Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted October 21, 2002 Awesome match.....just wanted to hear what you guys have to say. My personal rating is ****3/4 and MOTY right off the bat, but I'd probably have to watch it again. What do you guys think?
Guest DJ Jeff Report post Posted October 21, 2002 Well, I never did watch No Mercy, but I figured this match would be possibe Match of the Year contender. Though, Angle vs. Benoit from Unforgiven might end up being Match of the Year. Oh yeah, how was No Mercy?
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted October 21, 2002 No Mercy was ALOT better than expected. Brock/Taker was above **, too.
Guest Zero_Cool Report post Posted October 21, 2002 I thought that the tag match was ****1/2. But, I bet if I watched it again, I'd probably give it ****3/4. Awesome and clean ending, too.
Guest DJ Jeff Report post Posted October 21, 2002 *wishes he had ordered No Mercy* Oh well, maybe this means the Survivor Series will be good as well, which I'm ordering just because.
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted October 21, 2002 I gave it ****3/4 cause the fact the right team (Angle/Benoit) went over with the right guy (Angle) going over the right guy (Edge)...and it was clean.
Guest DJ Jeff Report post Posted October 21, 2002 Judging from what happened at No Mercy, and on Smackdown, I think it's going to be Angle & Benoit© vs. Eddie & Chavo for the Tag Team Titles at the Survivor Series. Hmmmmm....That might be a good match.
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted October 21, 2002 Scott Keith must read my mind cause for the past 2 months the really good matches (HBK/HHH from Summerslam, Edge/Angle from SD, Edge/Eddy from SD, Benoit/Angle from Unforgiven) we've given the exact same rating: "Benoit/Angle v. Edge/Mysterio ended up nearly carrying the entire show, as they put on a ****3/4 Match of the Year to blow away everything else on the show. General dementia seems to have swept the 'net, as Brock-UT is being called everything from "good" to "classic" by apologists. If you want to see a bloody match, this is the one to see, but I was bored silly for most of the ridiculously long match. How bad WERE the women's matches? What Muta rating does Undertaker earn? Stay tuned later tonight for these answers, and MORE! "
Zetterberg is God 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2002 Seriously, this match was fucking amazing. Some new innovative moves by Edge and Rey, plus non-stop action that went on even when you thought it was done. Easily ****3/4. Made this whole PPV worth it. Just imagine if there's a rematch. Guest DJ Jeff Report post Posted October 21, 2002 So, this was the Match of the Night by far then? Well, I can't say I'm totally surprised, and I'm hoping, like many others, they have a rematch, maybe even at the Survivor Series. Even better, a Triple Threat match for the Tag Team Titles at the Survivor Series, Angle & Benoit© vs. Edge & Mysterio vs. Eddie & Chavo. That would have the potential of being **** at least. Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted October 21, 2002 As usual, I'm skeptical until I see it. Judging by how most tag matches are worked these days, I can't imagine it beating Benoit/Angle, but you never know.
Guest Zero_Cool Report post Posted October 21, 2002 The best thing about the match was, it was about thirty minutes long. Kudos to Steph, Heyman, or Comic Guy...well, they gave it the time needed. Above all of that, did you guys realize that they give the tag match more time than that overbooked piece of shite Kane/Triple H?
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted October 21, 2002 More time doesn't always mean better. They were smart not to give HHH/Kane a lot of time, for obvious reasons.
Guest ISportsFan Report post Posted October 21, 2002 More time doesn't always mean better. They were smart not to give HHH/Kane a lot of time, for obvious reasons. But Kane v. HHH got 16 minutes... that's a whole lot of time for WWE matches. And from the reports on the net, all 16 minutes of that sucked. Jason
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted October 21, 2002 Can't say I'm shocked there. Trips is the next Dusty.
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Report post Posted October 21, 2002 I'm still not sold on Benoit/Angle as MOTY. Eddy/Edge from the same show was, in my mind, a LOT better. Obviously, I'm not saying Benoit/Angle sucked or anything before anybody gets a thorn up their ass. As far as the tag match goes, it was great, but I'm not really sure about MOTY great, though. I have to watch it again. It's easily ****, though.
