I think half of the guys in here weren't actually jobbers at all. Plus is it just me or does the vast majority of "wrestler from first decade of Wrestlemanias vs. wrestler from second decade" matches end with the newer guy winning? It is only a coincidence if the newer guy has won all the time as that wasn't my intention.As far as the battle royal goes,I figured "jobber battle royal" sounded better than "guys I couldn't find anything to do with battle royal".I know half aren't jobbers.Maybe it should be called the leftovers battle royal.I will post more tonight.

Any more thoughts ?ECW will be next in another week or so.Also,throw some matches out there that should make the ecw list to refresh my memory.

I was thinking of doing that list but I thought 50 moments can mean a wide variety of things and could get very complicated so I dropped the idea.

1. STEVE AUSTIN VS VINCE MCMAHAN This is possibly the most important feud of them all.When you think about the attitude era,you think about austin/mcmahan.They may be self parodys now but in 1998 they gave us some of the best tv of all time. Nobody ever really liked vince and just wanted a reason to boo him.I'm unsure of the exact timeline of this but it got interesting after austin broke his neck in his match against owen hart.Austin was the popular rebel through all of 97 going against what the wwf wanted and behind it all was vince.I remember on an episode of raw,austin was ranting about bret hart just before wm13 and we got this exchange. Vince: "Why hasn't president monsoon done something with you" Austin: "Why don't you do something about me.We all know your the one really pulling the strings here" Vince:"Why are you so bitter ?" Austin:"You treat me like a dog and you expect me to smile.You remind me of a jackass." It wasn't made public at that time but on several occasions austin would mention how vince was the real person in charge of the wwf. Ok,back to austins injury.With austin unable to wrestle,he was forced to forfeit the ic belt and the tag belts.He gave up the belts and gave sgt slaughter a stunner for it.Then on 9/22/97,Austin attacked owen in the ring.The cops ran in to arrest him since owen filed a restraining order.Vince got in the ring and called them off.Vince tried to reason with austin,saying that the wwf was trying to protect austin from getting injured again.Of course austin knew they were just looking out for themselves but appeared like he was going to listen and wait until he was cleared to wrestle.Austin said he appreciated that the wwf cared about his health.Then he gave vince his first stone cold stunner. Fast forward to the night after the dx ppv.Vince ordered austin to defend his ic title against the rock.Austin refused and said if vince didn't like it he could fire him.Funny moment as the rock quickly agreed and thought he should be fired also.Vince decided to strip austin of the ic title and give it to the rock. Fast forward again to the night after the royal rumble.Austin won the rumble and would face hbk at wm14.Vince had a big announcement about the match.He brought out mike tyson but before he could announce anything austin interrupted.We got the great austin/tyson confrontation which seemed to ruin vince's plans for wm.This pissed vince off royally.Then tyson joined dx and austin questioned if there was a conspiracy against him.So a few weeks before wm,vince was asked if he wanted austin to win the title.Vince's response was "OH HELL NOOOO." Austin did win the belt at wm and vince decided to give him a brand new belt the next night,hoping austin would settle down and me more of a corporate champ.Funny bit where vince tells austin that he loves him.Austin laughed and said that he loves vince too.Then austin said he was going to do things his way and if vince didn't like it then too bad.Then we got this exchange. Vince: "Well,we can do this the easy way or we can do this the hard way." Austin: "That's a very important decision.Can you tell me what the easy way and what the hard way is." Vince: "It's simple.The easy way is to adapt and be a model champion.The hard way,you are going to do it my way anyhow.You will be forced to do it.That's the hard way.And we don't even want to go there." Austin: "Like I said,That's an extremely important decision.Give me about 30 seconds to think it over." Austin decided to stun vince again and do things the hard way.Vince had him arrested and put in jail.The next week,vince introduced the new stone cold.He came out in a suit and tie.Austin said he knew he couldn't compete with vince and that he would now do things the easy way.Then he had a security guard take his picture.Then he told vince to get the film developed because he would never dress like that again and threw the clothes in the crowd. The next week may have been the most important.Austin called vince out to the ring and while I'm paraphrasing,this is how the conversation went. Austin: "I was wondering who my next opponent is since you haven't told me yet. Vince: "I haven't made up my mind yet.You'll know soon." Austin: "I can see by the way that you look at me vince,you don't like anything about me.You can't stand the fact that I like to drink a few beers.You can't stand the fact that I use colorful language.To you a proper wwf champ is someone with an ivy league education.It's someone that has a silver spoon in their mouth.It sounds to me like you want someone not just like yourself,but it sounds to me like you want to be the wwf champion.Is that right ?" Vince: "Where are you going with this ? Austin: You always talk about what a model wwf champ should be.Everytime you lay out a description it fits you to a tee.Do you want to be the wwf champion or not ?Let me make it more clear,we can do this the easy way or we can do this the hard way. Vince: Why don't you tell me what the easy way and what the hard way is.What's your definition ? Austin: The easy way is for you to hand pick a wwf official and fight me for the title.I'm giving you a chance to win it all.The truth is I can prabably beat you with one arm tied behind my back.If you don't want to do it the easy way,certainly we can do things the hard way. Vince: What's the hard way mr. austin ? Austin: The hard way is for me to handpick a wwf cameraman,go back to your office and beat your ass anyway.I'm going to give you 30 minutes to make a decision.I'm not going nowhere and if you think your going somewhere your wrong because your limo