Where were you on September 11th, 2001?

I had closed at work the previous night and watched RAW on tape, so I had gotten maybe three hours of sleep when my mother burst into my room and told me that a plane had hit the World Trade Center. I very briefly considered blowing it off, but decided to turn the TV on for a few minutes and get the gist of what was happening. Needless to say, I didn't end up going back to sleep. I don't even know how to describe what I felt like. It was a kind of numb shock. In retrospect, I probably should have been more alert considering that I live on a military base and my father was overseas in Kuwait at the time. I just sort of gawked in disbelief at the whole thing, fretting over what was coming next. I ended up having to go to work that night, which was questionable at one point because the base had been completely shut off and no one was allowed in or out.

My buddy Brian, who lived in the apartment across the hall from mine, came and tried to wake me up, but I didn't hear him. He got my roommate up though, and about 5 minutes later he came in pounding on my door, I was all "What the fuck dude? It's early." He said, "World Trade Centers, gone, Pentagon, in flames, get the fuck up." I did, and went across the hall, where everyone was breaking up a pile of dope. My friend Laura was on the phone with her mom, bawling. Everyone else was sitting in a line, either on the floor, on the couch, or on the arms of the couch, riveted on the TV. We sat and watched everything burn, smoked a blunt to calm down, listened to Type O Negative's World coming Down cd. Just seemed apropos. Later that day a few of us went walking around the campus. There weren't any classes because of everything, so there weren't as many people out. The weirdest thing was how quiet everything was. The campus ALWAYS had the sound of a stereo bumping somewhere, or else people talking and laughing. The whole place had a really eerie silence. Weather was perfect, too.

It happened 11.47pm our time, and I was asleep so I didn't find out till next morning (12th).

When I saw it on T.V I could not believe it.

Being in Australia it was like 11:30 PM or something like that and i'm about to go to sleep, before i turn on the TV just in time to see the news coverage of the first plane hitting start. I then watched everything unfold over the next few hours in disbelief.

I actually called in sick to work that day. At about 8:38am. Next thing I know, my friend is calling me sometime after 9 and telling me about NYC & the Pentagon. I, being groggy & half-asleep, thought he was joking. But, alas, no.

Being in the UK it was early afternoon and I was in my room watching wrestling. Suddenly, my mother comes in and tells me to come look at the TV. Not knowing what it was I got up and walked through to the living room. I couldn't believe it. I was greeted by the picture of a smoking WTC tower. I sat down and continued to watch CNN & Sky News. Suddenly, my mother notices that there was a second plane on the screen and then it crashed into the tower. The fact that I had seen that would haunt me forever. I sat there for the rest of the day wondering what the hell was going on. I was really strange seeing that happen.

I was at work when they said something on the Bob and Tom show. We got the TV out and watched. One of the guys I worked with, his wife had a meeting at the Trade Center that morning but hadn't made it there yet when the planes hit. He didn't hear from her for almost 12 hours because of the chaos in the city that day.

I was just finishing college and on my way home when my friend got a text message saying the twin towers had been destroyed.

I didn't believe him until his dad drove up with the radio on, and the news was reporting about the Twin Towers.

I was watching the videos on msnbc.com from a year ago. They trouble me more now than they did then. I wonder why that is.

At least reading the news explains why my flight is landing at Baltimore-Washington International instead of at Dulles or Reagan National.

You're flying tomorrow Kotzen??? Wow.

On 9.11 I wasn't really angry at all, just really sad and depressed. I was like that for about two weeks- just knowing how close my mom was and two people from my town died.

Now when I watch it just makes me angry moreso then sad.

I've never really been angry for what happened on September 11, just sad for all the lost lives.

It's weird, because every once in a while, I'll start thinking that maybe it wasn't as big of a deal as every thinks, then, someone will run a special on it, and it all comes flooding back to me.

Nothing wrong with that. Lots of good deals for those of us on a budget. If you don't do something because of last year you are letting them win. I haven't changed a damn thing and never will. I refuse to live in fear of anything.

Personally I'm flying to Mexico Saturday. Me and the wife got round trip tickets 7days/nights all inclusive for $1035. What a steal.

There was a period of time, a couple of months after it happened, that I became angry whenever I thought it about it (and would imagine a scenario of torture not dissimilar to 212's), but mostly the whole event depresses me. Still, as horrible as it was, I would like to see tomorrow precede as normally as possible. I'm not up for a day full of grieving.

