I think I did mention it. Anyway yeah that was weird, like he tapped out then realized the choke wasn't in that deep. I forgot to mention Bisping's conditioning, yeah it did appear great. He went full bore for 9 minutes and looked like he had plenty left. Of course barely getting hit helps that but still.

Josh making it to the finals was a fluke, I thought he lost his decision in his first fight on TUF, and he was being dominated by Jesse until Jesse gassed. He certainly was not impressive at all. Basically he was lucky and had weak competition. As far as Herman/Kendall goes, both have a lot of potential. Herman really got gassed fighting through the various subs, if he can learn to avoid it will help a lot. Kudos to him for fighting through all of them but he was caught in a half dozen legit sub attempts.

Fun for it's fans is fine. Again, I compared it to Nip/Tuck for a reason. Nip/Tuck is so silly and melodramatic sometimes, but I still like it. But it's really a guilty pleasure type of show. As I said, Rescue Me is like The Man Show - it gives the target demographic what they want.

Since you are now at least trying to be somewhat rational I will continue. Here is what I mean by lazy writing: contrived characters and situations that are not true to reality, previous behavior, etc. I think you would have a hard time defending any of the female characters on the show, so I won't go into that. Instead let me go into things that have happened to Tommy: 1: Little girl is alive, 30 seconds later they are pulling a sheet over her head and Tommy is the only one who bothers to try to revive her. That scene did not ring true at all. 2: Tommy and the girl he duct tapes. First the girl is attracted to him for no good reason. He immediately is going down on her, which of course he is great at. (Because Tommy is god) Then he duct tapes her mouth shut. Now, really, wtf would happen if a guy some girl just met that night started to put duct tape over her face. (Let's not forget the recent case of a girl raped and killed recently with her face wrapped in duct tape) She would probably start freaking out and fighting. At the very least it's highly insulting and that would be the end of the sex. The scene is played for laughs, I get it. I did find it funny. But it doesn't ring true. It's very hard sometimes in fiction to tell an honest story, follow the natural progression of the characters, etc. These guys aren't even trying. As a joke it works but it's just cotton candy entertainment. 3: Tommy beats up his brother, his friends try to stop him then apparently lose interest, I went over this already. 4: After Tommy has put her lover's head through a car window (which could have killed him) and injured her arm pushing her, Tommy comes to his ex-wife's house totally unsupervised and they have a bland conversation about who gets the silverware. Again this scene does not ring true at all. He isn't immediately hit with a restraining order? Why would she even let the son of a bitch into the front door? Wouldn't they at least meet a neutral, safe setting like a lawyers office? All of these scenes establish Tommy as a bad-ass and are either cool or funny or shocking moments, but they don't really make any sense outside of contrived TV-land. The scenes are not believable nor do logical consequences ever occur. Again, if you like the show fine. I like Nip/Tuck and it's the same. All I'm saying is don't claim it's incredibly well scripted drama - it isn't. It isn't honest storytelling, it's very much TV. They know their audience and they go after it. Maybe the duct-tape girl had a rape fantasy too? At some point "all the characters are just THAT fucked up!" is a little silly, that's just another way of saying the show is contrived.

These were unpopular opinions? "Chyna should have never gotten a Playboy photo shoot" That's unpopular?
-
Damn Bisping is a beast. That was utter domination. Bisping threw out some crazy moves. Reverse rear naked choke? Reverse arm-bar into a kimura? I said it before and I'll say it again, easily the best standup out of any TUF fighter and maybe the best overall fighter. Really impressive. Efficient and deadly.

Are you just going to repeat that 100 times? That's your contribution? It's not lazy writing at all that Tommy's ex-wife just happens to have a rape fantasy that is awakened by his manliness? By the way, women who have rape fantasies don't find out they have them by being raped. Are you serious? Yes, maybe one in a million women enjoy their first rape. If that's all you have to add here please stop...or you can just keep repeating that one line over and over again like we are having a real discussion. Edit: I'm done talking to you, it's a waste of my time. I should have stopped already.

Jesus how do you score that? Herman did more damage overall I think but he was also in danger of getting subbed a few more times. Neither of these guys have any quit in them, either of them could have just given up and tapped a bunch of times. It's not just MMA, it's everything. Conspiracy everywhere. Kendall came close to finishing the fight more times. Ending the fight on your back getting choked doesn't look great for Herman either. I'm sure we'll see Herman again. Edit: Well, I guess I was right seeing as how they just gave him a contract.
-
I'm watching the replay, haven't read the thread yet, this is great so far. Right now I'm at the end of round 2 of Herman/Kendall. It looked like Kendall tapped to the triangle then changed his mind... The first fight was good, looked like Jardine's opponent just gassed really early. Both fights have been brutal so far. Herman has done a great job fighting out of some subs. (But a bad job getting into them in the first place)

I did argue the points. You didn't. That's how we got here. Scroll up buddy. And I already said the scene didn't offend me for women's rights reasons or anything like that. It offended me by being stupid and assuming I'm stupid. Your contribution has been 3 one-liners. I'm not the one arguing the points? Or did I miss the brilliant screed you wrote in invisible ink? Anyway I'd be interested in what someone vaguely articulate thinks. I certainly have more ammo for my side, but there is no point arguing with weak gimmick poster.

