I just got this set.Looks like some great stuff is on these discs. However, the wrestling quality improved dramatically from the 80s to the 90s.Very few if any of these matches would be able to crack the 90s top 20.I will rank them after I watch them all. Btw,I know the 90s have a top 20 but does anyone know if they listed the 100 nominations like the 80s list ?

I found these dvds being discussed on the dvdvr message board. They were voted as the best wwf matches of the 80s and put onto 8 dvds.I posted the matches along with a link to the site. Here is a list of what was voted in.Read and discuss. http://board.deathvalleydriver.com/index.php?showforum=4 DVD #1: 1.Adrian Adonis/Dick Murdoch vs Sgt. I think this set is worth having.I am surprised that some other matches didn't get on the list.Maybe they could have replaced some stuff with hart foundation vs killer bees 2/17/86 ken patera vs bob backland death match bob backland vs muraco hart foundation vs rockers 89 I'm sure another hart foundation/buldogs match could have made the list.Maybe they didn't want to have too many matches with the same team. Did they ever do a top 100 of the 90s ?I know there's a top 20 but how about a top 100.

10.Savage vs Roberts This may just be a personal favorite but this was the best work of jake's career. 9.Bret vs Shawn No explanation really needed imo. 8.Bret vs Owen Awesome storytelling with 2 great matches. 7.Hogan vs Orndorff Hogan was capable of drawing money with almost anyone at the time. His matches with mr. wonderful were pretty good. 6.HHH vs Rock Several year long fued and carried the ball in 2000 with austin out. 5.Hogan vs Piper The start oof the wrestling boom period. 4.Austin vs Bret My favorite fued that had 2 of the best matches in company history. The best double turn ever. The best work bret has done as the heel. And the match that launched the attitude era. Can't ask for more than that. 3.Hogan vs Savage A fued that had a year long build.I believe the highest rated wm to that point.Savage was hogan's best opponent. 2.Austin vs Vince Everyone tuned into raw every week just to see 10 minutes of an austin/vince confrontation. It produced some of the best segments ever on tv.They have tried to copy the formula ever since. 1.Hogan vs Andre /(dibiase) Well, all you have to say is wrestlemania 3 but I think this fued was at its best when ted dibiase was put in the fued. The main event had one of the best angles of all time imo.
-
I would like a 3 disc set of wrestlers who have passed on.It's a shame how many there are.
-
Star ratings are all opinions. For example,I give bret/austin from wm ***** for many reasons. It is also my favorite match.Does that mean it is set in stone as a 5 star match ?No,it just means that I think it is a 5 star match.Others I give ***** to are flair/steamboat clash of champions misawa/kobashi vs kawada/taue 6/9/95 hansen/kobashi 7/93 misawa vs kobashi 1/97 flair vs windham battle of the belts bret vs austin ss96 malenko vs guerrerro hostile city showdown foley vs hbk mind games btw, while benoit/angle from the rumble is the popular match in their series,I think their unforgiven 02 match is very underrated.
-
I don't see USC or TEXAS losing so it doesn't really matter who is #1 or #2.The team I feel sorry for is Va Tech. They will most likely go undefeated and be left out just like Auburn last year.Of course that is old news but it is still unfortunate for them.
-
No Ventura commentary means no buy from me.Normally I wouldn't care but for me to pay almost $300 for a box set,it has to be perfect.
-
I don't have either hhh dvds so I would buy it but it would have to have alot of his 2000 stuff.I would like to see this. vs The Rock SS 98 10 man tag Raw 1/00 vs Foley HIAC vs The Rock Ironman match vs Jericho Fully Loaded 00 vs Austin No Way Out 01 w/ Austin vs Benoit/Jericho Raw 5/01 vs Flair Raw ? vs HBK Raw 12/03 vs Benoit Raw ? vs Batista HIAC
-
Instead of the useless segment of firing JR,They just should of had Ross and Lawler announced it was thier last week on raw and introduced coach's new broadcast partner:Joey Styles.
-
WM13 was a bad ppv outside of hart/austin.I thought that match had some good exchanges on commentary. Vince:If bret hart loses this match, you have to wonder what he will come up with as an excuse, because he will have one. Austin gives bret a low blow and vince says "I'm not sure if that wasn't deserved." Austin puts bret in the sharpshooter and we get this exchange. Lawler:Wouldn't that be the greatest of all time. For bret to have to submit to the sharpshooter. Vince:Hey,It can happen.
-
How far will penn state drop in the polls ?I thought they had a good chance to win going into the game and we all know how that ended.A bunch of good games today with possibly two of the best games this year.
-
Flair/Arn vs Vader/Austin from wcwsn 11/93.That was an awesome match that went about 40 minutes.
-
What would really be cool is if there is a hidden easteregg of the bret/flair ironman match from 1/9/93.Who am I kidding ?That would NEVER happen.
-
Will there ever be a wwe released dvd that people don't complain about ? I like the matchlistings for the most part. There are only 3 matches left out that I really wanted on there. vs FLAIR (most likely shown in the feature) vs KID (wishful thinking, great match with no importance) vs AUUSTIN SS (possibly covered in the feature) Those were 3 great matches but its not like we are getting a bunch of bad matches.Other than the tag match vs nastys everything is good.Btw,am I the only one who thinks the bret-taker match is great and is a nice addition ?
-
It is still possibly that there will be another flair dvd in the future. At least I hope so. I didn't like the kotr 95 bret/lawler match but I did like the bret/doink followed by bret/lawler match from summerslam 93. Obviously there is more good stuff that could be included but the matches available are good choices.Bret had too many good matches to fit on a 3 disc set.I am satisfied with the selections. This will be my new favorite wwe dvd.It was the flair set but there are more matches here.
-
You CAN'T go wrong with this set.I think I have seen the tag matches with buldogs/bees and they are very good. The ONO match may have just been released on the taker set but I didn't buy it so I'm happy to see it included.Glad to see they don't have the ironman match vs michaels on here.I was hoping for his raw match vs the kid and the ss match vs austin but there is enough good stuff on here. The only match I'm surprised they didn't include was his title win over flair.

