PROMO: “Angels Of The Silences.”

Wrath can return to joy.

Rancor can return to delight.

An extinguished state cannot return to existence.

The dead cannot return to life.

Chapter Twelve of the Sun-Tzu.

They were keeping him for forty-eight hours -- an observation period, they told him. The doctors had brought in some very respected radiologists, very talented technicians; from what they had been able to determine, his neck had not been injured in the fall. As he and Thoth had fallen through the cell, his slightly greater body weight had caused him to slip a little further out of the Balancer’s grasp. He had taken the brunt of the fall on his shoulders, not his neck. Both his collarbones were broken in the fall, he seemed to have torn a quad muscle for no discernable reason, and he would be out of the ring for several months, at least – but his neck had not been damaged. Thanks to nothing more than a fortunate coincidence.

Despite all his training, despite all his skill, it was luck that had saved him.

Again.

“Well….that’s one less commitment that needs to be honored, I suppose. Yuuichiro got his rematch…and won it fairly. Father was right about him, in the end….argh. Christ, my shoulders hurt. I’m still conscious, at least; that’s an improvement over last time…last time. Shit. Edwin’s going to run again before I’m out of this bed. And now he knows I’m looking for him…damn it.”.

A knock on the door jolts him from his mental reverie…

“Come in.”

And Yuuichiro Kaesame walks through the door.

He is still wearing his ring gear, and if the circles under his eyes are any indication, he still is not sleeping very well. The soft whoosh of his pants is barely audible as he crosses the room, without a sound, and plops himself down in a white plastic chair directly across from the occupant’s bed..

Nathan Kibagami laughs despite himself, and despite the burning sensation in his shoulders when he does. “Oh, Lord, of all the people who would stop by, huh? I thought you were supposed to be in Calgary today.”

Yuuichiro – Thoth – smiles. Well, more of a tight-lipped grin than a smile, but you understand.

“I am, actually. I’m catching the red-eye out of here tonight.”

”Good, good. Can’t have you missing a fight on my account.”

The Balancer chuckles. “As if you’re that important.” Kibagami does his best to shrug, but with two broken collarbones, he can only accomplish so much. “I take it you’re going to be all right, then.”

”As all right as I’ll ever be. I’ve come back from worse than this, you know.”

“Yes, I know.” Kaesame pauses. “That’s what brought me here, actually. There are two things I need from you, before I leave.”

“Fire away, little brother.”

“…”

“What?”

”…”

”Oh. You came here about that, did you?” Nathan sighs and pulls himself upright, with no small amount of effort, and looks his blood brother in the eyes. “We’re not technically brothers, I suppose. Half-brothers.”

”I…don’t understand.”

”Neither did I, until I fought our father.”

”…It was you, then.”

Kibagami bows his head. “Yes. It was me. Yoshiaki represented a threat to the Clan’s Japanese operations at the time. I’m not really clear on how, but Nekura sent me to deal with him…I did not kill him when we fought, Yuuichiro. You know that. I was supposed to do it after the contest, but…I couldn’t do it. Not after I found out he was my biological father. I simply could not do it.”

”How the hell did you know?”

”Well, I didn’t, but Jessica did some digging, and there were some things that Nekura had said about proving myself to him…it’s a long story, really, and one you and I don’t have time for right now. Look, I’ll put it this way: before he met your mother, Yoshiaki Kaesame was a VERY popular man. I’d wager there are more than a few of his illegitimate children scattered throughout Aechiba.”

Kibagami attempts to shrug once more, and this time, he manages.

“It just so happens that one of them was me.”

Thoth leans back in his chair and runs his hands across his face. “Jesus…Nathan…I mean, when I read the letter, a part of me knew what it meant…but…damn it, I don’t know what I’m supposed to say to you!”

“There’s nothing you’re supposed to say, little brother,” sighs Nathan. Yuuichiro opens his mouth to protest something else, but Kibagami quickly cuts him off. “Look, I know that I had a hand, at least, in your – in our father’s death. You’ve seen everything I’ve done with the Clan, with Nekura. You know what happened to Doe, to Fury, to Kruger…and if you want to hold me responsible for all of that, you have every right to do it. Every right in the world.”

”No, that’s not…I don’t mean that…”

”Please, Yuuichiro. Hear me out.”

”…”

”Listen. There is history between us – history that maybe our common blood can’t erase. But for me, it can, and it has. I’ve been thinking about a lot of things for the last few hours, Yuuichiro, and I want you to know, before you leave, that I bear you no grudge. None.” He raises his arms as best he can, in a simple gesture of surrender. “To me, you are my brother – you are my family. That is all there is.”