driver's been beat up and you have 4 flat tires. Austin then turned to the philly crowd and said "If you want to see austin and mcmahan give me a hell yea".To say the crowd went nuts is an understatement.This is also the night wwf won the monday night ratings after losing 80+ weeks in a row. Vince came out later and accepted the challenge.We got brisco/patterson giving him pointers on how to win.Then it came time for the match.Vince told austin to tie one hand behind his back since that's what he said.Austin agreed.Before the match could start,dude love interrupted to calm everyone down.The week before,cactus jack quit the wwf over the fans cheering for austin after a cactus/funk loss.So it was no more cactus and back to dude love. Vince slapped dude for getting involved and instead of attacking vince he attacked austin. The match was made between austin/dude for unforgiven.The match was pretty good but not something to go out of your way for.The important thing was at the end,vince was accidentally knocked out from a chairshot.Then on raw,foley threw his dude love clothes in the garbage saying he wasn't going to embarass himself again by dancing on stage with strippers.Vince talked him out of it and made him fight terry funk in a street fight.It was a good match for tv but pretty weak overall.Austin ran in at the end after being on commentary for the match.It was announced that dude love would get a rematch at over the edge.This time there would be guest ring announcer pat patterson.A guest time keeper gerald brisco.And most of all guest refferee vince mcmahan. The match was very good.We got the most hilarious intros from patterson except for introducing austin because he's a bum.The match has been copied from a million times.First vince changed the rules mid match by saying there was no countouts,then no dqs,then falls count anywhere.Vince was knocked out at the end so austin took his hand and counted 3. Since foley got 2 shots and failed,vince named kane #1 contender for kotr and said it would be a first blood match.Kane won the belt at kotr.The next night vince decided to present kane with the belt.Austin drove a stamboni to the ring and attacked everyone.He got a rematch for later in the night and won the belt back. Then for the rest of the summer they built to austin/taker for summerslam.Vince kept saying that undertaker and kane were back together though ut kept denying it.Austin won the match at summerslam.On a later episode of raw,vince called taker/kane a couple of pussies and when they went after him he made the match for breakdown where austin would defend against both of them.They both pinned austin at the same time.Then vince said at the following ppv austin would be special ref between the taker/kane title match and that he would fire austin if he didn't count 3 for someone.Austin knocked both guys out during the match and counted 3 for himself.After the match,vince told austin that he didn't count 3 for one of the wrestlers in the match.He then fired austin on the spot.This may or may not be when we got this classic line. Austin:You don't have the balls to fire stone cold. Vince: Balls,I have balls the size of grapefruits ! The next night vince decided to throw a party with austin gone.He had the entire roster in the ring to address them.He gave them this speech. "I hope none of you ever cross the boss.Because none of you are as big as vince mcmahan.All of the austin 3:16 t shirts and other merchandise is selling like hotcakes.Austin 3:16 is now a collector's item.There's going to be a new shirt that says Mcmahan 3:16.And McMahan 3:16 says,I've got the brass to fire your ass." Austin showed up to the arena armed with a gun.It led to a pretty funny episode with austin holding vince hostage all night.At the end he rolled vince out to the ring in his wheelchair.Of course it was only a toy gun but it was still pretty good tv for the time.Then austin showed vince to the audience and said that they should make a new t shirt saying "McMahan 3:16 says I just pissed my pants".Austin then put a letter in vince's pocket and gave him a stunner. The next week we find out that letter said that austin had been reinstated by vince's son shane.Austin would compete at survivor series in the title tournament.Somewhere along the way I forgot to add the episode where austin posed as a nurse and attacked vince in the hospital. Now onto survivor series.Austin is wrestling mankid in the semi finals.Mankind is who vince wants to win the tourny.During the match,vince jumps out of his wheelchair and knocks out the ref.Shane comes in to take over after vince made him a ref weeks prior.Shane flips off austin and refuses to count 3.Then after interference,shane counts austins shoulders and mankind advances to face the rock in the finals.In the finals,we get the previous ss finish when rock puts mankind in the sharpshooter and vince orders the timekeeper to ring the bell and awards rock the title.So it was one huge swerve against austin and mankind and the rock would be vinc'e corporate champ joining the corporation. Fast forward to the rumble.Vince pulled austins number and austin just happened to get #1.Hbk decided because of this that vince would be #2.Vince put a bounty on austin saying that anyone who could eliminate him would get $100,000.Of course it came down to austin and vince at the end after the worst rumble ever.The rock interfered which allowed vince to win the rumble. I might be wrong but I think this is how raw went the next night.Vince decided he wasn't going to take his wm title match.Shawn michaels said that since vince forfeited his shot it would go to the runner up which was austin.They then made a match for valentine's day massacre between austin/vince in a cage.The match was actually pretty fun and vince took a huge bump off the cage during the match.At the end,the big show debut and threw austin threw the cage,allowing him to win the match. That set the main event for wm15 between austin and the rock.The match was decent but nothing compared to the wm17 match.Austin won the belt and had a 15 minute celebration in the ring afterward.I am going to stop it here because while the austin/vince story continued,it got very silly and made no sense. Overall you can't go wrong with this feudIt was the best imo.Can I get some feedback on what you liked the most about the list and what you hated the most.No more lists for a little while.I will eventually do something though.

