuality (or what they think their sexuality is) and don't even bother to get into their music, especially since most efforts from Prince, Bowie, and Queen are utterly brilliant.

Zen Arcade + Singles Going Steady + What's the Story (Morning Glory)? = Gold. I really don't get the White Stripes hate either. I swear to God, I've got this little indie-femenist-girl of a friend who LOOOVES all of those Hot Hot Heat and Yeah Yeah Yeah's bands, but doesn't like the White Stripes. I suppose they're just too commercial or something, but as much as I try to tell her that they're VERY similar to the Yeah Yeah Yeah's, she denies it. Also, she likes Modest Mouse, and I don't mind the band (two of their CD's are greatness, the rest are "eh",) but I could definitely see how one could find them annoying.

Every time I mention Queen to anyone I know, all they ever say is "That's guy was a fag. They suck." I hate people. That's probably one of the worst problems with modern people who have narrow-minded outlooks on music. "Mercury? Prince? Bowie?" Even if the last two aren't even gay, all I get is a "FAG." I mean, hell, 80% of Prince's lyrics revolve around fucking women in every way imaginable, but also, he's just damn good. Geh... and same with some bands like Blondie, or even the Pretenders on occassion. "Oh, that band's for girls." Some of you may think this one to be a little farefetched, but people have actually said that to me. God, some people just need to be dropped into a vat of acid or something. Seriously.

SWF Fight Before Christmas Comments
5_moves_of_doom replied to TheBostonStrangler's topic in Smarks Wrestling Federation
Jesus... this means two things: 1.) Someone has a REALLY good memory. 2.) Someone actually READ my matches. Uhm, (Y) to both, and stuff. Anyhow, I'm out and about tonight, but tomorrow I'll start off my vacation by at least skimming most of this stuff and reading 3-4 matches in detail. I'd say "Oh I'll read through the whole thing no prob," but that never ends up happening, so eh, I'll at least gather enough information for some constructive comments. Oh, and congrats to Ejiro~! and stuff. -
It's not that their music is necessarily Godly in quality that's the hype... as you said, it's decent (and then some, in my opinion, but not Godly;) it's the fact that basically the whole band gimmick is the whole hair metal revival, over the top, the actual band members are Gods thing. It's like Queen or Zeppelin. While I might prefer, say, the Pixies' music better than both, the Pixies lack the mere God-like presence of both bands. There's really nothing like Freddie Mercury live -- he seems almost inhuman. There's a natural charisma that just makes him seem so awesome. And basically, the Darkness is trying to reinact this. So far, they're succeeding quite admirably, even if "I Believe In a Thing Called Love" isn't quite as great as "This Thing Called Love." EDIT: Not sure if I found the right words to put that in, but I'm sure you've got some idea of what I mean throughout all of that pointless rambling.
-
Hrmph, really? I love "Friday Night," but Growing on Me" has to be one of the more annoying songs on the album, in my opinion. That "or am I growing on yoooou" background vocals bit really bugs me for some reason. My top three tracks would have to be "I Believe In a Thing Called Love," "Friday Night," and "Love on the Rocks with No Ice." All gloriously catchy and singable. Anyhow, when is the Darkness going to hit us with a full-on American tour? Their second album? It better be soon, because I'm awfully antsy to see them live.

WHO HATES KING CRIMSON!? I'll kick his ass. Primus rocks it as well, though I can't relate to the hate, as most of my friends are into them. As for metal, I'd say I'm one of the rare "meh" people that you mentioned. Or perhaps it's just me reacting to the different types of metal. I <3 Black Sabbath and AC/DC as well as most of the other classics, and Faith No More too (assuming that they qualify as metal,) but once you get into all of the subgenres -- hardcore, deathcore, grindcore, thrash, black metal... I just get scared and run away. Cannibal Corpse fan I am not.

