Top 10 WWE Wrestlers of 2007

Recommended Posts

Guest El Psycho Diablo

And your point? I like Eddy, yes. But I don't go around putting him on a level with the current WWE main event guys. I think he's one hell of a worker, and gets the shaft a lot of places. I don't go around proclaiming Guerrero as "God".

Rant on:

I don't like Benoit. No. Too many people assume that he should be champion simply because he's the "best worker in the WWE".

How does it go.."oversaturation"?

When something gets pimped to high heaven, you get sick of it eventually. All I ever hear are things like Benoit getting put on the level of guys like Angle and Jericho..who have the ability to keep a crowd interested in a match. Every time I hear that a "great match" should have the crowd into it, and that a dead crowd takes a lot away from a match..and yet that's blatantly ignored? Yes, I'm talking about the "Four Star Classic" between RVD/Benoit at Summerslam. I don't think it was that great.

And if you want to talk about me changing my story, how all the arguments about matches being knocked down a star or two because the crowd simply wasn't into it? Maybe I'm deaf, but that crowd was -dead-. It was a lopsided match that got the crowd only at the very end.

To get to the point at hand..

Benoit is hurt greatly by his lack of natural, WWE-style charisma that will hold him back from ever being a top 5 WWE star

Then by what right, except for the "internet love" he gets, is he on a list that's supposed to be the top ten guys in 2007?

A character or personality that's as bland as Benoit's is simply will not break the main event barrier in the WWE. This is not Japan, where things are based on workrate. This is not even WCW, where a guy like Benoit could rise to the top. But you know something, WCW always seemed like "a step below" than the WWF/WWE. Yes, the Invasion was booked badly. But guys like Booker or Benoit never looked on the level that guys like Austin and Rock are. That's exactly what this means. Which guys will be at the top to carry the WWE into the future?

Benoit's ringwork is "great", yes, but does he have the character skills to be anything other than a "silent killer"?

A Comparison: Look at Triple H. His character is similar in some ways, and he has a hell of a lot more push than Benoit does. Even HE has a hard time staying at the top, because he's not likeable, and people don't particularly hate him anymore. His charisma isn't nearly at the level of a Rock or Austin's. He's afraid of guys like Jericho and Van Dam. He's shown that. Why? They have the charisma (Jericho) or mannerisms/coolness (Van Dam) that Trips surely dosen't.

Ringwork may carry Benoit close to the top, but it sure as hell won't get him up there, or KEEP him up there. All the other guys in the WWE on that list (Trips, Cena, Rock, Jericho, Van Dam, Angle, Edge, Lesnar) have something Benoit lacks. It may be charisma (Rock, Jericho, etc) look (Cena, Edge, Lesnar) or "political pull" (HHH), but Benoit has none of the three. As character driven as the WWE is, Benoit will simply get stale, and boring. Guys like Rock may be, but they CAN change. Benoit dosen't have that luxury, or the vocal ability to.

He isn't this "God" that people here refer to him as. Maybe I'm not elite enough or whatever to see this thing that makes him so head and shoulders above everybody in the WWE, but he just isn't. That's why I feel he didn't really have a place on that list. I can't see him leading the WWE in five years. It's just not going to happen.

Rant over.

I don't give a shit who you like and don't like. But when you make crap statements about my favorites that you have to backtrack, nitpick and straw grab when I call you on them, all three of which you did in this thread, that's annoying and I will call you on it. You may be sick of the oversaturation, but that doesn't give you the right to be saying things that can be so easily disproven, just to be a dick, like the "SK always gives Benoit matches ****" (this was later changed to ***, I noticed, so you wouldn't be so inaccurate). Two wrongs don't make a right. It ALSO doesn't give you the right to be bashing someone in every second or third post that you make. Geez, not even bps or Anglesault do that to their hated wrestlers! That should tell you something. You seem obsessed with the subject, as that's almost all you ever talk about. Sad really.

If you have such a problem with Benoit being on that list, then go email the creator of the list to rant to him. Ranting here won't prove or change a thing. Tip of the Day for you there.

Out of curiosity, I'd like to know which posters around here call Benoit "God".

Continue hoping that Test gets that movie deal! I know how much you want to prove some faceless people here wrong!

Then what's the excuse with Lesnar?

and I don't wanna hear that crap, "He has THE look." Benoit, as much as Lesnar, has that badass, take no shit Look & Attitude. Actually, Benoit looks more so because he doesn't have that young goofy look like Lesnar. When you have "THE Look" size doesn't really matter.

When Benoit came back he could have EASILY been pushed in Lesnar's spot and probably done more with it.

I thought that I'd bump this up since we've reached 2007, and well it's fun to reflect on what we thought 5 years ago.

It's interesting to see how big the Cena hate here was in 2002 and how that one guy thought the list was garbage because of Cena's inclusion. It's actually amazing that 411 was so spot on with Cena, considering where he was at that point in time (Bland RUTHLESS AGGRESSION babyface). The only guys out of that top 10 that are stars in WWE in 2007 though are John Cena, Triple H and Edge. The honorable mentions do better with The Undertaker, Jeff Hardy, Booker T and Batista as top guys now.

Anyway, you can close this if you like, I just wanted to bump this so we could reflect on what we all thought 5 years ago about today.

In all fairness they almost had it right with RVD if not for the weed bust in 2006. Without that he likely would have been a top star in WWE right now.

RVD should have been a top star in 2002. He was fucked up beyond all repair after HHH killed any chance of RVD making any money for the company.

The Ron Killings prediction wasn't so hot...

The rest of them you couldn't have complained with at the time.

Oh I get it, this is a bumped 5 year-old topic we're supposed to give 411 some "respect" or something, despite being written by a bunch of people not in business. Okay.

Not at all, I only bumped it so we could look back at how we perceived today, yesterday.

And if you even read my quote, you'd see that I said that they only got 3 out of 10 right. What's wrong with a little reflection? I thought that it'd be interesting to look back on how we perceived things just 5 years ago.

Somethings about this thread that stick out to me:

1. People calling for Edge to bulk up

2. People saying that AJ Styles could be a WWE star if he "added some mass"

3. People talking about Low-Ki and Danielson being stars in the future

And the biggest thing...........

"Ron Killings is champion of a dying company"

Five years later and TNA is still going, with Kurt Angle as their Heavyweight Champion.

The Undertaker - While the Undertaker is currently one of WWE’s top stars, his age is starting to show. 5 years from now, it seems unlikely that the Undertaker will still be wrestling. While he may remain with WWE in some type of backstage role, his days as a top star are numbered.

This quote I found interesting sence Taker looks to be in the best shape of his career before his injury and even wrestled a hell of alot better than he did 5 years ago.

The question is.. Who here could make predictions for five years from now?

Sad thing is, I look 5 years into the future and all I can see is John Cena - if he hasn't done a 'Rock' and left for Hollywood.

1. John Cena

2. HHH

3. Chris Jericho

4. Bobby Lashley

5. CM Punk

6. Jonny Nitro/Morrison

7. Alex Shelly

Nope I tried, very weakly, to do it, but I just can't.