I cheated and looked at the video package on the wm3 dvd.I was only 4 years old when wm3 took place and it was when I first started watching wrestling.That is the reason I made some errors there and why my memory of hogan/orndorff is foggy at best.Strange thing though is that I have a pretty good memory of the angle to the main event which was only a year later.

2. HULK HOGAN VS ANDRE THE GIANT It drew a crowd that was unheard of at the time.It was the peak of the 80s wrestling boom period.Hogan drew money with everyone he was put against in the 80s but this was much more special.Hogan and Andre teamed up a bunch of times against members of the heenan family and andre was hogans best friend at the time.In janruary 87,hogan was presented a trophy for being champion for 3 years.(3 yrs is nothing compared to other reigns but this is hogan).Andre was there with hogan on pipers pit when he was accepting the trophy.Andre then walked off the set.Andre appeared on a future segment of pipers pit with new manager bobby heenan,the man he and hogan had been feuding with forever.He was there to challenge hogan for the belt.The story was that andre was never given a title shot and another story was created that he was undefeated for 15 years with no title shot.Hogan didn't want to fight andre so andre ripped hogans shirt off and walked off.On another episode of pipers pit,hogan finally accepted the challenge and the match was made for wrestlemania 3. While wm3 had a very good undercard,this match drew a record setting crowd on its own.Whether it is 93 thousand or 78 thousand I don't know.All I will say is that its one of the most impressive wrestling crowds ever. As for the match,it was not good or even an average match.It doesn't matter either.The fans went nuts for everything.Andre had lots of garbage thrown at him during his entrance.Hogan was met with an insane pop.They did the best they could in the ring considering hogans limited workrate and andres health.When hogan slammed andre at the end it got one of the loudest pops you will ever see. The feud took a break since andre couldn't work many matches by that point and why rush into a rematch when you could build it up and draw more money.They built to the first ever survivor series ppv which was a 5 on 5 elimination match with hogan and andre as the captains.The focus was that they hadn't been in the same ring since wrestlemania.The ppv drew a huge buyrate just off of that.The match was nothing special and they were only in the ring together for a minute or two but it did its job.Hogan was counted out and andre won the match. They built to the first ever main event show in febuary 88.It had one of the biggest angles of all time on that show.Now I must go on a side story to explain the angle at the main event. In the summer and fall of 87,they ran vignettes of the million dollar man ted dibiase.Then dibiase would pick people out of the crowd and offer them money if they could do certain things.The best was that he would pay a kid if he could dribble a basketball 10 times.The kid tried but couldn't do it."We didn't get to 10 now did we" is what dibiase told the kid.These segments quickly made dibiase one of the top 3 heels in the company with andre and htm.Dibiase then cut a promo saying he was going to buy the world title from hogan and gave his famous catchphrase "everybody's got a price for the million dollar man".Hogan obviously declined to sell dibiase the belt so dibiase alligned himself with andre.Andre promised dibiase that he would win the belt from hogan and then hand it over to dibiase. Now onto the match at the main event.They hyped this show to death.Anyone who was around back then would likely agree that this show had the feeling of a major ppv. wrestled a few minutes of a bad match.Then andre pinned hogan with help from the ref dave hebner.Hogan got his shoulder up but the ref counted to 3 anyway and awarded andre the title.If that sounds suspicious it is.Dibiase hired a look a like ref for the match.So there were twin refferees.Imo its still one of the best angles the wwf has ever done. Andre kept his word and gave the world title to dibiase.President jack tunney decided that you can't do that and that andre forfeited the title.The title would be held up and there would be a tournament at wrestlemania 4.Hogan and andre would recieve byes and meet in the second round. Another bad match at wm4 but this feud wasn't about workrate.Both guys got disqualified and eliminated from the tournament in their match.Hogan would help savage win the belt in the finals against dibiase. Then they built to a tag match at the first ever summerslam.It would be the megapowers against the megabucks.Another ppv that got a large buyrate because of hogan/andre.Hogan/savage won the tag match when special ref jesse ventura counted 3. That was pretty much the end of the feud.After all of that you would think it was my #1.Its close but imo,there is one better.

3. BRET HART VS STEVE AUSTIN For the record,this is my favorite feud and will be the most detailed.I will give the reason why this isn't #1 at the end. The feud that got things turned around for the wwf and got them back on the right track.After wm12,bret took 8 months off and contemplated leaving the wwf.During that time,steve austin ditched the ringmaster gimmick along with his manager and became stone cold steve austin.He won the 96 kotr where the austin 3:16 phrase originated.After kotr,he began taking shots at bret hart.He was going to be the next star and bret was the legend who went home.This slowly built over the summer.At the mind games ppv,there was an awesome in ring interview with austin,pilman and owen.Austin talked about how bret was afraid to come back and fight him.Then we got a classic exchange. Pilman:"Are you saying bret hart is a chicken ? " Austin: "Bret Hart doesn't even qualify as being a chicken.He's the slimy substance that comes out the south end of a chicken.Let me make it clear.If you put the letter s in front of hitman,you have my exact opinion of bret hart." Bret returned the day after the october ppv.He accepted austins challenge and the match was made for survivor series at msg.In the month leading up to survivor series,austin became more and more unpredictable.On an episode of superstars,he was interviewed by then best friend brian pilman.Pilman got a little too excited over bret and austin attacked him.Austin put a chair around pilmans already injured ankle and snapped his ankle.While that was a great austin moment,it was nothing compared to what happened a few weeks later.Pilman was going to be interviewed from his house to talk about what happened with austin.To prove a point to bret that he meant business,austin decided to go to pilmans house to interupt the interview.Pilman was ready for austin because he was armed with a handgun.This was major stuff and was considered to be way over the top for wwf programming. Have you noticed I mentioned a lot about austin and very little about bret.All of that gave austin momentum heading into survivor series and he began to get a cult following. On to the match.It was a true classic which I ranked #4 and could have even been ranked higher.Not much brawling but an awesome technical match.It was suppose to be bret's big return where he would decisivly defeat his opponent.It didn't work out that way.The match was layed out for austin to be brets equal.Even though bret won,it didn't give a clear cut picture of who was the better man.On top of that,the msg crowd which is known for cheering the heels,cheered on austin. Bret was still a very popular babyface going into the rumble but his role model image got a little boring with some of the audience.Meanwhile,austin continued to gain momentum heading into the rumble.Austin drew #5 and came out to a pretty good reaction which proved that his scattered cheers in msg was not an isolated incident.He steamroled through the rumble eliminating several guys and the cheers got louder with each elimination.Austin cleared the ring until bret entered leaving them the only two in the ring during the match.With only a few people left in the match,bret eliminated austin.However,the refs were breaking up a fight and didn't see it.Austin snuck back in the ring and eliminated bret and won the rumble. The next night bret complained about austin costing him a shot at the title so bret gives a speech saying that he quits the wwf.If the reactions toward the two were mixed before,they were even more mixed reactions now. What I love about the feud to this point is this.Bret was the squeaky clean babyface.Austin was the badass heel.Austin would interfere in all of brets matches and cost him important matches.Despite those things,alot of people cheered the heel austin anyway.The fans would boo brets complaining about austins interference.All of brets complaints were valid but the crowd didn't want to hear it.Bret grew increasingly frustrated over this but there was nothing he could do. After bret quit over the rumble match,a 4 corners match was made for #1 contender for the next ppv to make him happy.Because hbk forfeited the title before the ppv,the match would be to crown a new champ.Bret won the match and the title.Problem was he had to defend it the next night against sid.He lost the belt to sid so his reign only lasted 24hrs. The match was made for wm and it was an i quit match.Austin claimed he didn't know any submissions but he would beat the hell out of bret until he quit.(we know that is bs about not knowing submissions but it went with his character).Then a week before wm is when things really changed.Bret got a title rematch with sid in a cage.During the match,there was constant interference from austin and undertaker.Undertaker slammed the cage door on bret and sid won the match.After the match,vince went into the ring to interview bret who had been "screwed" out of another title match.We got this awesome exchange. Vince:Bret,you must be frustrated over what has just happened. Bret shoves vince down and gives this rant. "Frustrated isn't a goddamn word for it.This is bullshit.You've screwed me.Everybody's screwed me.And nobody does a goddamn thing about it.Nobody in the building cares.Nobody in the dressing room cares.So much goddamn injustice around here,I've had it up to here.Everybody keeps turning the blind eye.You keep turning the blind eye.I've got that gorilla monsoon.He turns the blind eye.Everybody in that goddamn dressing room knows that I'm the best there is.the best there was and the best there ever will be.And if you don't like it tough shit." A huge brawl started between bret/austin/sid/taker to end the show. So then came wm.The match is one of the most universally loved matches out there.My personal favorite.Not just from the wwf but my favorite wrestling match period.The crowd seemed split 50/50 at the start.Half way through the match,austin was busted open and was gushing blood.The crowd really started leaning austins way then.Bret put on the sharpshooter and austin was in the hold for several minutes.We get the classic shot of austin wearing the crimson mask.He doesn't quit but he passes out and bret wins the match. Afterwards,bret starts to attack austin and shamrock throws him off which gets a huge pop from the crowd.Bret leaves to boos and garbage being thrown at him.Austin leaves limping and dripping blood with the crowd chanting his name. That imo was the greatest double turn of all time. The next night,bret cuts the best promo of his life talking about how america turned their backs on him.Another match was signed for the two at the next ppv.During that time,austin challenges bret to a street fight on raw.Bret says he's finished with austin.Austin replies by saying "You'll have to kill me to be finished with me."How true those words were.Bret accepts the challenge for the street fight and when it's over he is taken out in an ambulance.Not so fast because austin gets rid of the driver and beats up bret while being strapped to the bed in another classic moment.The rematch at the ppv was a pretty good match even though it gets no credit for obvious reasons.Austin would continue to feud with the reunited hart foundation for the rest of the year. After all of that explanation,you may be wondering why this isn't my #1.There were two wrestling boom periods.Not counting hogan/piper which was a year too early to be included,there were two feuds that defined those periods.The historical signifigance alone is enough for them to be ahead of bret austin imo.

