Guest Your Olympic Hero Posted September 18, 2002 Report Posted September 18, 2002 At my local video store, I found a copy of ECW's Extreme Revolution DVD. I rented it for two matches: The Eliminators vs. The Miracle Violence Connection, and Masato Tanaka vs. Mike Awesome. Eliminators/MVC absolutely sucked. But everything was redeemed with Tanaka/Awesome. HOLY SH*T. This was one of the top 5 ECW matches EVER. ****1/4. Anyone else have any thoughts on their November to Remember showdown?
Guest HBK16 Posted September 18, 2002 Report Posted September 18, 2002 Is that the match where Awesome does a sitting powerbomb from the apron through a table? If thats the match you are talking about, that's one of my personal favorites and IMO one of the best ECW Heavyweight Title match.
EL DANDY~! Posted September 18, 2002 Report Posted September 18, 2002 That's nothing. Those two TOPPED themselves later that year in a TV match! ****3/4, and I'm not lying either. One of the best matches I've ever seen. ABSOLUTELY BRUTAL. Oh, and that powerbomb made Joey sware for the first time ever...and I quoteth... "Excuse my languauge here, but HOLY SHIT!!!"
Guest mesepher Posted September 18, 2002 Report Posted September 18, 2002 those two have had some awesome matches~!!! I don't think I've ever been bored with an Awesome/Tanaka match and they all have tremendous replay value. how was the Raven vs Sandman barbed wire match?
Guest HBK16 Posted September 18, 2002 Report Posted September 18, 2002 those two have had some awesome matches~!!! I don't think I've ever been bored with an Awesome/Tanaka match and they all have tremendous replay value. how was the Raven vs Sandman barbed wire match? I have always loved their matches too. I rewind a lot. Plus the barbwire match was pretty brutal.
Guest Your Olympic Hero Posted September 18, 2002 Report Posted September 18, 2002 those two have had some awesome matches~!!! I don't think I've ever been bored with an Awesome/Tanaka match and they all have tremendous replay value. how was the Raven vs Sandman barbed wire match? I only got to watch the first couple of minutes of the barbed wire match. I will get to the rest of it tomorrow. For the most part so far it's just each guy trying to get the other one into the barbed wire, with Raven getting the advantage. Nothing out of the ordinary. Anyone know where I can find the TV match between these two for download online?
EL DANDY~! Posted September 18, 2002 Report Posted September 18, 2002 Ditto...and BUH-LIEVE ME...that is some GOOOD SHIT!
Guest Anorak Posted September 18, 2002 Report Posted September 18, 2002 Has anyone seen much Awesome/Tanaka stuff from Japan when Awesome was known as Gladiator? How do they compare to ECW matches they had?
Guest Si82 Posted September 18, 2002 Report Posted September 18, 2002 Man I love that match. It's probably my favourite ECW match EVER!!! It's just so damn brutal.
Guest HBK16 Posted September 18, 2002 Report Posted September 18, 2002 Has anyone seen much Awesome/Tanaka stuff from Japan when Awesome was known as Gladiator? How do they compare to ECW matches they had? I saw a couple of their stuff from Japan but some aren't as good as that ECW match. You shold check it out though. Its really good.
Guest Angle-plex Posted September 18, 2002 Report Posted September 18, 2002 How does their N2R match compare to their Heatwave and Anarchy Rulz (After Taz was eliminated) matches?
EL DANDY~! Posted September 19, 2002 Report Posted September 19, 2002 N2R: Absolutely brutal. ****1/4 without a doubt, and definitely one of the five best ECW matches ever. Anarchy Rulz: After Taz was eliminated, it was very good, but I thought it was really good when Taz was in there too. I'd give the post-Taz ***1/2, but altogether, it's better than Heatwave. **** Heatwave: ***3/4. They played off a lot of their FMW shit. I loved the match though. Give it a looksie. But like I said, there was a TV match between the two of them that was ****3/4. It was fucking amazing. If SOMEBODY can find that match, I will so be grateful and stuff.
Guest razazteca Posted September 19, 2002 Report Posted September 19, 2002 which match had Tanaka use the Diamond Dust?