Warrior absolutely shreds WWE in Byte This reponse
slabinskia replied to Enigma's topic in The WWE Folder
I watched the warriar shoot interview and read this.Warriar makes a few good points but he comes across as being very crazy and some of his comments are so offensive that his good points seem meaningless. I don't remember warriar putting anyone over but he has 4 people to thank for puttig him over in big matches. 1988:Honky tonk man jobs the ic title to warriar in 30 seconds to begin the monster push. 1989:Rick Rude has a series of matches with warriar and makes him look like a decent worker. 1990:Hogan jobs clean(hogan rarely if ever did clean jobs back then) to warriar for the world title to make him look like a million bucks. 1991:After having a bad run with the belt,Randy Savage jobs to warriar in the best match he has ever had. BTW,Kevin Nash said in his shoot interview that vince wanted him to job to warriar in 96 before going to wcw. Nash responds:"I'll put him over if he can beat me in a shoot fight". Vince:I guess we can forget the warriar job then. That would have been fun to see. -
I liked it more before I had the internet.I didn't get the internet until 99 which is long after everyone else. This question was regarding wwf/e but I will go another direction. If you didn't have the internet in 1996 when the nwo first started,it was must see tv.Sure, everyone knew hall and nash were part of wcw and it was an invasion angle, but the question became, who else was going to jump from wwf to wcw to be part of the invasion ? With the internet, the nwo storyline would not have been anywhere near as exciting as it was.

Is Bischoff winning the title in two weeks?
slabinskia replied to CBright7831's topic in The WWE Folder
Instead of cena/bischoff and the old guys coming back,I would quicker take a one night tournament for the title. Its not the most creative thing to do but I think its better than this. -
On the flip side,What ppvs did you buy where you felt your money was well spent ?There were a bunch of ppvs I liked but didn't think they were worth the whole $30.Two exceptions that come to mind are Bash at the Beach 96 Wrestlemania 14
-
This is prabably a redundant thread but I thought I would post it since the product has been so boring the last few months. What are some of your favorite ecw moments ? I didn't get ecw on tv until early 96 so I won't post anything before that. When I first saw ecw I imediately thought it was the best wrestling on tv.I also noticed a bunch of ex wwf/wcw guys in the company and being much more interesting in ecw. Raven was by far the best character in the company imo.I thought his program with sandman was one of the highlights. Shane Douglas being censored in every other sentence in his promos seemed cool at the time.I don't remember why but I liked his short fued with scorpio. I marked out big time when rick rude showed up as the masked man.It seemed like a big deal that a former top guy like rude would go to a smaller fed. I also liked it when terry gordy showed up and was there for a little while. Taz choking everyone out in 2 minutes was also cool. The best moment was when dreamer beat raven and lawler showed up. What are some of your favorites ?
-
We can argue about HHH's negative points forever, but,I think he is the best heel they have had in a very long time.Of course he is stale, and has been stale for a long time.Everyone hates pretty much everything about HHH.It doesn't matter who he is against.People will cheer almost anyone going against HHH because they care more about HHH losing than the face winning. Having said that,I don't know what they should do with him.He is too much of a top guy to be in the midcard and too stale to be in the main event.
-
The only thing I remember about that ppv was the awesome angle/benoit match. Btw,while the angle/benoit match is one of my favorite wwe matches, their match from unforgiven 2002 doesn't get enough praise. It was the 2002 match of the year imo.

To be honest,I don't care enough about wrestling anymore to buy stuff like tna, roh, etc.I do however, like mid 90s all japan. Anyone who doesn't think they would get into puro, here is what I suggest. Get some tapes of matchs in japan that involve american wrestlers. When I first started watching puro I had someone send me matches including: hansen/kobashi 7/93 williams/kawada 4/94 flair/tsuruta williams/gordy-masawa/kawada rwtl 91 furnas/kroffat-kobashi/kikuchi vader/inoki 1/96 (new japan) After watching those and a few others I decided I wanted to see more matches with tsuruta, kawada, misawa, kobashi. Next I had got some matches of the above four and went from there.
