COme on now...I love Funaki as much as the next Smark...but over Awesome?!

 

Does this mean they have NOTHING planned for Awesome...cause let's face it, FNK is still near the bottom of the card, they'll never give him a huge push...but you'd think they'd have plans for Awesome in the Land of the Hoss

I think it makes sense. I always wondered who win between these two. I figured Funaki because neither man would win with their finisher, so they would have to win with a rollup because of that, it would make sense for the smaller guy(Funaki) to win. It also looks like they are giving Funaki a push lately, so I am guessing they decided to put him over Awesome who appears to currently be the biggest jobber on the Smackdown roster.

 

Either that, or it's a hardy "F you!" from Heyman for jumping to WCW.

I love Mike Awesome, but he has been looking brutal since his return. He unfortunatly looks very clumsy, and is not in the right state to have any sort of push. Sad but true. But there are lines on who he should be losing to, Funaki? Maybe, he always looks good and works hard. But to Mark Henry? Heck no.

unfortuantely, bdub NO ONE should be losing to mark henry because the fat fuck doesn't deserve to be in the fed, plain and simple. as for funaki beating awesome, hey i see no problem with this whatsoever. unless masato tanaka was his opponent, i have never seen mike awesome do anything worthwhile in the ring that made me think "this guy deserves a push". go funaki!!!! now if they could only get dick togo and taka back in the fed.

By making it Awesome that Funaki beats its like a freak occurence. If it was a Cruiserweight Funaki defeated then that would really justify a push. And I dunno if the WWE is ready to push Funaki that far yet.

This is just stupid. Not Awesome losing to Funaki, but just the pairing of the cruiserweight and the heavyweight in a match against each other. It is VERY SIMPLE. Crusierweights wrestle cruiserweights, heavyweights wrestle heavyweights; this is not rocket science. The cruiserweights never beat the heavyweights convincingly (see roll up by Funaki) so it is seen as a fluke, and the heavyweights have to job to a lil man - so they get devalued as well. IT BENEFITS NO ONE! God I hate that. And they CONTINUE TO DO IT! Crusierweight vs. Heavyweight = bad. Cruiserweight vs. Cruiserweight = Good.

 

The ONLY thing a cruiserweight can do is sell the big mans power moves, and you better believe Funaki will make Awesome look like Gold.

i hope so, he needs it. Wcw seemed to make awesome and storm look like the laziest assholes ever, but storm is back on track. Of course, how do we know awesome deteriorated that much if he's only in standard 4 minute matches on velocity?

Maybe Awesome no longer gives a fuck. Would you? He was the champ in ECW, a star in WCW, and has done next to nothing in WWE. Besides for winning the Hardcore title that one time and being involved in the match where ECW ran in, do you have any Mike Awesome WWE memories? How about getting bitched out by Steph for watching a tape of RAW...or, um, losing to Funaki.

I seem to recall some match called the Inagural Brawl and another one at Survivor Series. Maybe Awesome could have been used in the first one to actually make a new star and then been used in the 2nd one, instead of silently following Stone Cold around the whole time. Or hell, they could have just had him beat ANYONE on the WWF side in a singles match during the invasion.

Maybe Awesome can go to Japan and be the Gladiator again try to recapture some former glory. If the WWE was ever serious in doing deals with the Japanese wrestling feds they could send Awesome over in a tour in return from Japanese wrestlers back. For now though Mike Awesome cant get any tracks together. Right now this is just a reintroduction of Mike Awesome to the WWE fans, even if the big man jobs to the Power of Funaki!

I think it's pretty great that The Whole Fuckin' Sho seems to be getting a push, over Mike Awesome, no less. art_vandelay is a prophet! But hopefully, this isn't an angle where Awesome gets jobbed out to all these bottom-tier guys, then snaps and goes on some kind of rampage, then challenges Brock to the title or something.

Well, there is one thing that they could do to at least increase the importance of the cruiserweights... which is having the heavyweights fighting two or three cruiserweights with an offense that looks convincing to the crowd and makes those cruisers look like an actual threat, but then have those same cruisers be in equally important matches with the average cruiser. Like... maybe Chavo, Tajiri, Eddie and even Hurricane (heavyweights *have* been properly selling his offense on SD).

 

I don't know for myself how well this would work, but I don't think it'll happen either way. With a blatant suicidal tendency, WWE purposely drowns out the voice of reason

That is not always the case. It can work fine if it is booked well, like Tajiri vs. Awesome a few weeks back where Tajiri worked out Awesome's knee, and it eventually gave out, leaving Awesome to fall victim to the big kick. Hopefully, they will do more matches like that and not ones with the rollup finish, though I can see putting over Funaki with a rollup since he has not won a singles match in like forever.

Yes, you are right BDub. At Smackdown last week, he wrestled in a dark match, and he looked very rusty in the ring. I was very disapointed.

 

However, it is just ring rust, he'll get better soon.

Awesome has never been taken seriously by the WWE, nor will he ever be. Except for his "24/7 hardcore title win" over Rhyno I don't think he's won once since he joined the company. And he still might be a bit clumsy in the ring but he's still one of the few interesting "big men" in the company.