Guest Angle-plex Posted September 19, 2002 Report Posted September 19, 2002 I think he used the diamond dust in Anarchy Rulz.
Guest eiker_ir Posted September 19, 2002 Report Posted September 19, 2002 i think he used in the N2R match too....
Guest Your Olympic Hero Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 What I noticed about Tanaka, though... he uses the roaring elbow, yet it's not even an elbow shot, is it?
EL DANDY~! Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 Here's the deal with the whole elbow thing. In Japan, forearm shots are called elbows because of the fact that the elbow leads. The roaring elbow is just the spinning version. The forearm here is the elbow there.
Guest Incandenza Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 I just watched the Awesome/Tanaka match that's on the Extreme Evolution DVD, and, well, holy shit. I am a mark for Tanaka's NO SELL OF FUCKING AWE~! Too bad the WWE chopped off Awesome's balls.
Guest mesepher Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 I just watched the Awesome/Tanaka match that's on the Extreme Evolution DVD, and, well, holy shit. I am a mark for Tanaka's NO SELL OF FUCKING AWE~! Too bad the WWE chopped off Awesome's balls. I don't watch the WWE very often... but one saturday night I watched the one show a bit and Mike Awesome was on... sad sad stuff.
Guest Incandenza Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 Awesome's current crappiness isn't entirely the WWE's fault--he just can't/won't adjust his style (Regal has the same problem). I never saw too much of him in WCW, but could the guy NOT work a stiff style and still put on a good match? I mentioned Regal in an aside, but the comparison isn't entirely accurate. Regal--inexplicably--was pushed to the IC title, whereas Awesome is a jobber because he didn't shake the Undertaker's hand or something.
Guest treble charged Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 You also have the problem, though, that Heyman isn't exactly fond of Awesome after he left him high and dry pretty much, jumping to WCW when he was still ECW champ (at least he did do the job to Tazz, though, and not toss the belt in the trash). I know they've said that they'd buried the hatchet, but I doubt that Paul has forgiven him, completely.
Guest razazteca Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 why is that Undertaker & Kane can do top rope moves but Awesome, O'Haire, Brock are more less had their balls cutoff. Awesome needs the Kamikazee Awesome Bomb!!!! or at least tag team Awesome with Bubba so they could do table spots.
Guest Incandenza Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 Knowing what Awesome is capable of, it was sad seeing him at a house show last year, putting on the worst match of the night against Bradshaw, AND having its crappiness be more Awesome's fault--he hooked a chinlock TWICE, for a combined total of four minutes(!)--than WWE-approved hoss'. Talk about unmotivated.
Guest Angle-plex Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 How do you guys think Tanaka would do in WWE? He's japanese, so he would probably be jobbing on Velocity.
Guest Incandenza Posted September 21, 2002 Report Posted September 21, 2002 Yeah, he'd be in the same position as Awesome.
EL DANDY~! Posted September 21, 2002 Report Posted September 21, 2002 Bring them both in and tag them together. I did that in my EWR and BOOM! They were over champions. Of course...EWR is SMARTER than Vince...
Guest Incandenza Posted September 21, 2002 Report Posted September 21, 2002 Hey, Tanaka might get over with his NO SELL OF FUCKING AWE~! alone. The marks love no selling--I usually hate it, but what wrestling fan can't enjoy seeing Awesome BLAST THE EVERLOVING SHIT out of Tanaka's head with a supersick chairshot, and Tanaka be all like "FUCK YOU BITCH!" That's just fucking terrific!
Guest CED Ordonez Posted September 21, 2002 Report Posted September 21, 2002 I'm surprised Vince hasn't tried to use the "Tough Sumbitch That Just Sucks Up The Punishment Like a Fucking MAN'S MAN" gimmick Masato used for his ECW tenure. But it's Vince, so I'm taking back that part about being surprised. I will mark out to the point of internal bleeding if a non-Hoss uses the NO SELL OF FUCKING AWE~! in the WWE
Guest Mark4steamboat Posted September 29, 2002 Report Posted September 29, 2002 If you love Tanaka, try finding some of his matches with Hayabusa. Holy crap what a coinicidence, an FMW tape review will be on the smarks krew tomorrow. Wow coincidences rock. It will be up tomorrow night. M4S: Shameless promoter.
