Stuff like getting our link on the front page fixed and getting a column on the front page. Anthing happening in this area? I know Edwin had the inside line on the info for the column, but I haven't seen Edwin around recently (being retired and all...). Anyone? Anyone? Beuller?? I will start working on the main page this afternoon, with a goal of having it posted by the end of next week. My current list of sectrions: - Current Champions - Title History - Columns (anyone wants to write one, send me a PM) - A Brief History - Workers (The stats page) - Stables (past, present and future) - Joining Information - Contact List (e-mails, board names and AIMs) - The Hall of Fame - The SWF Awards (2001 & 2002 Editions) I would also like to have a history of the PPVs and an archive section where we can put some of the older stuff for posterity. That is a ways in the future, but if anyone is actively archiving or has a bunch of old stuff, get it organized and let me know. If anyone has any ideas about the site or any information that might be useful (old stable rosters, the Hall of Fame stuff, etc.), let me know. It won't be as cool as the one Thugg was going to do (I don't know all those fancy newfangled languages, just good 'ol HTML and javaScript for me) but it will be functional and look professional (I hope). It is a crappy Geocities site, but it gives you an idea of where I am going with this. The map is screwed up on the links to the left and I haven't filled in any newsbites or columns, but there is the prototype. The page design...well, it's decent...I think it needs a little work, but you already prefaced this by saying that. I don't know how it looks on your end, but there's some issues on my end. Some graphics don't show up...and the side links aren't quite over to the side...they're kind of pushed off. Is there an image behind it...it's not showing up in IE or Mozilla. Also, in Mozilla, the page is all jacked up...be sure to test it in both IE and Netscape (ie, Mozilla). Just some ideas. If you need any assistance Mark, let me know...don't know how much time I can devote to the site..., but maybe I can give you some design tips or layout help. Guest Grand Slam Report post Posted October 17, 2002 I don't have Netscape at home, so I am unaware of how it looks. My ulterior motive for posting it was to be able to check it out from work, where I have Netscape and a couple of tools that will really help. Netscape does strange things to both HTML tables and graphics, so that will take a little tweaking. No biggie. As far as the layout goes, I agree. Not the best work I've ever done, but then again, I've never had as much info that had to be on the front page as this one. I'm going to continue futzing with it to try and find a better way to lay it all out. Suggestions are, as always, appreciated. As I said before, I am limited to what I know about HTML and JavaScript. I have done a site for work, but to be frank, this site will be much more of a challenge than that one. What I want to do is get something passable up so the info is out there. After v.1 is working and running, then I can move onto doing fancy stuff for v.2. That is the plan anyways. Hopefully, the next update will include a fixed map, some graphics that will tie the site together a little, and some of the sub-pages. Annie: I agree, but right now I think the best way for me to get the stats is right off the stats thread. I did a test the other day and it worked pretty well. So, everyone just make sure that your stats are as up to date as you can make them. So, that is tonight's "State of the Webpage" address. Thanks for your comments. Keep 'em coming. And be honest. If you think the site is repulsive, let me know. I have some other ideas that we might be able to go with. I promise, I won't take any of them personally. After all, its just a page. Guest HVilleThugg Report post Posted October 17, 2002 Yeah, it does seem that way Crusen...no one uses 640x480 anymore...and if they do, they should be shot. I say default it at 800x600 and you'll be safe. When developing a web page, you have to be careful not to judge it based on how it looks on your screen only. Try resizing your browser and such to make sure it scales properly and that everything stays in order for smaller screens. Also, being sure to test on multiple browsers is a must...you can download netscape for free if you want...i did that just for the purposes of testing. Are you using javascript to pull the stats off the stats page? How are you doing it? Can I see your code? Da "trying to help despite the constant ass raping" H PS - anyone that's got a lot of familiarity with apache configurations and/or cgi using java, hit me on AIM....i need major help. The Joining, Awards, the Title History and Hall of Fame Pages are up. Let me know what you think. And, on second thought, if anyone out there knows HTML and wants to mark up their stats, feel free. Send them to me at [email protected] Some questions that need answered: Could Stubby (or somebody) update (edit) the current champions thread? That would rock. Is the joining info up to date? If not, can someone update it and let me know what has changed? And finally, who should be listed in the Contact page, and what info do you want on there? Send it to me in a PM if you like. And, all those people who asked to do Columns... get them to me as soon as you can. One last thing... I need two volunteers... 1. One to write the "Brief History of the SWF" 2. The first layout was obviously lacking a little, but this one looks quite good. The color scheme is nice, the menus are nice, and overall, the layout feels quite nice. Sure, a little tweaking needs to be done, and the rest of the site needs to be constructed, but I think that if you build the rest of the site at a quality like this one, we'll be in great shape. BTW, if you need anything, I'll see what I can do to help you out. Keep in mind, I can't program anything, but I can still help with non-technical stuff.
