the bottom line is this... from the wwe's standpoint (which i think everyone can agree, vince mcmahon has never shown any class in any situation) how does the gay gimmick help generate interest inside the ring or even make yyou want to watch the product? it doesn't. period. thus, when a race gimmick or homosexual gimmick or nationalist gimmick appears, you have to question the reasoning behind it. how is this beneficial to the wrestlers and the company? all directions point to it NOT being beneficial to anyone. example: saba simba(sic?). that did wonders for tony atlas. hell, booker t is one of the most over wrestlers in the fed today and in wcw in 1998 and race is not the primary focus of his character. you may call it being oversensitive but when the gimmick involved does no good for anybody what is the fucking point?

I like George Carlin, Sam Kinnison, Richard Pryor etc. They made plenty of spiteful comments about race/creed/religion but it doesn't make them assholes for doing it does it?

 

And yes some gay jokes do entertain me.

Eh, but is there really a need for it?

 

When you get down to the basic concept, wrestling is an athletic contest. It should be treated like such. We know it's booked, but does that make it any less of a contest? Or does it make the participants any less an athlete than a football or baseball player?

 

Granted, Wrestling isn't rocket science. A little intelligence goes a long way, though. Take Steve Austin, for example. He did some really wierd stunts..but they were mostly entertaining. (Beer Bath, Zamboni, Limo..etc.)

 

Then take Billy and Chuck. You can tell it's obviously a joke gimmick. Billy Gunn looks miserable as hell with it. If you have to resort for "comedy" gimmicks for more wrestlers than you can count on two hands..

 

There's a damn problem on the writing team.

I agree. I prefer intense HHH vs. SCSA like feuds than comedic stuff.

It dosen't have to be ALL serious..but if you're gonna make sure something is funny, make sure it's ACTUALLY FUNNY. Not "hyuck, hyuck..he's gay.." type of stuff.

 

While I'm sure there may have been people that thought the beer bath, or random stuff Austin did was stupid..I doubt it really offended anyone.

But my right is that all groups are open targets and that is probably why I like George Carlin and don't care for the weakness of some groups and their whining about everything under the sun. Or it could be I just don't give a fuck. I like white jokes, black jokes, gay jokes, all kinds of jokes its all fun for me because most people don't take it seriously. The ones that do are the ones who are trying to control thought... and like George Carlin says those who want to control thought try to control language because people think in language. I'm a callous person because in the fact that its okay by your opinion to say a black joke infront of say an audience but it would be offensive to say a gay joke infront of said audience.

Sorry I read that wrong my apologies. But there are straight sex jokes and jokes even about sex with underaged girls on WWE TV (LAWLER). If I don't see you writing a letter campaign about that then why would gay jokes offend you more?

Lawler is a jackass - and personally, and quite honestly I don't pay attention to what he has to say. As I said earlier, I have a problem with how the ladies are portrayed on WWE TV. I don't think anyone should be put in such an embarrassing predictament as a pillow fight for Vince's wacking off amusement

I am not going to start any campaign...in fact I personally am not THAT bothered. My main problem is with the WWE completely alienating their fans, and pissing off a large minority of people with this angle. They know what they are doing is wrong, but they are doing it for ratings.
