I don't have enough perspective yet, but anyway: ought-nizzles:

1. Outkast - Stankonia

2. Jay-Z - The Blueprint

3. Wolf Parade - Apologies to the Queen Mary

4. The Wrens - The Meadowlands

5. Exploding Hearts - Guitar Romantic

I think the only reason Yankee Hotel Foxtrot isn't on there is because I've been in a big Being There mood lately.

This decade? Stankonia's in there, sure, but I don't know what else. If I considered this a year ago, I definitely would've given props to Young Liars, but now I think Return to Cookie Mountain is superior. But why not both?

Beyond "I Was a Lover," "Hours," "Province," "Wolf Like Me," and "Things You Can Do," which are fantastic, especially the last one there I mean wow, the rest of Return to Cookie Mountain doesn't captivate me. If it's among the five best albums made in the the last seven years, the last seven years really sucked. Kid A and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot are up there for sure, probably Funeral, Nellie McKay's Get Away From Me is a personal favorite and borderline top 5, I'm iffy on Blueberry Boat, and Radiohead LP7 might just be up here by the end of the year.

I think Blueberry Boat is probably in my 00's top 10, but I think a lot of that is because it reminds me of The Residents' Not Available. After a glance at my collection, the top 5 might be harder than I first thought, not just because there's more candidates than I thought, but because I have a minor quibble or two about each one that stops me calling them 'an album of the decade'. I have about 10 that are merely very good.

if it's among the five best albums made in the the last seven years,

I'd hesitate to call list of releases since 2000 a list of "best." "Best" and "favorite" mean somewhat different things to me. Not really enough perspective yet to perform a legit value judgment--I doubt any of us have consumed enough of the 2000 and beyond releases to size that up yet. But I do love me that TV on the Radio album. Similar thoughts to Inc about Young Liars, but the expansion on this album almost knocks that one down a peg. Like Revolver and A Hard Day's Night to me, to draw out an overused analogy.

On the flipside, I really like seeing lists of favorite music from these past 7 years, because I think they're a bit more honest than 90s, 80s, 70s list. Not to belittle anyone's choices from those decades, but with recent music there's hardly any canon yet, so we've got fewer subliminal pressures pointing us towards Classic Album A or Genre-Defining Release B.

1. Scritti Politti - White Bread, Black Beer

2. Sparks - Lil' Beethoven

3. Belle & Sebastian - The Life Pursuit

4. Electrelane - Axes

5. The Knife - Deep Cuts

White Bread, Black Beer will probably still make the top 5 come the end of 2010. I absolutely love it.

By worm, you meant weiner, right? I forgot to put Summerteeth up there. Next to "YHF" and "Being There", "Summerteeth" is my favorite Wilco CD. I forgot "Being There", too. And Czech would dig Dismemberment Plan. They're...jazzy.

They weren't dancing by the end of "Squeeze Me Macoroni?"

My girlfriend doesn't mind Bungle too much, but she loves "Peeping Tom." Fantomas and Patton's solo albums are another story. How about top five albums or songs that freaked out your girlfriend/friend/wife/ or anybody. Not the same as annoyed(Beefhart would be number one them), I mean really bothered them.

1. Diamanda Galas-"Dancing in the Dark" My girlfriend had to turn it off after the opening piano lines.

2. Fantomas-"Rosemary's Baby"

3. Minton/West-"Gemini"

4. Can-"Peking O"

5. Prince-"If I Was Girlfriend" Yeah, gives alot of people the creeps for some reason....

Honorable mention goes to the entire album, Toby Driver-"In the Li...Li....Library Loft."