Guest Nater Report post Posted October 21, 2002 Unfortunately, my viewing was interrupted.. only got to see the first 1/2 of the match and it was leading up really well. I guess I really missed out
Guest Brian Report post Posted October 21, 2002 I'm still not sold on Benoit/Angle as MOTY. Eddy/Edge from the same show was, in my mind, a LOT better. Thank you. Someone who agrees with me. Well, maybe not a lot better but better nonetheless. I also felt their blow-off match was as good, if not better.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted October 21, 2002 I liked Benoit/Angle better for the pure wrestling and athleticism, Eddy/Edge, while good, I don't think was qutie as athletic...And really come on, while Eddy can work a watch, Benoit AND Angle can work one...Edge is pretty inconsistent, and seems that he's only as good as his opponent is, much like Kane. Benoit and Angle bring people up to their respective levels so when they work a match together they bring it up far beyond what most anyone else on the roster can achieve, save for maybe Jericho or Eddy. .....WHILE WE'RE HAVING THESE BENOIT/ANGLE MATCHES LET'S GET SOME JERICHO/EDDY!!!!!! Guest humongous2002 Report post Posted October 21, 2002 The year hasn't ended yet, i bet Angle is going to pull off another MOTY before the year ends.
Guest Brian Report post Posted October 21, 2002 Edge was wrestling way over his head, moreso than with Angle, because Eddie brought a more defined story to each one of his matches and let it unfold intricately so we don't get the holes that Angle leaves. Guest I Fear Hogans Air Guitair Report post Posted October 21, 2002 Personally I thought the matcch was Around ****1/4 but seeing as though Angle went over Edge Clean I give it a ****1/2. Team God It's just such an Approrite name.

Eh, Eddy's better at in-ring psychology and at telling a story then Angle could ever be and one thing that annoys me about Angle(that RickyChoysu touched on a while back) is how he rarely builds anything up, especially his own finisher. While Benoit/Angle was pretty damn good, none of the psychology really went anywhere while Edge/Eddy had both awesome storytelling and great psychology to boot. Guest Cataclysm911 Report post Posted October 21, 2002 I'd give it ***1/2. I think that RVD/Benoit from SummerSlam is MotY so far..
Guest Brian Report post Posted October 21, 2002 I thought I was the only one who thought that way APO. Well, the story of them going straight at it as athletes then having to cheat at the end with Benoit winning was good, and the mat work was good but it was onyl really a short sprint and that's really what Angle is capable of. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted October 21, 2002 Yeah. Apparently is was a great match. Chances of any of them being pushed: 0 But at least the tag scene will be good while Brock ruins the main event.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted October 22, 2002 Wow. That match was superb. Better than anything they've done on Smackdown, even, these past few weeks. Rey was frickin' amazing. Edge bumped and took a beating like a champ, and Benoit and Angle were great. Best tag match I've seen in ages, easily, with a *perfect* finish. Everyone looks frickin' great. You know what's wonderful about it that I don't think anyone's mentioned yet? "He's holding Edge in that headlock/leglock combination, letting him see his partner so he gets even more frustrated!" "Rey's in a bad place--on the mat in a front facelock with the 1996 Olympic Champion!" TAZZ AND COLE SOLD THE RESTHOLDS LIKE REAL MOVES. These two have come LIGHT YEARS in their commentating skills, and without a doubt have surpassed Lawler and Ross at this point. They explained character motivations, how Benoit's throat-cut and snot rockets signal that he's going upstairs...Tazz and Cole had all the nuances down perfectly, and that helped the match a LOT. So far, it's tied with the original TNA Week 2 4-Way X Title match for the best I've seen this year. Kick-ass stuff.

Everyone who had October - November 2002 in the "Smarks turn on Angle" pool, get your tickets ready.
Guest Brian Report post Posted October 22, 2002 We're not turning on him. We're just telling it as it is. Angle's great, especially in the confines of where he works. But he's not as great as Benoit or Guerrero. Maybe even others but I'm not going to go inciting a riot.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted October 22, 2002 For all accounts...HBK-HHH still is most standout match...but from a wrestling aspect...only a rematch can top this...
