Guest Cancer Marney Report post Posted July 30, 2002 Chrissakes, we have over 2 million people in the armed forces already. The most pessimistic estimates say that we'd need 200,000 for a full invasion and occupation of Iraq, and I'll personally guarantee that our casualties would be negligible. That means we'll have 90% of our total military strength in reserve even if we do go to war. There's nothing else on the horizon, unfortunately. We barely know what to do with the people we've got. Why the hell would we want to draft anyone? Stop whimpering, you pansies.

Guest Some Guy Report post Posted July 30, 2002 Unless WWIII breaks out there will be no draft ever again in this country. Iraq is really nothing in terms of military power when compared to us. A draft is unnecessary at this point and would just piss people off. In past wars people volunteered to go then Vietnam changed how many Americans think about war and drafts. That's why the Baby Boomers got rid of the damn thing.
Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted July 30, 2002 If he does, im sure glad im 15 and not 18. And, i dont think he will. uh, you do know you won't be 15 forever right? That'd make you about 17 at the start of Bush's second term. And you know, the draft just isn't used for short-term wars. Fortunately for all of us, this thing with Iraq shouldn't drag on long at all. The draft just isn't going to happen, because it won't be worth the political cost. A couple more years, I'll be passed draft age anyway. One of the few bright spots of getting old.

I'm probably protected since I'm Canadian, but if there is a mandatory draft I'm moving back just to be on the safe side. Even better, I'll try and move to Switzerland... I will not shed my blood, and the blood of others just to protect some man in a Glass House. A White-Tinted, glass house.Mmm. So you're implying that the US armed forces exist solely to protect the President. Interesting. I'm sure this will be news to 240 million taxpayers. I hope you arnt insinuating that I'm a fat, lazy person. Why do you think this particular forum is a special case? And why on earth do you imagine I'd lose one second of sleep over being banned, rightly or wrongly, from an Internet message board for people who watch big hairy men in spandex and oil grope each other? Guest Nezbyte Report post Posted July 30, 2002 Christ, Marney, what is your problem? I posted what i think about the draft and you take pot-shots at me like a child. Age has little to do with maturity. Maturity is a state of mind, much like freedom.

I posted what i think about the draft and you take pot-shots at meYou're an easy target, and it's funny to listen to you snivel. I feel sort of bad because you're so young, but you make up for it by being obnoxiously full of yourself. If you tried, you'd be the bestest little soldier I'd ever seen? Heh. Sure you would, son. Go put away your Tinkertoys now before Mommy sees them and spanks you again. Age has little to do with maturity. Maturity is a state of mind, much like freedom.Fair enough. Based on that criterion, you're still a whiny snot-nosed little brat. Okay, I can't justify this to myself anymore. However silly you are, however dumb the things you say, I can't keep bashing a 15 year-old. I have to look myself in the face to put on my lipstick. Flamewar over. Some Guy is right. It would take another WWII for the politicians to find the political cost not outwieghing the national interests as far as the draft goes. The Iraqi terrain is also completely different from Vietnam's, not that I think we'd have much problem with a reprise.

Guest Mr. Slim Citrus Report post Posted July 30, 2002 As much as I enjoy watching people argue with Marney, I'm afraid I have to agree with her her (::checks outside window to make sure pigs aren't flying by:... I think that anyone who abjectly refuses to support and defend their country should not have any reasonable expectation to be protected by that country. The military isn't for everybody; some people can better serve this country away from the line of fire (or so Marney claims... j/k). But, if you're not even willing to show moral support for this country's armed forces, then please feel free to get the fuck out at your earliest convenience. Stop wasting our resources. That being said, I'm very strongly opposed to the draft; men and women should be willing to place themselves between their home and the desolation of war, and if they have to be told to do so, it's a sign of bad things to come... I wish these words were mine: "No state has an inherent right to survive through conscript troops and, in the long run, no state ever has. Roman matrons used to say to their sons: 'Come back with your shield, or on it.' Later on, this custom declined. So did Rome."

Tsk... don't ever take anything for a fact. How many times do people have to mention that the next conflict the United States gets involved in will be like Vietnam. The U.S. fought the war in the worst possible manner. I agree the draft won't be in place unless its WWIII. The draft might be the least of the problems if that happens. Nezbyte. You think anyone wants to go to war? A soldiers motto is "Train for war, Pray for Peace". Any soldier that as seen combat is scared, but their fighting for your country and are willing to die for your country. Somepeople...yourself included won't join the military, and that's fine. But to immediately say you'd dodge the draft it if it returns, is a rush to judgment. You have no idea what kind of war the U.S. would be in, they could kill your family. Sorry for being so harsh, but a war that requires a draft is going to be huge, and your thoughts on the matter might change dramatically.

Guest cartman Report post Posted July 31, 2002 Boy I gotta tell you guys, I absolutely MARK OUT for people who have it installed in their mind's that they are on some higher level than most other people. Anyways...There isnt going to be another "war" with Iraq. There is going to be alot of pointless cockwaving back and forth between Saddam and Bush...(woah...Deja Vu...)...When everyone accepts that these men are Hetero Lifemates then you will all realize that all this crap is just, as one said earlier in this thread, giving our military something to do. Don't you think if the US government was really threatened by Saddam he would be dead long before now? He is no real threat other than the occasional staged terrorist attack, which our government goes along with anyways. So now that I KNOW people are gonna increase the Hate on me, Flame away I am definitely ready Oh and PS. I just finished my Happy Meal, and DAMN that shiz was GOOD!
