Next time on Raw: Some actual wrestling! The highlight of the evening was the cheerleader with the straight dark hair wiggling her ass. The DX stuff was somewhat amusing, but it would have been a lot better if it HADN'T COME AFTER TWO HOURS OF OTHER LAME SKITS.

Wow, that spear might just have been strong enough to make an 8 year old girl stumble a bit.

Good god you people really think this shit is better than Smackdown? Smackdown is treated like the C show but it's the A show in reality - and it isn't even close. Has there been any actual wrestling on this show at all? It's all squash matches, run-ins, etc. This is fucking awful. All you guys who said the ECW show was the worst show ever - not even close. This show has gone for an hour and forty minutes and absolutely NOTHING has happened. Watching paint dry is a lot more exciting than this.

London and Kendrick rule. Always entertaining.

Don't talk about XFL unless you know the facts. Not many people know that VM tried to push XFL AWAY from wrestling and it was NBC, eager to capture that demographic, that kept trying to add more tie-ins with WWE. VM's vision of XFL was largely that of an alternative football league, it was NBC that wanted it to be an NFL/WWE crossover thing. Strange but true.

MMA Comments that Don't Warrant a Thread
randomguy replied to RavishingRickRudo's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
What they really need to change is the scoring to not reward takedowns that do nothing so much. -
Bisping is awesome. TUF 2 was crap. The challengers were awful and so were most of the challengers. The HWs were a joke. Half of them appeared to have absolutely zero skill, like we were back in UFC 1 and just being big was all some guys thought they needed.

Are we at the peak of the sport?
randomguy replied to RavishingRickRudo's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
In some ways the old UFC was a lot more interesting with big fat guys, wrestlers, boxers, pure karate guys, etc. That was a very different experience. In the future there will probably be less diversity but if you like athleticism it will be a lot more interesting. Guys will still have different styles though. Even if wrestling different guys have very distinct styles - the pure stength guy, the fast guy who specializes in double leg takedowns, etc etc. Another possibility is that martial arts like Karate, TKD, etc will train for contact and become more well-rounded and we will see more of those guys. -
JBL was good, but a little tiring, he needs to tone it down just a notch. Lashley/Booker was good, but why have Lashley win? Where does this go from here if a healthy Booker can't beat Lashley on one leg? I would have had Lashley make the catch and go for the running powerslam but his knee buckles and he falls over, then Booker hits him with the axe kick for the win. Lashley doesn't look weak since he knee was fucked up and the fued can continue.

Bisping looked great. His kicks and punches are so crisp. Looks like the best standup I've seen on TUF, by far. He also had the killer instinct, when his opponent was bent over he landed a couple more nasty knees. Very impressive the way he used hands, knees and kicks.

A lot of the ECW roster is old and broken down. It will take them a while to bring up and get over new guys, which is what they will have to do. In the long run other than a few notables I wouldn't expect the original ECW guys to do much.

I think you are seeing something that happens a lot more often recently - the worked shoot and the self-aware work. People know that wrestling is fake so characters and fueds not only rely on fake TV angles but also more real (but also fake) worked shoots, interviews, etc. It's sort of another layer of Kayfabe. It's like when movies come out actors in interviews will pretend to be similar to their characters. For example when Mr. and Mrs. Smith came out Angelina and Brad gave interviews about how they like to go to the firing range. Everyone knows Angy and Brad are NOT Mr. and Mrs. Smith but what they might not know is that the shooting range stuff is also bullshit. It happens all the time. A guy is in an extreme sports movie and talks about how he loves extreme sports, etc, etc. It's a way of staying one step ahead of the audience as the audience catches on.

I only saw the second half of the show and I thought it was ok. But now I understand that when I tuned in at 10:35 for the start of Angle/Credible that was the first actual match? Yeah that's weak.
-
Smackdown is far and away more entertaining than RAW. There are no long super-boring promos, the matches themselves are good, the comedy bits work, etc. King Booker has been great. Hell, even the leprechaun has been ok. Yes, I said it, the fucking leprechaun has been ok. Raw commits the unpardonable sin of just being boring.
-
Damn, I just posted that Goldust/Snitsky vs. Spirit Squad on Raw was great, then he gets released. Yeah, ship him to smackdown. Goldust was entertaining. Pretty soon Smackdown is going to have 3 people on it.

I only saw the second half. It was better than your typical RAW. I liked Kurt's match, the leg takedowns were great. Although his music was FUCKING AWFUL. The random girl stripping - I kept expecting someone to tackle her or something - what was the point of that? The battle royale was ok, so much for Show not jobbing any more. I missed the first half so I didn't understand what happened with Edge Cena etc. Edge is facing RVD for the title and Cena just has a blowoff match with Sabu? I was not impressed but it was good enough to watch next week. The crowd was awful, they didn't make noise for Angle even.

The first showing being taped is not a bad idea, just to work out the production side of things. In the OAO Raw thread I was going to point out (maybe I did, I forget) that the Sandman music thing was probably a money/legal issue. Obviously everyone in WWE knows the THE SANDMAN is probably best served by the music of the same name. Not even the WWE is dumb enough to say "hey, let's just randomly change the music for no reason at all!" Jumping to conclusions without knowing the facts is pretty lame, and a ton of people are guilty of that in this one. Business isn't always as straightforward as it appears. We only see what happens on the outside.

Where are KMFDM and Queensryche? Anyway: Iron Maiden vs. Iced Earth No brainer, Iced Earth is ok but nothing special. Sepultura vs. Megadeth Metallica is already here and they play a similar style to I count out Megadeth. Pantera vs. Dream Theater I've outed myself as a fan of wanking. Judas Priest vs. Helloween Judas Priest is of course the much more "important" band but I've never really liked them. Black Sabbath vs. In Flames No contest. Slayer vs. Ozzy Osbourne Again no contest, I'm surprised Ozzy is here at all. Metallica vs. Emperor No explanation needed. Motörhead vs. Anthrax Ditto

They've talked about bringing in more guys as well as MMA-style fighting. (!) I think whether or not anyone "has faith" at this point is kind of silly. Let's all just watch a couple of weeks and see. It's not worth losing any sleep over, in three months we'll all have a good idea if this is something interesting or just another version of Heat.

The best performances of this decade

I did the exact same thing. I was thinking last 10 years. George would win that hands down. -
Nobody mentioned Kim Wilde? You Keep Me Hanging On?

Heavy Metal Band Tournament: Nomination Thread
randomguy replied to AboveAverage484's topic in Music
Get a room you dorks. "My Mastadon is better than your Manson!" The problem with a thread like this is that inevitably a couple of small children come in and start arguing what is and is not metal. Didn't the thread starter even say don't worry about it, just nominate it if you think it fits? Although I agree almost 100% with Corey this is really a moronic discussion to be having. -
The match up on Heat between Spirit Squad and Snitsky/Goldust is really entertaining! I love Goldust and his akward robot wrestling style.

One of the problems with Foley/Flair is that it is so sudden, it's so transparently just a mini-fued for the next PPV just like Foley/Carlito. The entire fued is just "let's fight in two weeks!" Things are better with buildup. IMO the two best WWE moments in the last couple years were Edge winning the title and Batista turning on Evolution, because both those events were built up well. Foley/Flair is just so random - just a match to fill up a PPV.