Same. Over time it's actually meant less to me though because of all the media explotation.

I wish the media would leave it alone and allow the families to move on.

I'm not saying that there shouldn't be a memorial and all that Jazz I've just sick and fucking tired of everytime I turn on the tv,radio, or look at a paper for it to bestill being brought up.

I was at my desk. One week removed from finishing my corporate training in the WTC. You see I work for Morgan Stanley. I had just come back from the bathroom when my branch manager comes on the office intercom and tells everyone to turn on CNN. At first, I like most everyone else thought it was an accident, then the second plane hit. The first thought in my head was "Oh fuck, we're at war.". At one point our idiot sales manager comes running around to tell us to contact our clients and tell them that we are ok and still open for business, this was before they announced that the market wasn't opening. We watched the coverage in the office until around 11:30 when we were told to go home. I just sat in my chair and watched for hours, it was this point that I realized that I was just there. I could have been in those buildings. Truly a mindfuck of the highest order.

I totally see your point and all-

It's just I don't see how I could get on a plane and all tomorrow.

I also wish tomorrow wouldn't be treated as a whole day of grieving, this is something we need to move on from.

As far as where I was on Sept. 11, I didn't find out what happened until the 12th. I was driving home on a long trip from my friend's house, and I didn't have a radio at the time. I came home and everyone was all freaked.

I was at the hospital. There were supposed to be doctors taking care of me, but after a certain time the doctors ignored most of the patients as they were listening to the radio or watching TV.

Finally, just so I wouldn't get sick they stuck IV in my vein and went back to the news. They told me if I had the energy to get up, I could go to the waiting room to listen to the radio playing over the speakers. So there I went with that backside-showing robe...and heard the terrible news. Later that day, I went home and saw what I had been imagening in my head all day...it was way more terrifying than I thought.

I have to tell you what happened on September 10th as well.....

September 10th, 2001 8:45am

I was in history class. That day, we were talking about nationalism and being patriotic. I kept checking the clock, to see if class was almost over. At 8:45am, my teacher said these words...

"You see how most people aren't patriotic now? Something big has to happen in order for the whole country to unite."

September 11, 2001 8:40am

I was sitting there in class. We went on to the next section of history.

8:46am

He began talking about the same thing again, how something has to happen for the U.S to unite, and then, a felt a cold shudder in my body. I took nothing of it......

8:57-9:06

I was in homeroom, but the thing is, my HR teacher never mentioned it, since everyone's first hunch was, "it was an accident."

9:11am

I was in Anatomy, and another teacher mentioned to my Anat. teacher that WTC was hit by a plane. We asked what kind of plane hit it, and he said no reports have seen what kind of plane hit it. Rumor was a 747.

Approx. 10am

Our principal told everyone to stop and listen. He then told the news, another plane hit the other tower, and the U.S has concluded that this is a terrorist attack. He said that the school is on lockdown. He told us F-16's are in the air, and are securing air space.

10:40am

More news, the Pentagon was attacked, and then the worst news.....WTC 1 and 2 are gone, they have collapsed. And, if you didn't know, there were rumors that 8 planes were to be hijacked, one was heading to LA, and many other places. We began to be worried.

3:10pm

I am going home on the bus, and since our town lies on a hill, I looked up, and there was A HUGE cloud of smoke looming over the sky. At least 15 blocks away from my house, you can see the Skyline, and far in the east, a billowing cloud is seen. I remember seeing WTC September 9, 2001, as I was coming back from NY. I couldn't believe it.....WTC is gone.

3:30pm

I came home to see that my mom had the cable on, and watched the WTC coverage. I then saw my first footage of the whole attack. I became ENRAGED. I blamed right away ALL THE ARABS. I said NUKE THE BASTARDS. I saw how they fell into history. It was breath-taking. My dad was in Brooklyn, and he uses mass transit. No trains to Times Square, so he was stuck in NY until Saturday.

I went to my room, NO TV. Only channel 2 and NJN was on. (Channel 2 WCBS had backup attennas, and NJN was broadcasting Channel 7 ABC.) As others have said, the most depressing line of the day.....

World Trade Center destroyed, many feared dead.

Family of mine in WTC

Well, there were family of mine in the WTC, but they got out. One of my cousins had just walked into WTC, and they plane hit it, she ran right out.

The other cousin.....twist of fate. She was going for a job interview on the 104th floor. She decided not to go because of the long commute.

