This has nothing to do with the game (well, in a way it does), but if you're trying to kill time, check this out. Example: Utah beat Wyoming who beat Tennessee who beat Vanderbilt who beat Mississippi who beat Florida. Interestingly enough, there's no victory chain from Utah to Oklahoma.

Actually, the Rams are last on running to the left end...the Chiefs are 1st (which is still kinda puzzling). Also, James Harrison won AP DPOY, receiving 22 of 50 votes. DeMarcus Ware finished 2nd with 13 votes. Not sure who was 3rd, 4th, and so on, but I would imagine that Ed Reed got his fair share of votes as well (Polamalu and/or Porter probably got a couple too).

Well...I don't like either team, but I'll say that Oklahoma takes this one (something like 38-31).

Lions' fans are beyond pissed (for obvious reasons) that Millen dared to show his face on TV, let alone give any football analysis.

Dodged another bullet as well with Weddle almost getting that pick.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the impact of Andre Smith being out for 'Bama. The outcome might not have been different, but I'm sure John Parker Wilson wouldn't have been running for his life every other play.

Can't argue with Peyton winning it, but it's kind of a letdown in some ways. Throughout the season, you could've made the case for Brees, Warner, Eli, Ryan, Turner, Peterson, Pennington, etc...even defensive players like Harrison and Haynesworth were in the mix. Instead, it ends up being same old boring Peyton Manning.

I'm sure you've had jungle juice before, right? A staple of many college parties right there.

In other news, it looks like the backlash against Brett Favre has made its way to the locker room. Link

Hey, I'm all for fixing the O-line, but Detroit needs as many defensive players as possible. Let's take a look... DT: Detroit's run D is awful. They traded away Shaun Rogers because of his supposed bad attitude and lack of effort. Problem is that they foolishly thought that filling his spot with undersized guys (Chuck "War Daddy" Darby for one) who played hard would work. Cory Redding is half player he was a couple years ago without Rogers being there to take on those double teams. DE: Cliff Avril and Dewayne White are good, but the Lions could use a more dominant pass rusher. MLB: Detroit has the worst LB unit in the league (even with Ernie Sims, who regressed this season), and it starts at MLB. Having Paris Lenon as the starter there is just shameful. OLB: Sims is one of the best players Detroit has, but he had a subpar year in '08, constantly overrunning plays and missing tackles. Ryan Nece and Alex Lewis both suck. CB: Leigh Bodden (the guy they traded Rogers for) was a bust for the most part this year. Maybe he'll play better in a defense that plays more man-to-man, but he may not get that chance because Detroit might not pay him that $8.6 mil option for '09. Brian Kelly looked great in the preseason, but when the real games began, he was toast. He started like 10 games and then got cut. The Lions will probably need two new starting corners for '09. S: Dwight Smith was yet another FA that failed spectacularly this season. Daniel Bullocks and Gerald Alexander are young players with promise, but they're inconsistent (plus Alexander was on IR most of the season). Bottom line is that the Lions are dead last in scoring defense, total defense, rush defense, and are 27th in pass defense (Opposing QB's had a total passer rating of 110.9). Detroit's defense gave up 517 points this season, which is the 2nd-worst total in NFL history. If the Lions can get a good FA QB to come in, I'd like to see them draft the best left tackle first, and then go defense with the rest of picks (with MLB, DT, and CB being the primary focuses). They can pick up a decent guard in free agency or maybe draft one late. The Lions also need a TE, a #2 WR, and a return man worth a damn, but there's just way too many holes to fill in one offseason.

Not to mention the guy running the ball on that play was a 6'4", 270-pound D-lineman. Looks like Iowa's on their way to getting the Big Ten's first (and maybe last) bowl win.

Any thoughts on who the Lions should take #1? I know it's really early in the whole draft process, but it appears that Matt Stafford is the favorite to go to the Lions at #1 with Andre Smith and Sam Bradford (although I don't see him coming out) as the next likeliest candidates. I know many will point to Atlanta and Matt Ryan, but this is a completely different situation. The Lions have an O-line that's given up around 50 sacks the past few years and (unlike say, Pittsburgh) doesn't run block well enough to make up for it. The defense was historically bad this season. Plus, I'm not completely sold on Stafford or Bradford. I wouldn't mind seeing the Lions take a left tackle first and use most of the remaining picks on defense. This thing is gonna take awhile to fix.

Yep, he definitely looked like death warmed over. *wonders how many people put him in the '09 death pool*

I stayed at home with the family as usual. I've never gone out for New Year's, and I don't anticipate that changing in future years.

2008 was average at best for me. School went well, volunteered for Obama, but that was about it for good things. A couple family members had cancer (one passed), I gained a ton of weight, didn't have much of a social life, etc...I don't see 2009 being all that great for me either, at least not through the first half or so. I'm set to finish college this year but my plans after that are muddy (not sure if grad school is in the cards for me or not). I also need to hit the gym and shed some serious pounds. At the very least, I want to move out of town this year.

While we're at it, what the hell is a frog ending? Is it related to a Dusty finish or something?