Perhaps I missed the boat on austin/rock.I always looked at rock/austin 2001 to be like hogan/warrior 1990.The top 2 babyfaces going at it at wm.I don't remember austin/rock really having a feud before wm17.I thought they just built it as the top 2 faces going against each other and that that idea would sell itself.Maybe I am wrong.I should have moved it up a few spots but I never considered it a top 5 feud. Even though I haven't listed the top 3 yet,give some thoughts on what should have been left out of the top 10 and what should have been in the top 10.

4. HULK HOGAN VS RANDY SAVAGE As if this wouldn't make the top 5.This was back when vince was still able to book his main events a year in advance.Hogan and savage had some matches in 86 which were very good by hogans standards.The backstory to this feud started in october 87.During the savage/htm match that I already covered,htm shoved liz down and gave savage an awesome guitar shot.Liz ran to the dressing room and brought out hogan.Hogan cleaned house and we got the hanshake.This would happen several more times.Savage would get in trouble and liz would go get hogan.They formed the megapowers.At wrestlemania 4,savage was in his 4th match of the night and was struggling against dibiase because of interference from andre.Of course liz brought out hogan.Hogan helped savage win the match and his first world title. Savage would go on to defend his title the next few months while hogan took time off.When hogan returned he obviously got much better responses from the crowd which made savage jealous.A match was set for summerslam between the megapowers and the megabucks which the megapowers won.Then there was the survivor series match.During the match,hogan was handcuffed to the ringpost while savage had to continue the match alone.Liz got the keys off of slick and uncuffed hogan.Hogan would get the hot tag and win the match.Even though savage/hogan won the match,savage seemed paranoid over hogan/liz.Savage always played the paranoid psychotic to perfection. Where things fell apart was at the second annual main event show where the megapowers went against the twin towers.During the match,savage is thrown into elizabeth and she is knocked out.Hogan carries liz to the back while savage is left fighting both of the twin towers.They spend a long time with hogan taking care of liz in the back.Hogan does eventually return to the ring but savage doesn't want to tag him.Instead,savage slaps hogan in the face and walks off.Hogan does win the match because its hogan and he has to win. Once hogan goes back to the dressing room,savage goes nuts saying that hogan was trying to steal elizabeth away from him and was trying to take his title from him.Hogan denies the accusations so savage hits him with the title belt and pushes elizabeth out of the way. THAT is how you build to a title match.I bet vince wished he booked wrestlemania in a larger arena instead of trump plazza.I have no doubt they would have sold out another 60 thousand seat arena again. On to wrestlemania.The match was pretty standard hogan stuff.Hogan wins the belt back obviously. After wm savage got a new valet in sherri and teamed up with zeus.For how ridiculous it was,it still drew money and they built to a tag match at summerslam with hogan/beefcake vs savage/zeus.Then to a special called no holds barred where they had another tag match in a cage.I guess the feud officially came to an end at the 3rd main event in 2/90.Obviously hogan won that too.While bringing zeus into the fold brought it down a bit,this was clearly one of the most important feuds of all time.

You've got me on the hogan/orndorff writeup.For whatever reason,I'm drawing a blank on much of their feud.That is why I didn't give much detail.As far as bret/shawn goes,if anything I would switch that and hogan/orndorff because of the money drawing factor but thats it.I won't give the rest until tomorrow because they will all be very detailed..I can't see anyone arguing the top 4 other than the order of them.I wish I could give all 4 the #1 spot because of how great they are but that wouldn't be any fun.