I've never seen any ECW before. Can someone explain what really made it different? I understand it was shot with a smaller, more rabid crowd that got into it a lot, and was shot in a more grainy, documentary style. Beyond that though, what made it extreme? I've seen people make comments about the battle royale being a WWE hardcore match instead of an ECW one, what does that mean? ECW had more technical wrestling? More brawling? More dangerous moves? More blood? More barbed wire? I'm having a hard time understanding how the overall feel was different from WWE or WCW.
-
It sounds like the Raw/ECW cross-promotion might not end after this PPV. It will ramp down slowly over time as ECW brings in more new/young guys that start to get over maybe...right now ECW is very much Raw and Friends, and looks to stay that way for a while.

Um...a lot. And the problem is not that Gordon lost this game, the problem is that Gordon is absolutely anti-clutch. I don't know if there is such a thing as clutch-hitting but Gordon proves that there is anti-clutch pitching. He's a guy with a WHIP of 1 and an ERA of 2 that you are deathly afraid to put in a game that matters. Pretty odd. From what I read he has awful nerves, in the ALCS he was throwing up in the bullpen.
-
Your gimmick is already tiresome. If you are going to be a moron gimmick poster at least come up with something funny.
-
Wow, Tom Gordon blew it again. Color me surprised. Exhibit A that common stats aren't always accurate. Plus the Phillies just plain sucked. Men on second and third, send the runner on third home on a grounder but don't send the runner at second? WTF? At least if the guy is out at home let the guy at second make it to third. And if the guy on second is taken out you still score a run in what was a tie game. The Phillies seem like one of those teams that always find a way to suck.

Isiah is horrible. Having the GM and the coach be the same guy is usually a very bad idea. On the surface it seems to make sense but it usually just doesn't work out because the GM needs to have a cold, hard, objective look at the roster without being too involved. Isiah has already shown himself entirely incapable of doing that, which will only get worse as a coach. He sees "athleticism" and "potential" in mediocre players, will constantly give them the benefit of the doubt, etc. He would be a better coach than GM but he's lousy at both, and is going to be even worse at doing both. Edit: Great players can have a hard time coaching, because they see a guy with talent and assume the guy will turn out the way they did. That's what happened with Jordan and Kwame Brown. (Even though Jordan technically wasn't the coach) He just couldn't understand how Kwame wasn't better than he was, because Jordan in that body would have been a lot better. They just assume the mental toughness, discipline, will, etc will materialize. That's why Isiah loves Marbury so much. Marbury theoretically could be another Isiah.

A rape fantasy is different than reality. Just because a woman has a wacky fantasy involving being raped by some stud doesn't mean the women actually would appreciate being raped in real life. Find a women with a rape fantasy, rape her and report back on how much she loved it... It was lame and utterly contrived. If you are going to defend it do better than that. That shit belongs in the romance novels that the lunch lady reads. I do demand at least a tiny bit of realism from my drama, not scenes and characters that are transparently contrived just to make Dennis look bad-ass. Men who rape their ex-wives end up in jail. And again, this wasn't a scene where there is some light-hearted bickering that leads to sex, it was him attacking her and her liking it because Dennis is just that good. If you like that that's fine, but it's silly dreck aimed squarely at their target demographic. You can like it in a "dude, that was awesome!" kind of way but let's not pretend it's great writing and drama. I like Nip/Tuck, but I fully admit that's dreck too. Another male fantasy show that brings the ridiculous, unbelievable melodrama. Sadly Rescue Me is a lot closer to Nip/Tuck than it is to The Shield. Being true to the characters and story is a lot different than feeding the audience whatever cotton candy garbage you think they want and will eat right up. The scene where Tommy beat up his brother was another scene that really didn't make any fucking sense. He beats him up, some guys try to stop him and hold him back, then they let him go and he beats him up some more, they hold him back again then apparently lose interest, he beats him up some more, etc etc. Even after he puts his head through a car window which can kill someone. It was just silly and contrived. It was another scene that was just Dennis ego-stroking. From a writing perspective it made no sense. If his friends are going to hold him back have them hold him back, or else don't bother. Maybe he can wriggle free and get in a last shot or two but not this "man we better stop Tommy - wait I'm bored never mind - no stop him again - wait what's that over there?" It was written like pro-wrestling where 12 security guards can't handle Matt Hardy.

