The RAW Thread for 05-02-05: Show Comments

Two things: 1. There was a Candido graphic? I totally missed it since they didn't open the show with it. 2. I'm going to stand by booking Jericho that way being fucked up, only because Edge already has a title shot and guys like Jericho can use the shot more than Edge. If Jericho lost the finals to Benjamin or Benoit, then he could snap because he was *this close* to finally getting that one-on-one shot but lost the match that could have put him there.

People who don't shut the fuck up during movies

The saddest one I ever saw: I went to see The Ring II with my fiancee, and not 15 seconds after the commercial aired about turning off your cell phones in a theater, somebody's cell phone went off. Funny right? The same cell phone went off about 10 times before the movie was over. I've never heard so many people yelling "Shut the fuck up" at the same time.

    Backlash Discussion

Everybody's so worried about Triple H getting another worried. I'm still trying to figure out how La Resistance came *that close* to regaining the tag team titles when they lost their "last ever title shot" two or three weeks ago on Heat

    SWF Lockdown Card 5-4-05

So we like this five day title reign thing, do we? *sigh* Off to the super secret booking meetings I go.

    Wrestlers Debuts in Companies

    Raven at Unforgiven 2000.
  8. DiBiase: summer 1987 Roberts: February/March 1986. I have a tape of his March 86 Boston match with Jose Luis Rivera, and I don't think his TV debut had aired yet. Duggan: 1987, just before WrestleMania III. Savage: Summer 1985.

I dunno. You've also got some good cruisers who might not be in the hunt otherwise either.
  10. Anytime they were in Flair Country, he'd get booed by a good percentage of the crowd. Generally speaking, when they were in typical WCW markets, he'd get a mixed reaction with it leaning towards booing. The funniest part of this was on a Nitro in late 1995 when he was teaming with Sting against Flair and AA in, I think, North Carolina, and they did the spot where Hogan made the tag behind the referee's back, and when Hogan played up to the crowd to get them to tell the referee he had tagged in, the entire front row stood up, waving their hands and shaking their heads to tell the referee that he hadn't made the tag. Exactly right. If you notice, outside of the normal TV tapings, WCW started booking more and more shows outside their normal markets to counteract that. PPVs in Detroit and Nashville? A Clash in freaking Iowa? You'd have never seen Starrcade in Nashville instead of the Carolinas if they weren't trying to make it seem like Hogan was the number one guy in the company.

WWE "Greatest Stars of the 80's" DVD

Me too . . . do you think we'll EVER be that lucky? I'd even settle for it if they'd release the old WM's one or two at a time, a la the "Tagged Classics" from the UK. The extras alone for each DVD could make them worth the purchase. <----wants a copy of WrestleMania with all the buildup as extras.

    SWF Storm Card, 4-29-05!

Good point, well made. But considering had I not finished the match last night I probably wouldn't have shown up either, I suppose I'll take it and run.

    SWF Storm Card, 4-29-05!

You're not showing? Which means I get a cheap title reign? One of these days I'll win a title match legit and have a heart attack.
  14. Anybody have a good picture of Candido wearing the NWA belt? I'd like to use it for my avatar for a few days.
  15. *sigh* To think that I was going to check one or two more threads real quick before bed since I have work in the morning when this got posted. Now I'm too depressed to sleep. Goddamn it
  16. We'll find out tomorrow when Meltzer updates, I guess. Please don't let this be true.

    Worst song ever?

"Goodbye Earl" by the Dixie Chicks. OK, I understand we're not supposed to take it seriously or anything, but I hated the song before it reached Achy Breaky Heart levels of overplayedness. Yeah, great, you poisoned the guy who beat you. Whatever happened to jail time, anyway?

    Bringing a baby to class...

While not a class thing... Sitting in the airport in Vegas waiting for my flight back home, and this kid...maybe three years old, probably younger, wasn't just crying. She was fucking screaming. Loudly. To the point that I walked from my gate to the restroom (at least 200 yards away) and could hear the girl from inside the fucking restroom. Thank God the kid shouted itself to sleep before we got on the plane, or I probably would have slugged somebody.

And this is why I didn't bother entering this abortion of a competition. Actually, had my vacation not hit in the first round after the tryouts I might have, but I'm starting to be glad I didn't.
  21. The PoP were brought in for two reasons. 1. To feud with Demolition since the gimmicks were similar. 2. To fuck with Jim Crockett. As for the reason they broke up, it was before WrestleMania VI when Mr. Fuji sold their contracts. Warlord went to Slick. The Barbarian went to Bobby Heenan. The LOD made their debut at a TV taping three months later, so they never faced each other in the WWF...but they were feuding in the NWA/Jim Crockett Promotions when the POP signed with the WWF. The interesting thing is people who watched both WWF and JCP in 1988 labeled the POP cowards for leaving in the middle of the feud with the Road Warriors. And it's just my opinion, but I think that's one of the reasons the POP never got over as faces, the other reason being, obviously, that Demolition was already getting face pops and were considered the originals by WWF fans.
  22. People still claim that Roddy Piper beat Rick McGraw so badly that Piper essentially killed McGraw. McGraw died of a drug overdose shortly after that match was taped.

    SWF Sunday Night Frost

Is it just me, or do I always end up third in heel heat when I'm booked for a show? Not complaining, but I think so.