7. HHH VS THE ROCK I talked about how the rock evolved during his feuds with austin.This may be a better example of both guys evoving over the years.The rock debut as rocky maivia at survivor series 96 and hhh was on the opposing team.You never would have thought both guys would be main eventers a few years later.They wrestled each other a million times.They had a good feud in 98 where they represented dx and the nation of domination.The high point of that feud was a ladder match for the ic title at summerslam 98.It was a very good match for the time,though it doesn't really hold up today.You could tell from that match that both guys would be elevated to main event status.A year later,the rock had already had the world title and headlined wm and hhh would win his first title the night after summerslam. Once hhh beat foley at the rumble,he was over as the main event heel.The rock was clearly the top face.With austin out for a year you would think business would decline.Instead,with these two in the main event,it was the best year for the wwf. It was all set for wrestlemania with rock challenging hhh but then they did something stupid.They added big show and for no reason foley to the match.The match was better than most people say.It gets negative reviews for one reason imo.HHH won the match.That was unheard of for the heel champion to win the main event at wrestlemania.Prabably a bad move but I think it got him more over.A rematch was set for backlash.The match was booked the right way this time as the rock won the belt in another good match between the two.They would headline a third ppv in a row and there best match together by far.An ironman match that was way better than anyone expected.HHH won the belt back in a controversial finish.The rock won the belt back again at kotr in a 6 man tag match.They would continue to feud off and on again for a while but I think I covered most of it. 6. HULK HOGAN VS PAUL ORNDORFF This feud had so much heat that they could have headlined wrestlemania.Orndorff was one of hogans best opponents.Everything hogan was involved in at the time drew tons of money but this was one of his best.The wwf had a house show planned for august 86 in canada.It drew 64,000 people.Because of the attendence they later named the show the big event.The match was nothing special but it didn't matter.They had another match on snme where it was a cage match.A pretty famous match for the time.Both guys hit the floor at the same time and they had to restart the match.I think it was the first time that was done in a cage match before.The feud pretty much ended there because hogan went on to a much bigger feud.I wonder how much wm3 would have drawn if they went with hogan/orndorff. 5. BRET HART VS SHAWN MICHAELS Everyone knows the story here.These two had been in matches against each other since they were still in tag matches.While their tag matches against each other didn't give us any great matches,most of there singles matches were good/great.One that I shortchanged was their match at survivor series 92.Bret had just won the world title and hbk had just won the ic title.The match is very underrated.Obviously the feud got much more important in 96.They were set for wm12 in the first televised ironman match.Everyone knew hbk was going over so they added the ironman stip to give some doubt.The match was great but I think the lack of falls hurt it a bit.Since there were no falls in the match,it went to overtime.Bret was not happy about that since there was no mention of overtime before the match started.2 minutes into overtime,hbk won the match. Shawn would go on to have a lackluster title reign.Bret decided to take time off and went home for 8 months.When bret came back he was involved in a feud with austin but would still throw little shots at michaels.Whether or not its true,the idea was that bret/shawn would headline wm13.Shawn faked an injury just before the final four ppv and forfeited the title.This was the famous "lost my smile" speech.Bret who had been playing tweener for a few weeks,turned heel for good the night after wm.He decided that it was him vs america.Bret did some of his best work in 97 because imo,he came across as being very realistic.On an episode of raw,bret decided he would call out hbk while he was in his wheelchair.He sent the hartfoundation back to the locker room.So shawn comes out and bret cuts a bitter promo pointing out everything he thinks is wrong with hbk.Raw went off the air while he was talking which caused real problems behind the scenes.Anyway,hbk superkicked bret out of his wheelchair and the hartfoundation chased him off.A match was planned for kotr but was scrapped because of brets injury. Fast forward now to summerslam.Bret wins the title from undertaker because of hbks chairshot.Even though bret was now champ,it led to a great hbk/taker feud that would headline the shows for the next two months.Hbk was named #1 contender after winning the hiac match.It was set for survivor series in canada.Since I was basically living in a cave in 97(I didn't have the internet),I didn't know bret was leaving for wcw.With that in mind,I thought they did a great job leading up to the ppv.I had no idea who would win the match.Apparently,neither did anyone else,including the two in the match.We all know what happened here so I don't see the point in bringing it up again.Anyway,I think this was top 5 material.

I appreciate all of the comments.After looking over my list,I must admit that it has really fallen apart.However,it is too late for a do over.Some of the high choices I still agree with like savage/htm but some I also agree are ridiculously high (dibiase/virgil).I don't know what list I am going to do next but it won't be for a while as I will put more thought into it. Btw,for the person who guessed what the last 7 were,I have said several times that hogan/piper took place prior to 1986 so that would not be included. Anyway,what are some of the choices that everyone does agree with ?

10. RIC FLAIR VS RANDY SAVAGE This started when flair told savage that elizabeth was with him long before she was with savage.He had pictures made showing elizabeth with him.Obviously that drove savage crazy since he was a control freak when it came to her.The match was awesome and made my top 10.Flair promised to show a centerfold of liz for the entire arena to see.Unfortunately,he didn't.After the match flair started screaming at liz and savage snapped and a post match brawl started.I will add that both guys gave awesome post match interviews and made everyone want to see a rematch right after intermission.We didn't get the rematch for months unfortunately.Flair won the title back in september.This one had a great start to the feud and a bad ending.OK,I'll admit,I don't know what I was thinking when I put this at #10. 9. STEVE AUSTIN VS SHAWN MICHAELS This was all about austins journey to the world title and it was suppose to be hbks last match.While the wwf had been gaining momentum for a few months,this put them back in the mainstream.The night after the rumble,Vince introduced guest ref mike tyson.Austin was not impressed so he came out to confront tyson.Imo,that was one of the most important moments in wwf history. A few weeks later,michaels decided he was going to challenge tyson as well.When the time came he ripped tysons shirt off to show him wearing a dx shirt.Everyone knew austin was walking out of wrestlemania with the belt but it didn't matter because everyone wanted to see it.Wm 14 got a huge buyrate mostly because of this match.As far as the match goes,it wasn't bad for two crippled guys who shouldn't have been wrestling. 8. BRET HART VS OWEN HART This started when owen was the only hart member eliminated at survivor series 93.He then started complaining about bret being jelous and trying to hold him down.They did get back together though and challenged for the tag belts at rumble 94.Bret injured his leg in the match and couldn't continue.After the match,owen threw a tantrum in the ring telling bret he should have tagged him in.Bret was trying to get up so owen kicked him in the leg to knock him back down.Own proved to be a great heel.The match was set for wrestlemania even though bret didn't want to fight family.Owen won the match which was crucial to this feud.It made owen a legit contender.As we know,the match was one of the best in company history.Bret won the belt later in the night.Everyone came out to congratulate him except for owen. Fast forward to kotr.Bret is defending his belt against deisel.During the match,neidhart comes in and gets bret dq'd.This was neidharts return to the wwf.Later in the night,owen was in the kotr finals against ramon.Neidhart comes in and nails razor and owen gets the win.So now owen is king of the ring.Owen decides that he will now be called the king of harts.That got him a title shot at bret at summerslam in a cage.Another great match between the two.Davey boy smith is in the audience with the rest of the hart family.After the match,owen and the anvil give bret a post match beat down.Everyone from the hart family tries to climb the cage to help bret.Owen and neidhart fight them all off. Fast forward now to survivor series.Bret is defending his belt against backlund.Both guys have davey boy and owen in their corners to be the towel men.After 30 minutes of a great match,backlund gets bret in the chickenwing.Bret is in the hold a long time.Davey boy was knocked out earlier in the match so there is no one to throw the towel in.Owen looks like he is worried about bret so he tries to get his parents to throw the towel in to end the match.It worked and the mother throws in the towel.Bret loses the belt.Owen runs off with the towel cheering because he tricked everyone.Owen was awesome here and got even more heel heat.This feud never had an official end unless you want to count when bret got the hart foundation back together.I don't think anyone will argue this one.It deserves it's place in the top 10