Also when he's testing the mic after an encounter with the Rock... "Testies testies one two one two."
-
"ZYKLON! ZYKLON! ZYKLON!" I had gotten that far, and I had already decided my reply -- dude, what the hell is wrong with you? Good promo, anyway.
-
I missed like a season and a half of this show and started watching again at the goth episode (which kicked ass, by the way)... but I don't get it -- is Kenny still around? He died, then he came back through Cartman... I don't recall him being in the last episode... but he's in this one? I'm just confused now.
-
The funny thing is, is that that's pretty much 100% true.
-
Nonsense. A straight-out example to use against your friend would be to point out how Bob Dylan directly influenced the Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Clubs Band," which in turn influenced pretty much everything. I believe that some of Dylan's work also influenced Bowie a whole lot, who REALLY influenced everyone, whether they know it or not.

I've got one or two friends who actually like the Pixies, and zero for liking the Velvet Underground (though that's mostly a "The Velvet who?" thing. Prince and Bjork are two others, but the main one is Blondie (one or two girl friends like them, but that's it basically) along with pretty much every other post-punk/new wave band. Gang of Four, Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Jam (though I don't like them too much...)... the list goes on and on. Actually, aside from a bunch of "EVERYONE likes them" bands like Led Zeppelin (and most people are on a "OH I LOVE THEM! STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN ROX AND THE YELLING IN THE IMMIGRANT SONG IS TIIIGHT!" basis for them, too), I'd say that pretty much none of my friends like most of the bands that I like. They're mostly all into metal/rap (my two least favorite genres, though I do like quite a few groups in both categories) or punk. Oh, and has anyone else had the problem of people dismissing legends (Miles Davis, Beehtoven, Elvis) as music that only parents can listen to? Seriously.
-
Who placed on the 100 greatest women in rock list, eh? Kim Deal and Tina Weymouth better've made it, along with Patti Smith, Nico, and the more obvious ones (Deborah Harry, Chrissie Hynde) too.
-
When did this "Led Zeppelin was a bad live band" argument ever exist? Because of The Song Remains the Same, or what? If so, I'd have to disagree anyway, as the movie and the album really aren't as bad to me as they are to some people.

When they locked the casket it was still by the ring so Taker slipped out then. If you notice Paul Bearer knocks on the casket before they roll it away to see if Taker was out yet. I guess Taker would have knocked back if he was still in it. I suppose it's not fun to joke about death, but in this case I think it'd be pretty funny if UT got stuck, and when all of the guys with the fire extinguishers came in for the dramatic "OMG NO CORPSE!" moment, and they ended up finding a well-done Undertaker in there, there was a huge "oh... fuck" moment. ...What? I'd laugh.

Twas The Fight Before Xmas Predictions
5_moves_of_doom replied to HVilleThugg's topic in Smarks Wrestling Federation
Annie "Ichiban" Onita versus John "The Sinner" Duran versus Stryke versus Johnny Dangerous ~ Hrm, I've come to just assume that Annie/Stryke will noshow, and Johnny does quite a bit too (er, he used to at least, but I haven't been around in a while), so Duran Duran with the W. "Judge Mental" William Hearford versus ??? ~ I have faith in Judge, but I like ??? man. And that finisher of his -- the ??? -- is just mind blowing. So uh, go him, unless it's MVS. Xstasy versus Wildchild versus Michael Craven versus Crowe versus Linchpin ~ I haven't been reading much as of late, so I'm not sure about how Xstasy and Linchpin are doing lately. That said, Mike'll probably piss me off once again and win it, but I'm counting on Wildchild to take this stip. to its limits and pull out the win. Crowe might just as well, too. Va'aiga versus Terrence "Janus" Bailey ~ Hrm... Janus. The man is a total nut. "The Franchise" Mak Francis versus the Hville Thugg ~ Grrrrrg. Beating Thugg could give Mak a huge lift, but I don't want Thugg's neck to be broken again, so I'll go with him, for his sake. Dace Night versus Charlie "Grappler" Matthews ~ Dace is great and everything... and I'm counting on him to go horrorcore in this baby, but c'mon, his grammar is atrocious. Hehe. Could go either way, but Charlie's my man. The Boston Strangler versus Erek Taylor ~ Grrr at retirement. I say TBS, in Erek's match, or Erek, in TBS's match, or something whacky like that. AND THE MAIN EVENT… "THE SUPERIOR ONE" TOM FLESHER VERSUS EJIRO FASAKI ~ I'll mark out if Ejiro pulls this off, but Tom's the safe bet. -
Alright, having just had about 21 CD's stolen from me, I'm really not in the state to be thinking outside of just buying those back, but there is one band that I've been meaning to check out for quite some time now, and since they never released any studio albums, it's not so easy. The band, as the title might suggest, is of course the L.A. punk rock band from the late 1970's, the Screamers. Mostly known for being one of the most popular acts ever not to release a studio album, and for being compiled of a ranting/raving singer, a drummer, and (get this, no guitars) two keyboardists, they sounded pretty interesting, and one of those bands that I could sound cool by knowing who they are. Heh. Anyhow, though my tastes are by no means limited to punk, I love most bands out of the genre (pretty much every original punk band aside from oddly enough, the Sex Pistols), and so I was basically just wondering if there was anyone here who could testify to any greatness that this band might have. The "grey-market" album that I was going to go ahead and check out is the 2-disc "In a Better World," but before I did I just wanted to check here and see if anyone liked the album, had heard the album, or hell, had even heard of the band. So pretty much, if you've heard the band -- would you recommend them to me, or no? Any opinions would recieve mucho gratitude...-o, from me. So yeah, thanks to anyone who replies.

