Guest Downhome Report post Posted September 7, 2002 From 1wrestling... Hell froze over in the world of professional wrestling. Again. Joanie "Chyna" Lauer made his official in-ring debut for New Japan Pro Wrestling earlier today at the promotion's 9/6 tour opener at the Ishikawa Industrial Exhibition Hall #3. The show drew an announced sellout of 3,000 fans. Lauer teamed with Glamour Boy Shane (IWA Puerto Rico) and Justin McCully (worker who trains at the Antonio Inoki Los Angeles dojo) to defeat the team of (get this) Jushin Liger, Masahito Kakihara, and Yuji Nagata. My head hurts from typing that, so I can only imagine what it was like for fans who paid to witness this one. Lauer actually did some mat work early in the match. McCully forced Kakihara to submit with a cross arm breaker. Lauer slapped Nagata at one point and told the media after the match she wanted to challenge for the IWGP championship. Yeah, that's going to happen. Speaking of Lauer, New Japan has a fake "Great Muta" booked for one of the shows on this tour, and I have a sneaking suspicion it will be Lauer playing the role as "Muta" is booked teaming with the same performers Lauer is, and Lauer does do the handspring into the elbow in the corner. ...first Chyna's team wins, but then she is looked to play GREAT MUTA!? Ok, this is just dandy, and I'm not talking El here. Sincerely, ...Downhome...
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted September 7, 2002 She also pinned Gedo in the 9/7 show. From Puroresu Power: 5. Joanie Laurer & Shane defeated Gedoh (Super J-Cup '95 finalist) & Jadoh in 9 minutes, 2 seconds when Laurer used a school-boy roll-up on Gedoh for the win. I can't wait to see pictures of Chyna as Muta.
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted September 7, 2002 excuse me, but now i have to throw up in disgust on what is going on over there
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted September 7, 2002 Inoki is such an idiot. Is the MUTA thing supposed to be a joke at Keiji Mutoh? I doubt he will care, as it is NJPW that is looking stupid.
EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2002 Hey, I have NO problem about her going over Gedo...little pig monkey bitch that he is... But there is NOOOOOOOOOOOO fucking way that she can POSSIBLY TRY to be GREAT MUTA. HELLO! It'S FUCKING CHYNA!
Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted September 7, 2002 It could be a lot worse I suppose, but this is still really fucking bad. I don't think NJ will go as low as to have her play MUTA though. I predict its going to be some indy guy who can do Muta spots like Muta could back in 1989
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted September 7, 2002 Gedo (since J Cup 94, which is why most people hate him) has developed into a good worker, and he shouldn't lose to Chyna. This MUTA thing is even more insulting. Mr. Inoki: Indeeed you are.
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted September 7, 2002 Did you guys ever consider that Chono is trying to burry the Muta gimick as an FU to Mutoh? It's not like this is the first parody of the character that's ever been done, and it's not like the character was ever really that serious in its motivation, either. He never fooled anyone with the face paint, and the "outlandish" alter-ego isn't exactly representative of New Japan tradition, either. What do you think Great Nita was? It's not as if parodying Muta is a new concept. This whole thing might make NJ look desperate, but it's certainly not tredging over anyone's legacy, especially since Mutoh has done that enough on his own without any help from NJ. And did I miss something, because from what I saw Chyna didn't actually pin anyone in the six man. "Kakihara does a job in NJ? Whoa, cue the bizarro music, that's just crazy!" If Gedoh and Jadoh were still the IWGP Junior Tag Team Champions, I could MAYBE see people getting riled up over them jobbing, but now? They're just Juniors in a defunct stable who never win anymore. The loss is bad for them, but they're not even under contract with NJ, so what reason does Chono have to keep them credible? I don't like the guy's booking style, but I think Hell will trully freeze over when 1wrestling actually reports a news story without forcing their asinine opinions down our throats. Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted September 7, 2002 Chyna should be nowhere near a NJPW ring. Its that simple. Her pinning anyone (other than Yasuda ) is stupid. Apparently, Inoki is the one who is pushing Chyna, so I don't know about Chono's booking. NJPW has put on some great stuff this year, and now this shit. Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted September 7, 2002 Chono's booking strategy has been less-than stellar, because he pretty much books to please Inoki. Booking himself to win the G1 wasn't exactly the most rational decision he's ever made, either.