15. RANDY SAVAGE VS HONKY TONK MAN This feud had so much heat that it could have been the co main event for wrestlemania.Savage had better things ahead however,so it ended early.After winning the ic title from steamboat,honky talked about being the greatest ic champ ever.Savage did not agree with him.While that is what started the feud,the big angle for this was on snme.Savage got a shot at honky for the ic title.Savage won by dq.The match wasn't anything special but what followed is the important thing.Post match beatdown by honky and the hart foundation.Honky wants to nail savage with the guitar.Elizabeth gets in front of savage to prevent it.Honky decides to throw elizabeth out of the way and nail savage with the guitar anyway.This was major stuff for the time.Anyone who saw this at the time knows what I mean.While the heels pound on savage,elizabeth runs to the dressing room and brings out hogan.Hogan of course cleans house and saves savage.Then we get the famous handshake.The feud would continueSavage would get his rematch at the main event show.We all know the story here.Savage wins by dq even though he was suppose to win the belt.It worked out better that he didn't win the belt but we will get to that later. 14. STEVE AUSTIN VS OWEN HART This one got interesting after canadian stampede even though austin was feuding with the entire hart foundation just for being associated with bret.Every member of the hart foundation save neidhart would be in a match at summerslam.They all added stipulations to their matches.Austin decided his match with owen would be a kiss my ass match.This was before vince made his own club.Anything involving austin and the hart foundation in 97 was gold.When it comes to the match,it was decent but that is not the story.Austin suffers nearly a career ending neck injury and is paralyzed during the match.He wins the match and the ic belt anyway.Even though austin couldn't wrestle after that,things got really interesting because of it.They showed interviews with austin where he became bitter over being crippled by owen and he decided that even though he couldn't wrestle,he would interfere in all of owens matches.Btw,all of those get well cards had the same handwriting on them.Those were classic.Anyway,austin had to forfeit the ic and tag titles.He also would take out his frustrations by stunning jim ross,lawler,slaughter,and yes,vince mcmahan.Owen won the ic title in a tournament.He also had his own knew tshirt saying "Owen 3:16 says I just broke your neck".He also got the riot squad to protect him from austin.It didn't work obviously.Austin would get his shot at owen and the ic title at survivor series but not before signing a waiver in case he further injures himself.He signed the waiver and then gave vince his first ever stunner.We will talk more about that later.Austin beat owen for the belt in a 4 minute squash match.Since he really couldn't wrestle,it was about the only way they could book it.Classic feud. 13. THE UNDERTAKER VS MANKIND When mankind entered the wwf he immediately started feuding with undertaker.He also beat him several times earning instant credibility.They feuded off and on for 2+ years.Even paul bearer turned heel and sided with mankind.Their matches were hit and miss.They had tons.Obviously,the most famous was the hiac match that will always be remembered.Foley got over so quickly in this feud that he got a world title match within 6 months of entering the company.He would have gotten over anyway but undertaker got him over automatically. 12. RANDY SAVAGE VS JAKE ROBERTS This started when the newly turned heel jake crashed savage and elizabeths wedding reception.This was jake at his best.Savage was in retirement after his wm loss to the warrior.It didn't stop jake from getting savage to interfere in one of his matches on superstars.Jake had a plan though.Jake got the upperhand in the fight and tied savage in the ropes.Then in what was a shocking angle for the time,had his snake biting savage while he was in the ropes.That may sound like a comedy angle now but it was very serious stuff in 91.Roddy piper went down to help and jake left.Then elizabeth ran out.Then they brought out the stretcher.Vince was on commentary talking about it being a poisonous snake and about how much trouble savage was in because of it."This is not suppose to happen" is what vince kept saying.Savage was kept off the survivor series ppv and jake was off it too to make it even.They made a match for the following week on the tuesday in texas ppv.The match was short but effective.It was a decent brawl but the important thing was after the match.Jake was giving savage a post match beat down when elizabeth got in the way.Sound familiar ? Jake decided to take it one step further than honky did in previous years.He hit elizabeth in the face.It was the weakest punch you could possibly throw but it didn't matter.You wouldn't think jake could get more over as a heel after the snake incident but he did after that.I was surprised they didn't have the blowoff to this at wrestlemania because it was a big enough feud with tons of heat. 11. HHH VS MICK FOLEY This started all the way back in 97 when they met in the kotr finals.Hhh would have matches against mankind,dude love and cactus jack that year.The last being the most famous.On an episode of raw,foley debut his cactus jack persona and had a street fight with hhh.Fast forward now to the start of 2000.Foley brings back cactus jack to challenge hhh for the belt at the rumble in a street fight.It is a favorite of mine.They put on a very wild brawl and got hhh over as a credible champ in the process.Fans weren't really buying into hhh before this.He was a legit main eventer afterwards.It also started hhh's reign at the top of the company.Hhh won the street fight so they would have a rematch.Title vs career in a hiac match.The hiac match was not too shabby either though I think it is a notch below the street fight.Hhh won that match too.He put one of the top babyfaces into retirement.Unfortunately foley came back for wm in a meaningless return.It didn't matter.The goal was to get hhh over as a top guy and it was successful.