Our area was impacted greatly. I live just across the river, and I live in Hudson County. In all, we lost at least 80-90 people, many businesses had to close up shop. About a block away from me, there were some Israelis that owned a grocery store. It was called Al-Salaam Grocery. There was Arabic writing all over the store. September 13th, they closed the store fearing hate crimes. Now, some Indians have took over the store. They renamed the store: Convenience America. An American flag was put up. Alot of businesses left the area.

But then a good part comes up.....

October 2001 :firing: :gas:

U.S vs Al Qaeda, and we wiped the floor with them. We handed their heads to them. I loved when the Fox News Alert came up....U.S attacks Afghanistan...... :headbang:

Now approaching the one year anniversary, I wonder, will we ever have to face that again.

I woke up at 6:30 AM that morning to get ready for school.I went with the bus to school.I arrived and hung out with my friends. We talked about RAW and making fun of this for calling himself "The Undertaker".The bell rang and I went to my computer class. As always,I was checking out the SmarkBoard on EZBoard. The principal announced that an airplane had hit the WTC.Our teacher turned on the TV and I saw the second plane hit the WTC.Some of the teachers were crying. Then at about 1:00 PM we turned on the TV and we did the Pledge of Alligance(sp?).After it was over, our teacher made us do fuckin' work. When I got home,I watched CNN all day.

I was in my first period class, nearly over and my teacher went out to converse with a staff member. She walks in tearing up as she flipped it on and after we saw it (she didn't have the sound on real loud and everyone was baffled) we then saw the second plane hit. Through-out the day I was at first undaunted, at the time I guess I was denying the true tradegy of it. Depending on the teachers we got to watch CNN, and a few we didn't.

I remember walking around humming, "It's the End of the World As We Know It and I Feel Fine." I want to kick my own ass looking back...

Ok, I've got to ask.

Did I go to the only high school in the world that didn't have a cable TV in every classroom?

i was at work listening to WEEI sports radio on the internet when they broke in and said a plane hit the WTC 1 building. I jumped to CNN.com and started telling co-workers.. everybody assumed it was a freak tragic accident........until the second plane hit. then everyone knew it was intentional. i Imeediateletly left work and drove into Boston to get my wife when hearing the pentagon was hit. Ive never been more scared in my life while driving towards all the skyscrapers in Boston. Especially while seeing the traffic from everyone leaving Boston! I wanted my wife out of therer and wasnt going to have her take the train..I was still full of fear though , driving in a tunnel surrounded by the buildings, still not really knowing what was going on. I got her and continued North into Boston suburbs to a relatives house. We didnt want to go back through the city and be in that traffic again on the chance that something happened.

We weren't able to watch TV either. We listened on the radio. I think the signal was out cause the transmitters were in the WTC

I was in Academic Prep (Study Hall, if you will) and I was actually writing an RP for an old Wrestling Trivia Fed called the REW. Anyways, I was basically writing about Bret Hart doing something in....you guessed it, MSG. So, after I finished that, I looked right at the clock....take a guess. 8:46 PM. I'll never forget that in my life...for some reason I HAD to write something about NY and I HAD to look at the clock the EXACT minute they crashed into the first tower.

So I went on to the next class (Modern World) as normal and didn't expect anything of anything...I mean, no one was talking about it. So, around 10:30, I was taking a walk down the hallway during the break and seeing the World Trade Center basically on fire at the top and it looked like a cigarette on a TV in an English class. I thought to myself "The bomb in 93 was in a garage, not on the top.", but I just ignored it then went to lunch.

So, obviously, everyone is talking about it and stuff...so I went straight to my English Teacher (Most realiable source) and said "What in the hell is going on." and he said "2 planes hit the 2 towers, both towers are completely gone." I was just shocked. I said "They are GONE????" and he said "They just got the Pentagon too...everyone is saying it's a Terriorist attack." I then sat down with friends and just sat there thinking "What the fuck is going on." Then a girl said "OH MY GOD, THERE'S A BOMB THREAT AT PORTLAND HIGH SCHOOL" (A local high school) and I lost it. I was literally shaking to death and my hands on my forehead thinking "Am I gunna die?" Then, there was this pyscho guy in downtown Portland who had a gun and was threatening people or something. What a fucking mess.

All in all, there was no bomb....the guy was arrestted, and I just ended up going home and watching 29034823094 hours of news. Fucked up day.