The final scene was stupid and basically made me lose whatever respect I had for the show and it's writers. It was classic male power porn - rape fantasy, how original. He attacks her but of course she really likes it and is into it. No means yes. If you want that trash you should visit some usenet groups. There you can read all about girls that are raped by men whose cocks are so big that the women love it and turn into willing sex slaves. It was not an angry argument turns to sex angle. It was random rape that the woman enjoys and gets into. (Because that happens a lot, women love being randomly raped) This show is really vastly overrated, while it does have it's moments most of the characters are just gimmicks, the plots are contrived, and the entire thing appears to be an ego driven mindless male power fantasy. There isn't a single female on the show who is anything other than a complete joke. It's basically The Man Show with a more sophisticated presentation. And don't get me started on Dennis Leary's acting. It isn't acting when you play yourself. One of the reasons Michael Chiklis gets praise on The Shield is that he acts - he is totally different from his onscreen character. Leary just plays himself, and the show appears to be increasingly written simply as a vehicle for his ego. The show is better than most network TV crap but it's nothing to get all excited about either. The rape scene does not offend me in the sense that the rape itself is offensive - it just offends my brain and dramatic sensibilities. Let's turn one character into a flat plot device to show everyone what a giant cock Dennis has. He's so bad-ass he rapes someone and they ask for seconds. It's the stuff of bad romance novels, not quality dramatization.

Blah. let me add my 2 cents. For the record I'm 5'10'', 165-170 lbs, pretty cut, bench 240+, etc etc...I'm in shape. I'm not big and people usually guess I am in the 150 lbs range but I am dense. Diet: Eat a variety of stuff that isn't crap. It really is that simple. You don't need to go berserk on protein shakes or some shit like that end and end up with blimpy gym muscles. It's really pretty obvious what is healthy and what isn't. Vegatables, whole grains, some fruits, chicken and fish, etc. You don't have to try to get all crazy counting carbs or whatever - the key point is say no to shit you know is bad. No soda, no dessert, no empty calories. Reps and weight: High weight with low reps will make your muscles large and strong for short bursts but undefined. Low weight at high reps will make your muscles less strong but leaner, more enduring and more cut. I do pyramids, which is start at low weight high reps, work up doing less reps and more weight, then back down. For example do 15 reps of a bench press at 150 pounds, 12 at 180, 6 at 220, then back to 12 at 180. Abs: If you want abs you have to lose fat, period. Crunches don't help you lose fat any better than any other excersize, and large abs underneath far looks like more fat. If you want super-defined abs obviously you need to work them, but losing the fat is far more important. Muscle and weight loss: Muscles burn energy by being in a state of tension. Lean muscle will burn energy but all muscle will. (More than fat obviously) If you want to lose weight and look cut focus on more reps, less weight. Random other: The most important thing is stick with it. If your body is telling you to stop listen to it, but try to push yourself within reason. Free weights are MUCH MUCH better than machines. Anything you can do without a machine do without a machine. Machines are good at isolating muscles which is good if you are a body builder and bad if you are anyone else. There are other reasons to use machines (like safety, convenience, etc) but free weights are a much better workout. Free weights force you to use a lot of different muscles - stablizing muscles, the muscles you use to get the weights into position, etc. For example military press with two dumbells is a lot harder than miliary press with a bar, which is in turn much harder than a machine. Because with two dumbells you have to use both arms equally, have to get the weights into position, hold them there, etc.

The main event was pretty decent. By the way the clothesline Lashely did on Booker where Booker appeared to do a complete 360 flip in the air was pretty amazing. There was more wrestling on this SD than the last month of Raw.
-
WWE acts like Smackdown is the C show, but it is in fact the A show. It has veteran guys you can respect, good wrestling and a lot of it. Even things like the Leprechaun, which should be completely retarded, are actually done well. I mean I LIKE the Leprechaun! It's just so strange but it works. On Raw everything is so labored and overbaked. Smackdown is easily the best wrestling show on TV, by far.

Yeah, I agree. That's not murder or even negligence. She was a big girl who chose to do drugs.
-
What's strange here is that a sleeper-hold is far more effective than a choke. (A rear naked choke is actually a sleeper) It takes a LONG time to knock someone out with a choke, whereas a sleeper hold will take effect in the 5-10 second range.

Edge's dropkick in the middle of RVD's rolling thunder was pretty neat. What was the Kelly angle? She stripped and some guy made her leave? That's an angle? Wow this Scarecrow Slayer movie looks awful..

Wow, you guys are incredible whiners. About free-throw differential, does "shots in the paint" mean anything to you babies? Here's a hint: you get fouled more driving to the basket than making jump shots.
