Ultimate Fighter Season 4 the thread...
randomguy replied to Lt. Al Giardello's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
I'm not feeling this. On one hand the fights should be good and it shouldn't be full of lamers who can't make weight or are way out of shape. All these guys can fight. The bad part is as vets they are probably used to doing their own thing, you probably won't see them grow much during the show and most of them are probably at or about their maximum potential already. With TUF guys you might say they are raw but they have potential to be great. Most of these guys don't have the potential to be anything but midcarders. -
I drink all the time at work. So no! I work at a tech company. We once had an employee that was a hefty guy and would have 3 beers at lunch or a few beers throughout the day. When I get to work every day the first thing I do is make myself an Irish Coffee. (Coffee + Whiskey) If someone is drunk at work then yes, they should probably be fired. If they have a drinking problem they should probably be fired. If they just drink a drink and it doesn't effect their performance at all then at some places it isn't a problem. Maybe you should get into the entire story a bit. It depends a lot on the job. Customer service? (Or anything customer facing) Probably shouldn't be drinking. Engineer that sits in his office cranking out code all day? Maybe not the worst thing in the world. I think my co-workers *prefer* that I drink because I am in a noticeably better mood after my morning ritual.

All cardio is good cardio really. Eat well and stick to it - that's all there is to it really. Don't get lazy either with your diet or your routine. And eat some vegetables - they're good for you!

Sun and Steel is pretty decent and I like To Tame a Land also. However "Quest for Fire" is just embarrassing - "In a time when dinosaurs walked the earth" is not how to open a song.

Thanks for the google link. Some more observations: Leben is throwing mostly big sweeping hooks, whereas Silva threw basically all straight punches. Silva looks to be a lot faster and more accurate than Leben and that just accentuates the difference. The first whiff from Leben didn't come within 2 feet of hitting Silva - missed by a mile. Hooks are good some times(like when a guy has his hands up in front of his face, or you are in close) but a guy throwing all wild hooks is the sign of a brawler. Leben was just beat to the punch a bunch of times while winding up, or nailed with a stiff straight punch while trying to close distance. A couple times it looked like Leben was stepping in to throw a big hook and instead got tagged twice by two efficient straights. Silva looked pretty natural but Leben looked kind of confused from the outset. I wonder how many leftys Leben has fought? He looked totally lost. I'm not sure what he was doing when he went to the ground, it didn't look like a takedown attempt, just some off-balance flailing.

In the second gif you can see that even before the kick to the side of the head Leben took two good shots. He got punched in the face twice, kept moving forward and not protecting, got kicked in the head, kept moving forward and not protecting, then got popped twice more in the face and once more to the temple. Maybe this will teach him that when he gets hit hard he should stop advancing for a second or at least cover up instead of leaning forward and throwing slow ugly hooks. He fought like a guy who has never really taken a set of strong shots before, like he could just wade through them and keep going.

I thought it wasn't too bad overall. The middle third was pretty slow. Wagner was mediocre and her part wasn't very well-written either. The parts that had Blade in them were good, and I liked the overall vibe and plot. I'm a sucker for genre fiction stuff so I'll probably watch for a while unless it totally turns into the Wagner show. Edit: For a Spike TV show this was amazing.
-
I would have to watch again but it looked to me that a lot of the strikes that annoyed/hurt Leben hit him square in the face, in the upper mouth and nose. Not sure though.

Goulet won that fight. He took the first round without question. Second round was close, Luke did some good damage but was in trouble again the last 3 minutes. (AKA the majority of the round) Goulet dominated for the better part of round 3 as well. I'm tempted to give Luke the second round because of the damage he did in the first 1:30 but even then it is 29-28. 30-27 is fine with me as well. Edit: I'm surprised by Leben as well, even though I think he is highly overrated. Basically every strike Silva threw hit him and seemed to either hurt him or shock him. He looked like a guy who had literally never been hit before.
-
Goulet takes round 1 and 3? Edit: 29-29? WTF? I can see giving Luke the second round as he did more damage overall. Even though?

Sticky was good in the The Shield and the best part of Over There so I'll be watching.

Leben and Bonnar got exposed. Bonnar has a good chin but no power at all, he almost lost to Whitehead and hasn't shown any ability to do damage with strikes. His striking is very very sloppy. When he punches he leans in with his face. Bonnar lost to Rashad and would lose to most good strikers as well. Leben just got picked apart. That was a thing of beauty. Both of these guys have to learn that blocking strikes with your face is not going to work in the long run. I was very impressed with Silva. He landed a lot of jabs and other very accurate shots. He moved side to side and Leben just whiffed over and over again while Silva was hitting with pinpoint accuracy. I didn't see Leben land anything at all really while Silva landed a half-dozen solid shots. Leben really looked lost. He would step in, whiff badly and get tagged on the way out. Or stand there and get tagged with a jab. Leben's chin didn't look good at all in that fight, even the jabs were really bothering him. Something to keep in mind is that Silva is also a lefty and that neutralizes the normal advantage Leben has. Leben and Bonnar both got exposed as low skill brawlers.

I never thought about that before but that's a really good point about The Usual Suspects. It comes together really well at the end but it isn't (to me) a movie that is engrossing at all times. I've seen it once and when I've tried to watch it again I've just gotten bored.

Couple of comments: 1: Was Kelly in OVW or Deep South or anything like that ? 2: I will NEVER get people who say "why did they give this away for free?" You can't show pure shit every week then expect people to like your product and buy your PPV. "Giving away" good matches is a horrible way of looking at it. All the TV matches are supposed to be bland snooze-fests? I understand not having the title change hands on TV or some momentous occasion take place. But it seems very silly to think that TV basically shouldn't show any good matches.

The story with Imposter Kane and Kane.
randomguy replied to UseTheSledgehammerUh's topic in The WWE Folder
You guys ever see Silent Hill or play the game? Impostor Kane is the evil half of Kane. Kane was one guy but when he took of his mask his evil half was cast out and became Kane 2. That explains why unmasked Kane has been a jobber and not that evil. When Kane 2 and Kane merge back together then they will be that much more powerful, the original Kane with both halves merged back together. Book it! -
IIRC Kendall got some pretty good licks in during standup in the third round, including at least 1 very good knee to the body.

MMA Comments that Don't Warrant a Thread
randomguy replied to RavishingRickRudo's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
It originated with the Gracie family. It's basically MMA before the term "MMA" existed. -
Does he have scissors for hands?

I don't understand why people are so high on Koschek. He still has no standup and no ability to finish on the ground. His fight with Fickett (?) was the perfect illustration. He dominated but had no ability to end the fight, then lost in the last 20 seconds. His style is still very much get his opponent down then wonder what to do.

Hooking up with other employees when you've been told not to certainly WOULD fly in the real world. The NFL has a longstanding no players dating cheerleaders rule. I don't see the problem with it. Dating in the workplace always causes problems, probably moreso with a bunch of hot women and roided up macho men.

Cathedral's The Ethereal Mirror. The first half is great, the second half they revert back to tired doom metal garbage.

Sounds like a train wreck really.

Well, I'm somewhat dissapointed that they just used this episode to re-establish the status quo. I was hoping Dean and Hank were gone for good. Oh well.

Well, the eastern conference doesn't have a lot of depth. A team with a 45% winning percentage has a good shot.