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted September 7, 2002 Well, I would have had Tenzan win the G-1, but Chono wasn't a bad choice, IMO, storyline wise. What with all that NJPW Vs. Foreign army shenadigans.
Guest cynicalprofit Report post Posted September 7, 2002 If Chyna is Muta I think we need to go over to Japan and kick some ass to whoever booked something that stupid

Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted September 8, 2002 The rationale for the NJ vs Shooter army is simple, its NJ's way of telling us that they know how much the fans hated all the shooter bullshit and here is how they intend to stop it.
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted September 8, 2002 Check this out (from SSS): Joanie Laurer, Justin McCully & Shane beat Manabu Nakanishi, El Samurai & Minoru Tanaka (10:21) when Laurer used a Pedigree on Samurai. Yes, Chyna pinned El Samurai. Yes, That El Samurai. 10 years ago he was wrestling Jushin Liger in one of the greatest junior heavyweight matches ever, and now he is getting pinned by someone who used to manage Billy Gunn. Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted September 8, 2002 Samy's been disrespected a whole lot lately. First he gets de-masked to build heat for the Team 2000 feud (which was forgotton) and now he's being jobbed out to build up Chyna. Ah well. You know, this isn't actually that shocking. Samurai hasn't meant anything to New Japan in quite some time. I can't remember the last time he was made to look even semi-important. I like Samurai quite a bit, but I don't think there's much chance of him doing anything meaningfull again, except for the occasional supporting role in tag matches and such. It's still disheartening, though, since NJ used to be so good at keeping the juniors protected, and now they've regressed back to using them to as fodder for the faux-shooters again. Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted September 8, 2002 Hate to say it.... But it looks like Sports Entertainment is overcoming the Best Wrestling on the planet. If Joanie and Goldberg can start beating people in Japan who are 3 times and on Chyna's Case 10 times better, The Days of Wrestling for the sake of putting on Good wrestling is being numbered in Japan and the Americana Wrestling Politics will take over the scene... You could see it coming after the positive reaction the WWE received when they held a show over there. With Puro companies struggling(From a lack of creating new stars.) they got desperate and so Laurer and Goldberg were brought in. Just like the WWE bringing guys up too early and giving one of them the belt before he earned it, the lack of star building the last few years has greated a down turn in the products and brought about desperate measures to turn the tides around. Guest PlatypusFool Report post Posted September 8, 2002 Calm down everyone, this really isn't as bad as it sounds on paper. Chyna has only been pinning juniors, and juniors that aren't going to be important in NJPW anymore at that. Samurai is old, and while he used to be good, is now just average. Gedo is Gedo, solid but unspectacular. Only when she starts pinning popular heavyweights that actually mean something will I get stressed about this. Lets also remember how good the rest of the shows seem to be. Chyna is but one person in a sea of good talent and well done matchmaking. She is only popular because she is an oddity, but this kind of popularity does not last unless it is backed up with talent (e.g the giants). To the person who said that Chono is a terrible booker - fuck off, basically. Under Chono, NJPW has had some of its best matches for years, Nagata looks like a true champion, the feud with NOAH has been built well and slowly, the NJPW vs. Makai Club program is hugely succesful in terms of drawing power and overall, Chono has turned NJPW into the best and most interesting mens promotion in the world right now. Don't get so stressed about the Chyna thing yet folks, remember that she is still a novelty act until she pins someone important.
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2002 Man if Puro starts turning into Sports Entertainment then there won't be much left in the world of wrestling that resembles what wrestling should be. Maybe just maybe someday there will be a revival of "wrestling" and maybe fans can once again appreciate the true "art" of wrestling.
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted September 8, 2002 I agree about Chono's booking. Inoki on the other hand... NJPW has been a whole load of fun this year, with the best matches of the year that I have seen so far. Hopefully, this Chyna thing will go away. Also the re-pushing of Yasuda sucks big time. Shitty wrestler with a bad attitude who isn't over. Inoki sticking his chin in again I presume.