My God that's a brilliant, brilliant site. Thanks a bunch. Seriously, with Trompe Le Monde at less than $6, I can buy all this back for almost $100 less. Swankage.

Alright, I know that this board is primarily used for people giving their opinions on music and stuff, but I've had a really bad day and I just need to vent. Really not much of a story, actually, so I'll just get to what I'm upset about. I leave my backpack alone at a highschool for all of seven minutes, and when I come back, it's been utterly torn apart, with every pocket searched, from the way it looks. Now, nothing immediately seemed wrong. Everything I'd need for school was there. My sunglasses, Complete Works of Louis Carol book, and running shoes are there... everything seems to be alright. ...It only takes me about 2 more minutes to realize that my CD case has been stolen, and this brings one word to the forefront almost immediately -- "fuck." Now, I've had all the "shouldn't have left your backpack alone" and "should've had that at a public highschool in the first place" crap that I need for one day, and I'll admit that it was stupid, but still, I can't help but being absolutely furious at this whole thing, considering that music is more or less what gets me through each day. Mind you, these weren't all of my CD's... in fact, they're all rather concentrated into the indie pop genre, as I was just in an indie pop mood while packing my CD case, I suppose. This means of course that luckily all of my rock n' roll, metal, and especially Led Zeppelin CD's are still around, but still... the casualties were horrific. Let's take a look, shall we? The Pixies -- "Surfa Rosa" The Pixies -- "Doolittle" The Pixies -- "Bossanova" The Pixies -- "Trompe Le Monde" Pavement -- "Slanted and Enchanted" Joy Division -- "Unknown Pleasures" Joy Division -- "Closer" Beck -- "Mellow Gold" Prince -- "Sign 'O' the Times" ' David Bowie -- "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars" Jefferson Airplane -- "Surrealistic Pillow" Hot Hot Heat -- "Making Up the Breakdown" The Clash -- "Live -- From Here to Eternity" The Dead Kennedys -- "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables" Siouxsie and the Banshees -- "The Seven Year Itch" The Velvet Underground and Nico -- "Velvet Underground & Nico" The Who -- "Live at Leeds" The Jesus and Mary Chain -- "21 Singles" The Breeders -- "Pod" The Breeders -- "Last Splash" Blondie -- "Parallel Lines" Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Grand total of $295.76 on amazon.com, after I'd done the math. I filed a report with the school in horrific detail including phrases such as "proverbially raped," "must die," and "mentally unstable," but I doubt they'll do anything. What am I going to do without any Pixies? I guess I should get a job or something, but until then, I'm just bitching and moaning to anyone who will listen. I can't really think of any responses this might get, as it really wasn't anything to respond too, but I guess I should start some sort of discussion... Uh, what are your opinions on thievery, and.. uh, whaddya think of my collection? It doesn't really accurately represent the rest of what I've got at home, but still, that's about 1/5th of it, so yeah. Anyhow, not sure why anyone would read this, but I just needed to type it all out so that I could look at the list of CD's and the big number and cry. Oh well -- afterschool job, here I come...

