Guest Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Report post Posted July 24, 2002 Slipknot is useless If you are grouchy go punch yourself in the head...or listen to 'Grand Declaration Of War' by Mayhem.
Guest Sebastian_the_Bastard Report post Posted July 24, 2002 All these other bands named can suck it. Every keeps saying "if you're mad listen to..." but I'm perfectly content listening to Slipknot. But never forget... I love you all!!!, Sebastian the Bastard
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted July 26, 2002 Wow, I'm glad there are so many sensible people on this board that dislike a band as crappy as Slipknot. I feel like making a bit of a philosophical argument here. When you're angry, why would you want to listen to music that festers on that and actually INCREASES anger and angst? Isn't that counter-productive?
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted July 26, 2002 It's called a release. The same way you can go to a show that involves moshing and get rid of your aggression in the pit.
Guest Doomsault Report post Posted July 26, 2002 I hate it when bands like Slipknot release a well liked song by MOST people that are into rock and then the rest of the album is crap. Oh yeah, I'm reffering to Wait and Bleed.
Guest Sebastian_the_Bastard Report post Posted July 26, 2002 It's great to listen to something you can relate to. Like when I'm sad, I'll pop in a Dashboard Confessional CD. Angry? Slipknot. Want to be cheered up? Third Eye Blind or Andrew W.K. Whatever fits the mood, brah. I love you all!!!, Sebastian the Bastard
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted July 26, 2002 It's called a release. The same way you can go to a show that involves moshing and get rid of your aggression in the pit. Well, even though I hate that too, I can understand moshing because it's something physical, but just music?
Guest SuperTonyJaymz Report post Posted July 26, 2002 Moshing is stupid. Wait and Bleed was a good song, i havent heard a Slipknot song that I liked like that. BTW plus 10 points for mentioning the uber cool Dashboard Confessionals, but minus 15 for menition the sucktacular Andrew WK
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted July 26, 2002 I am never taking SuperTonyJaymz seriously ever again, simply because he just said that Dashboard Confessional, that piece of shit emo pussy-ass fucking band, is good. I'm just playing...I'll still take you seriously...but only when it's necessary. Be forewarned that I'll use your liking of emo against you in the future. And evenflowDDT, not familiar with music therapy, I see...
Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted July 26, 2002 nothing but a gimmick band. take away four members, and the masks, janitor suits, and they are nothing. Actually, wouldn't that be addition by subtraction? It's been said before, but it really doesn't hurt to say it again. Slipknot SUCKS. For music that's supposed to be ultra-pissed off, half of their stuff sounds like it was made for heavy mainstream rotation. Is there such a thing as pop-metal? If I wanted to listen to something angry, I'd just throw Pantera in my CD player and crank it.

If I wanted to listen to something angry, I'd just throw Pantera in my CD player and crank it. agreed... Pantera is basically the whole angry-metal thing. Pop-Metal is almost Nu-Metal in a way (lets not get into this discussion) bands like Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Puddle of Mudd, Disturbed, Slipknot...etc
Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted July 27, 2002 When I get pissed, I like Godsmack, Reveille, Metallica, Pantera, and Fear Factory. Sometimes, when I get so mad that I get calm and quiet (You know what I'm talking about), it's all about System of a Down's self titled CD.
Guest Sebastian_the_Bastard Report post Posted July 27, 2002 Slipknot is not nu-metal nor will they ever be nu-metal. I can understand not liking them, not everyone does. But don't be ignorant and refer to them as nu-metal. They're straight up metal. I love you all!!!, Sebastian the Bastard
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted July 27, 2002 No, Sebastian, Slipknot are straight-up NU-METAL. The songs are catchy, overly-simplistic guitar riffs, focus on the drums mainly, and the lyrics are pretty much written to appeal to a teenage male audience. Face it: nu-metal. Want some METAL? Morbid Angel, Arch Enemy, Shadows Fall, Nile, Marduk, Dimmu Borgir, Megadeth (the first 4 or 5 albums are among the best metal records EVER), Iron Maiden, Iced Earth, GWAR, Meshuggah, Sentenced, Sigh, Japan-X... Do I NEED to continue?
Guest Alice_In_Chains_Chick Report post Posted July 27, 2002 Is it just me or is Slipknot great to listen to when you're really pissed off? I love you all!!!, Sebastian the Bastard I agree with ya....Slipknot is the best to listen to when ya get really pissed off!
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted July 27, 2002 And evenflowDDT, not familiar with music therapy, I see... I've heard of the term, but I'm not really sure what it means. Care to summarize, or maybe point me to a site with a description?

Although I do enjoy GWAR, and Dave Brokie is probably the funniest person I've ever met, I'd probably call them more punk than metal.

Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted July 27, 2002 Slipknot is definetly NU-METAL. Oh, wait, it should be typed like this: NuMeTaL rOoLz DuDeZ! That's the closest thing to an intelligent conversation with "slipknot fans" online.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted July 27, 2002 I consider Gwar a metal/punk hybrid. They have metal songs and punk songs, appeal to both fanbases, etc. And evenflowDDT, music therapy is a therapy used where you listen to music in a...umm...therapeutic way. Like, when you're angry, you listen to calm music, some prefer to listen to pissed-off music (like myself) to express their anger, a "release" if you will. Just go to http://www.google.com and type in "music therapy."
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted July 27, 2002 Nu metal fans are hideous. It's scary how FUCKING RETARDED people are.
Guest Sebastian_the_Bastard Report post Posted July 28, 2002 How the hell could you consider Slipknot nu-metal? Just because they're popular metal doesn't make them nu-metal. To make such a statement is over-flowing with ignorance. Lazarus, have you ever even heard a Slipknot CD? If not, then shut up and go listen to one then post your opinion. Yeah... "I wanna slit your throat and fuck the wound" is what appeals to every male teenager, right! Is that what you're thinking right now?? If not, then my point is proved... Why does everyone insist on naming bands that they think are metal?? I said it once and I'll say it again... I'm content listening to Slipknot, so posting bands you think are metal won't change my opinion. Though we are arguing, still.... I love you all!!!, Sebastian the Bastard
Guest The Amazing Rando Report post Posted July 28, 2002 when I'm angry I listen to Taproot or Darwin's Waiting Room....they are great release tension bands... and so what if they are nu-metal...it doesn't all suck...
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted July 28, 2002 Hey, Sebastian, come closer... I'VE HEARD ALL 3 OF SLIPKNOT'S CDs I own Slipknot and IOWA, and borrowed my friend Jason's copy of Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat. So don't try to use THAT argument against me. I also have about 250-300 CDs, about 132 are straight-up metal. So, sorry, but I think a person like myself that listens to metal (and has for many years), studies metal (try to find books on metal, pal, they exist; and I don't mean Hit Parader, Metal Edge, etc.), plays in a metal band, and has an old-school metalhead brother-in-law that I hang out with on a constant basis qualifies me to know more about metal than some Slipknot hoodie-wearing mallfuck. Hey, I don't care if you listen to Slipknot, but calling them metal isn't showing your opinion on the band: it's straight-up lying about them.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted July 28, 2002 and so what if they are nu-metal...it doesn't all suck... Exactly. I never said Slipknot sucked BECAUSE they were nu-metal, I just said they sucked and they were nu-metal. To prove I don't think nu-metal sucks completely...Nu-metal bands I listen to: System Of A Down, Saliva, Amen, post-Demanufacture Fear Factory, Methods Of Mayhem, Primer 55 Hell, I used to practically worship Amen, and they're about as nu-metal as they come (all the while Casey Chaos tries to be the next Johnny Rotten). Guest thefrenchargel Report post Posted July 28, 2002 Slipknot hoodie-wearing mallfuck. that....that...that is the greatest insult ever. if someone EVER pisses me off again, I will call them a Slipknot hoodie-wearing Mallfuck. brilliant, sez I.

Guest Sebastian_the_Bastard Report post Posted July 28, 2002 If you don't like them, why the hell do you own their albums???? And, dammit, they're just not nu-metal. I hate you all!!!!, Sebastian the Bastard Now see what you did, Lazarus? You made me hostile.
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted July 28, 2002 I don't mind em really, but they are certainly nu metal. I consider anything with rap influence and/or a DJ/samples guy nu metal as a pose to metal. slipknot have a samples man and dj. there ya go. They are better than most nu metal, but still nu metal. Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted July 28, 2002 I own lots of CDs by bands I don't like. Kittie, Korn, Limp Bizkit...I even own a John Fogerty CD... I own the Slipknot CDs to remind myself of my mallfucks days when I worshipped Marilyn Manson and Rage Against The Machine. What arguments do you have that they're NOT nu-metal? I have several arguments stating they are... No solo's. The vast majority of nu-metal bands do not solo, whereas almost all REAL metal bands do solo. Lyrics obviously directed towards the angry teenage male audience. Lyrics like "fuck it all, fuck this world, fuck everything that you stand for" appeals to the angry teenager demographic, who mistaken the word "fuck" for "really cool." Nothing to differentiate their songs. "Wait And Bleed" and "Left Behind" sound almost exactly alike, and the two mainstream albums are so similar it's not funny. Focus on drumming instead of guitars. Metal ALWAYS focuses on the guitar work, regardless of what kind of metal band one is listening to. Slipknot has yet to have a song that has actually focused on the guitar. Vocals that are SCREAMED instead of sung, growled, or screeched. Metal has three kinds of vocals: clean singing, death growls, and black screeches. Notice there's no screaming? That's strictly a hardcore/punk thing. Overly simplistic music. Metal has at least SOME complexity to it, even the simpler black and doom songs. Slipknot's music has little to no complexity, as I was able to learn "Wait And Bleed" after only a day or two of looking at tabs, and this was within my first 2 months of playing guitar, when most are still working on scales and learning what tablature is. See? Now please tell me what makes them metal, and give me 3 metal bands they SOUND LIKE, not that "influenced" them.