20. BRET HART VS JERRY LAWLER It's a shame people are going to remember lawler for his awful announcing on raw the last few years.He used to be a great heel.He made his impression quickly when he attacked bret hart at kotr 93.These two feuded off and on for years.While they didn't produce great matches,their feud always had heat.I did like the summerslam match even though half of it was against doink. 19. SHAWN MICHAELS VS THE UNDERTAKER The best heel work of hbk's career.This started when he cost undertaker the belt at summerslam.Of course it was suppose to be an accident but shawn turned heel right afterwards.This feud was important for several reasons.It started the dx faction.It gave us the first hell in a cell match.And it almost signaled the end of shawn michaels career.Lets backtrack quickly.After summerslam,hbk formed dx with hhh,chyna,and briefly rick rude.It wasn't called degeneration x from the start but it is when the faction formed.It led to a good match at iyh the next month.A good match that is almost totally forgotten about.Because of interference from dx,they planned a rematch in the first hell in a cell match.After the hiac match,cage matches were popular again.It showed how patchetic the cages with the blue bars were.It would end at the royal rumble in a casket match.The casket match was decent but is remembered for a different reason.In the match,hbk hurt his back legit and almost had to retire.He didn't wrestle again for 4 years and it was a question if he could wrestle again at all.This was a feud to remember. 18. STEVE AUSTIN VS THE ROCK This originally started back in 97.Austin was back from his neck injury and the rock had just turned heel.We got a cool moment of austin throwing the ic title in the river.At this point austin was barely able to wrestle because of injury and the rock was not even close to being a good wrestler yet.Still,everything austin did around this time was gold. Fast forward to 1999.The rock was the champion and austin was challenging for the belt at wrestlemania.The matches this time were much better than 97 but the rock was still improving and austin was still limited in the ring.What had changed was the rock was incredibly over as a heel and his charisma had grown leaps and bounds since their 97 feud. Fast forward again to 2001.Austin is in the best wrestling shape since before his injury.Because he took a year off,his popularity was once again at its peak,after getting stale in mid 99.The rock had improved to the point of being a very good worker and his charisma was unmatched at this point.As far as the most over babyface in the company went,Austin and Rock were 1 and 1a.One unique thing was they got over the importance of the match in a sit down interview with the two.As far as the match goes,it was my #3 match which says it all.I think this feud shows how both wrestlers,especially the rock,evolved over the years. 17. MANKIND VS THE ROCK The feud that made the rock a main eventer.It was also when foley was elevated to main event status.It started at survivor series where both made the finals of the title tournament.The rock turned heel and won the belt.The rock became incredible over as a heel in this feud.Foley went from being comedy babyface to serious main eventer.A huge mark out moment was when foley beat rock for the belt on the first raw of 1999.It doesn't seem like a big deal now,but at the time,nobody thought they would ever see mankind win the world title.It led to an i quit match at the royal rumble.We all know what happened in this match.Foley took a bunch of the stiffest chairshots you will ever see.The rock won the belt back when foley was passed out and they played a recording to make it look like he was quitting.They had another match on heat during halftime of the superbowl that year.It drew a monster rating which showed how much people cared about the feud. 16. TED DIBIASE VS VIRGIL One of my favorites.Dibiase always treated virgil like his slave and nobody cared.It went on for years.Virgil would interfere in dibiase's matches and then get beat up by the babyface.He was like dibiase's whipping boy.Because this went on for so long,the payoff seemed that much greater.In 1990,while feuding with the rhodes family,they pushed the fact that virgil was being embarassed even more.At the 91 rumble,there was a tag match with dibiase/virgil vs the rhodes family.After the match,dibiase wanted to make an example out of virgil yet again.He ordered virgil to put the million dollar belt around his waist.Instead,virgil nailed him with the belt and left.While they had a forgetable match at wrestlemania,they had a good match at summerslam where dibiase put the million dollar belt on the line.Dibiase controlled much of the match.At one point sherri got involved and they decided to let the match continue instead of dq dibiase.Virgil won the match and the belt.Of course he lost it back a few months later but this was the highlight of a great feud.

What does everyone think of the list so far ?

25. ULTIMATE WARRIOR VS RANDY SAVAGE The best match of warriors career and it is miles ahead of anything else he's done.Savage always saved his best stuff for ppv.This started when sherri begged warrior to give savage a title shot.Warrior obviously declined.In return,savage interfered in the warrior/slaughter match later in the night and cost warrior the title.It setup a career vs career match that remains one of my favorites even if it's not technically one of the best wrestling matches out there. They got over the career stipulation right from the start.Warrior walked to the ring instead of bolting down the isle to save energy.Savage gave his signature elbow drop 5 times.It didn't work.Warrior gave 3 of his shoulder tackles.That won him the match.What happened after the match is a pretty big moment also.Sherri started kicking savage for losing the match and elizabeth jumped out of the audience to stop her.Savage and liz reunited in what was a memorable wrestlemania moment. 24. RANDY SAVAGE VS RICKY STEAMBOAT While everyone knows about the wm3 classic,they had a bunch of good matches leading up to the ppv.This was setup when savage gave steamboat a double axe handle on the floor,injuring steamboats throat.Steamboat would be out for a while but returned to challenge for the title at wm3.In his shoot interview,steamboat said that while hogan/andre sold the show,he and savage planned to steal the show.They did just that.A match that still holds up today and I can't imagine how great this seemed at the time. 23. UNDERTAKER VS KANE This had a really slow build.Paul Bearer had been threatening the undertaker for months that he was going to tell everyone about the undertakers secret.If nothing else,it was an interesting storyline.Kane made his debut at bad blood after the undertaker had a 30 match with hbk at the first hiac match.It was then a slow build towards wrestlemania 14.The match wasn't any good but I liked the build up to the match. 22. HHH VS KURT ANGLE If this had the right payoff,this would be higher on the list.After 2 years of crash tv,this feud had such a slow build towards the match.It was always subtle things like stephanie flirting with angle and hhh getting jelous but not doing anything about it.Both guys were also heels at the time and it's very tough to get a crowd into a feud involving two heels.The guys sided with hhh while the women mostly sided with angle.On a side note,I will mention how funny it was when they played angle crying at the olympics and hhh/foley questioning which team angle plays for.Both guys were on top of their games wrestling wise that year as well.It should have been a motyc.Imo,it also should have led to stephanie siding with angle.Instead,it was a bad match at unforgiven and hhh kept stephanie.I thought they had an underrated match at rumble 01 but by then the heat was gone. 21. CHRIS BENOIT VS KURT ANGLE Fans usually care about storylines and great matches is an added bonus.With these two,the storyline was usually about having great matches and who was the better wrestler.It got over and the crowd always got into their matches.They wrestled each other a bunch of times since 2000 but I liked it the most when they were teaming during the sd6 era.They would have a contest of who could out wrestle the other team better.Great stuff.Of course the biggest moment was when benoit challenged angle for the belt at rumble 03.They made everyone believe benoit had a chance of winning even though that was never the plan.A match that I am proud to say made my top 10.