Yuuichiro Kaesame looks blankly at his last living blood relative for a long, long moment…

…then stands.

“You will…you will understand if…I must think about this.”

”Whatever you say, little bro—“

“And I would appreciate it….if you do not call me…that…until I have thought about it.”

Nathan frowns. “I understand…Yuuichiro. Good luck in Calgary, my friend.”

The Balancer turns to walk towards the door…and hesitates.

“Nathan.”

”Yes?”

”There’s one other thing. After Genesis….Edwin left.”

”I’m not surprised, after what that bastard did to Raynor.”

”I know, I know…everyone is rather upset by it.”

”So what’s he been up to since then?”

”We don’t know. MacPhisto left the Coliseum right after his match….and nobody knows where he is.”

“…”

Thoth walks to the door. “Stubby’s talking about suspending him, but…I think he’s going to run again, Kibagami. He’s going to run from the SWF, from the Carnival, from Raynor…and, while he can, from you.”

”…”

“I’m sorry I had to tell you while you’re laid up like this…but I thought that you should know.”

”I don’t know what to say, Yuuichiro. Things are different now, without the Clan…and I have Angel to look after. I don’t know…I just don’t know…”

”I just wanted to tell you…that…I think he’ll be back.” Thoth stands facing the doorway. “I think he’ll be back, and I think you should be ready.”

“Thank you…for the advice. Yuuichiro. He will be prepared for me when he returns...”

The door closes behind the Balancer…and Kibagami casts his gaze towards the corner, where a familiar cane and a black leather trenchcoat lay against the wall.

“And I…will be prepared for him.”

Kaboof. It's a veritable retirement round robin, ain't it?

This, of course, is all going to end with an unsanctioned brawl when Edwin and Silent run across each other in a Steak and Shake somewhere in the Midwest...

"Oh my god!" shouts Larry the fry cook! "Edwin just powerbombed Silent through...through the shakemaker!"

"Our precious shakes!"

Taking a sip of a Strawberry Shortcake deluxe for strength, Edwin rears back...and Silent uppercuts him with a waffle iron!

...

That said, good show, yo. We almost got all the way to the end, and I'm sure we'll find time to get there someday. Peace.

Lol at Edwin's suggestions. Though McDonald's could have so many more possibilities.

Ronald McDonald: "And Silent takes some of the coffee and spits it in the eyes of Edwin! Hot Coffee mist!"

Grimace: "Oh no! That's a lawsuit waiting to happen!"

The Hamburgler: (Excitedly and Happy) RUBBLE RUBBLE!

Seriously, tight tight promo. God damn it, why didn't you say you were the good guy in the first place? Great promo. So now will Silent come back as a face?

Why doesn't Silent just no-sell the injuries?

This was a plothole too huge to overlook, and it really hurt the promo's believeability.

One thumb up.

Ok, I'm done being an idiot.

That was a little weird, seeing Thoth and Silent on the same page despite killing each other dead in Hell in the Cell, and Thoth offering that heads up...

”I just wanted to tell you…that…I think he’ll be back.” Thoth stands facing the doorway. “I think he’ll be back, and I think you should be ready.”

Chilling indeed.

The only reason I still don't like this promo is because it means more time til Edwin/Silent, you BASTARD! DIE! DIE!

Other than that, Chrissy like~!

No no, it did, it was just a little weird and... freaky... seeing it happen. It made sense just fine.

Or was that not directed at me?

Oh, so THAT was the one plot twist about this angle I wasn't getting? YEEESH... well, I would've guessed, but I thought you were more original than THAT... :P

Heh, heh. All kidding aside, I'm sad to see you leave. Goddamn it, why does work and real life have to claim so many of us? Accused 'educations' and 'incomes'... bah to them all! Anyway, I hope you can return someday down the road... you think I'm just going to leave our series hanging at 1-1? :D

Til' that time, good luck, dude. Take it easy.

Another fitting end to Genesis... and you brought the house this time. I await your return and final showdown with Edwin.

Bad thing: Silent's gone, which is something that I probably would've classified good three months ago.

Good thing: My chances of getting bumped are slowly but steadily rising. I think I'm at about 23% now. Anyone know if ELM plans on retiring...?

Anyways, as I said, not too long ago me being slightly sad because Silent was leaving would've been about as likely as a good HHH match occuring. HHHating aside, I'm still waiting on him... but I am sad because Silent is gone. It's been real, man.