Hrm, I live in South California... Orange County, but I didn't know that you could access most 2nd hand stores via the web. I suppose I'll try to check this out later on tonight, though, as it sounds like a good enough idea, if it means that I don't have to buy all these back at the full $10-$15 (even $20 for about three of them) prices. Thanks again.
-
That's what happened to a friend of mine. His storage bin was "broken into" (but we knew the bitch he shared it with stole them) and all his CDs (about 500 of them) came up missing! But what do we see in the local used CD store a month later? Alot of his CDs! (the stuff no one else would like and rare imports/bootlegs and such) so he bit the bullet and bought alot of them back. He never did anything about the theft though.. which is surprising. If that were me I would have gone on a murderous rampage or something. Anyway, That sucks... it looks like you had some good stuff there. Did your CDs have the cases with them? Because if they were just the caseless CDs I doubt they'd be able to sell them for anything. They were all contained in one of those flip-book CD-holders... with the little pockets and stuff... not sure what to call it, but I'm sure that you know what I'm talking about. In short, I don't think people would be willing to pay too much for uncased Pixies albums, so the most the person would get would be about $20 (if that) for the Ramones CD booklet. Basically, this is why I think putting a reward up might work, though if I stole 21 CD's from someone, I wouldn't want to show my face and give them back, reward or not, so I'm not sure. RoyalBlue -- Thanks for the suggestions. I've been meaning to pick up some Smiths albums since like, forever, seeing as how awesome "Girlfriend in a Coma" is, and Primal Scream's also been on the "to check out" list. I suppose that for now there's no real way that I can get back my CD's without just shelling out the dough, unless I find a lot of people willing to buy me Christmas presents, or I find a brilliant little 2nd hand store of some sort. The good thing about all of this is that no matter how crappy the case is (say I buy a completely-cracked copy of "Making up the Breakdown,") as long as the actual CD's intact, I can just put it in my copy of the case and it'll be as good as new.
-
You never know, they might become little indie kids instead. Turning a metaller on to The Pixies = priceless Nah, I'm betting whoever commited this atrocious act will see the cds that you have and throw them out for not being KoRn or Godsmack. Then, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they find you and try to beat you up for listening to that "little fag" Prince. And hey, that David Bowie's a fag too right? Yeah. It was the official "Let's beat this kid up because we're in high school" collection. Yeah, the bright side that I was looking at was that my collection might educate some retarded little bastard in a music taste actually broader than 50 Cent. Anyhow, like someone else said -- not having the real thing is just too much for me. I mean, I'm not sure if it means that I'm a perfectionist, or an obsessive compulsive, or whatever, but when I put my copy of "Velvet Underground and Nico" I WANT to see a motherfucking banana, and when I'm rocking out to the Dead Kennedys, the man-possessed-image of Jello Biafra preaching to the crowd on the CD gives me a comforting feeling. Anyhow, I guess I'll buy them all back gradually (it IS Christmas, so I suppose I could score about ten of them from relatives right now and even my parents, as I think I've changed my mind on wanting a guitar) and maybe even put up a reward of $200-ish for anyone who returns them, considering that whoever took them probably is dissapointed with the loot anyway. Oh, and just to further some conversation -- I'm always up for recommendations. Looking at what I've got right there, are there any albums that any of you might think that I just need to check out, judging from that? I'm always into getting new music recommended to me, and since you guys now have a vague idea of my tastes, it'd be a nice little touch to an otherwise devestating situation. Thanks to anyone who replies, anyhow.

TWAS THE FIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS card!
5_moves_of_doom replied to a topic in Smarks Wrestling Federation
Ho. Ly. Shit. Best card you've produced since Genesis, King. Some would say it's over-stipped, but hey, it's Christmas! Only (minor) complaints are the lack of any Hannukah (someone help me out on the spelling here) themed matches, and the "I Quit" match, as I believe that that stip has been overused as of late (mind you, it will still be great.) This is something that I actually plan on reading in-depth, and I'm not sure if Grand Slam (the marker of "Away In the Manger") is easily offended, but I want to see someone get beaten to a pulp with a baby Jesus mannequin, dammit. Anyhow, there couldn't be a more suiting Christmas present for us SWF-ers. Job well done, King.