30 HULK HOGAN VS BIG BOSSMAN This was meant to be in the bottom 5 but I forgot about it so ignore the placement.With that in mind,this was above average for a hogan feud.After being on opposing sides at survivor series 88,hogan was eliminated by both the twin towers at the rumble.It led to the tag match at the main event between the mega powers and twin towers.Pretty historic match that would be the setup to hogan/savage.The final match was a cage match on snme.Things were much more simple in 1989 so when hogan superplexed bossman off the top of the cage,it was the equivilant to the foley hiac bump.How times have changed.Still,this is good stuff. 29. RODDY PIPER VS RICK RUDE This was setup at summerslam when piper cost rude his ic title in a match against the warrior.While I don't remember much of the buildup after that,I do remember them having a cage match to end it in december.A very good match for the time.Piper was great on the mic and rude was a good heel.I liked this one. 28. ULTIMATE WARRIOR VS RICK RUDE Warrior got over huge when he squashed honky tonk man but it was rick rude who got good matches out of him and was warriors first money feud.It started at rumble 89 when they had a posedown.Then rude won the ic belt with help from heenan in a decent match.Warrior would win it back at summerslam in a very good match and warriors best up until that point.They then feuded briefly a year later when warrior was the world champion but it didn't have the same effect.Other than the wm7 match,nobody got consistent matches out of the warrior like rude did. 27. THE ROCK VS CHRIS JERICHO The verbal exchanges between these two were awesome.One thing some might forget is these two had a confrontation on jerichos' first night with the company.It was a great way to give jericho instant credibility.After a great 2000,jericho didn't do much in 2001 until he turned heel and feuded with the rock.He briefly became a top guy.They had a great match that I shortchanged at no mercy.Jericho would become the undisputed champion.They had another great match at rumble 02.While hhh spoiled jerichos spot on top,the rock did everything to make jericho look like he was on the same level. 26. STEVE AUSTIN VS THE UNDERTAKER This is for the 98 feud.The build up all summer was to a title match at summerslam.A match that is pretty underrated.They did the storyline of austin/taker teaming up against kane/mankind.Both with thier dta attitudes.After summerslam they ran with the storyline of taker/kane being in cohoots to take austins' title.The storyline worked as austin was over to the point of being untouchable.They feuded for the remainder of 98.While they didn't produce any more good matches,the summerslam match was very good and I liked the build up. I will continue to give 5 at a time until I get to the last 5.Then I will give very detailed explanations on the top 5 feuds.What does everyone think so far.

35. SHAWN MICHAELS VS MARTY JANETTY The feud that started hbks' singles career in the wwf.One of my favorite old school moments.The rockers supposedly reuniting on the barbershop until michaels throws janetty threw the glass window.When janetty returned in late 92,michaels was the ic champion.They were putting on great matches at the house shows but had a below average match at rumble 93 and marty left.Another great moment was when marty returned on an early episode of raw and beat shawn for the title in a good match.They had another great match later in the year.This will always be one of my favorites. 34. CHRIS BENOIT VS CHRIS JERICHO When benoit came into the wwf as part of the radicals he quickly was put in a feud with jericho.The result was great matches nearly every time.After 2 years of crash tv and the titles being devalued,these two elevated the ic title back to an important belt.The only problem I have is they were put together for too long and by fully loaded both were ready for main event level.It didn't happen but it didn't stop them from having another great match at summerslam the next month.The feud pretty much ended with an awesome ladder match at rumble 01.Great stuff here. 33. RODDY PIPER VS ADRION ADONIS It sounds funny now but it was suppose to be pipers last match.The feud started when adonis turned pipers pit into the flower shop.Pipers friends orton/muraco joined with adonis.It led to the wrestlemania 3 match.While its not a good match,it has great markout value.Adonis was not to be seen again. 32. SHAWN MICHAELS VS DEISEL Sometimes the simple storylines work the best.Michaels brought in deisel to be his bodyguard and take care of the dirty work.Deisel got over when he went through a bunch of people at rumble 94.After wm10 michaels stopped wrestling and started managing deisel.They later won the tag titles while deisel had the ic title also.On an episode of the action zone they had an awesome tag match against kid/razor.Michaels accidentally superkicked deisel which was the second time it happened.Then at survivor series,Deisel went through all of the opposing team.Michaels wanted to finish off ramon after deisel did all of the work.The result was another superkick.Deisel then snapped and went after hbk.He won the world title a few days later and eventually set up a title match at wm11.The match was decent but booked entirely wrong.Fast forward to 96 where deisel is now the heel challenging the babyface michaels for the world title.They had a great match at iyh.I believe it was deisels last televised match before wcw. 31. STEVE AUSTIN VS KURT ANGLE Some of the best parts of this came from comedy skits.Arguing over who vince liked more.Comedy aside,they had one of my favorite matches at summerslam 01.They really had good matches whenever they wrestled each other.Angle was defending the wwf against austin who sided with wcw.This was the only good thing that came out of the invasion angle was everything with these two.After the summerslam match,angle won the belt at the next months ppv which was a decent match as well.
