Any of the Mysterio/Edge v Benoit/Angle tag title matches right now are MOTYCs in my book. The action and in-ring storytelling from last night's 2/3 falls match was pretty damn awesome.

I'm of the school of thought that MOTC's should be singles matches only, unless there is a feud of some kind. That's whay there are only three canidates in my mind:

 

Benoit vs. Angle: Unforgiven

 

HBK vs. HHH: SummerSlam (Sentimental reasons)

 

Brock Lesnar vs. The Rock: SummerSlam (Historical Reasons)

I love the Smackdown Tag Match from No Mercy the most this year. Although I haven't seen this past Smackdown's Tag Title match yet, I'm trying to find it on the internet.

i'd have to watch it again, but my memory of angle/benoit from unforgiven is of the best one this year. that was probably the single greatest beginning to a match i've ever seen (better than the wrestlemania one cause the wrestling seemed smoother--and i liked that touch of continuing to mat wrestle outside, it showed the pure hatred), and the whole ending submission sequence was just surreal. the german suplex sequence was also awesome, & everything else (including the 'pointless brawling' outside) was great as well.

I don't get PPVs, but I did dl Benoit/Angle, and the match is almost as good as the one from WM17, so I'mma go with that one.

I'll go with Eddy vs. RVD from Judgment Day...just because I haven't bothered to watch any of the Angle/Benoit/Edge/Misterio matches that I downloaded yet.

HHH vs. HBK at Summerslam. It had me at the edge of my seat, something which can't be said about any of the "Super 6"(Edge, Mysterio, Guerreros, Angle, and Benoit) matches, as good as they were.

Chris Benoit vs Kurt Angle from Unforgiven would probably be my choice right now, just ahead of Rock vs Jericho from RR, Edge/Rey vs Benoit/Angle from No Mercy and RVD vs Eddy from Judgment Day. I'm probably forgetting something else that was good though.

 

EDIT: Eddie Guerrero vs Edge from Unforgiven was another good one that would be among my top choices.

By mid year I didn't think there would be this many different picks for WWE MOTY, so needless to say I'm surprised.

 

I think my favorite was HBK v HHH as well, also really liked Edge-Guererro from SD last month too.

I don't have a pick for MOTY yet because I still want to see the Elimination Chamber match before making that decision...

 

But I will note that this is the first year in a REALLY long time that I can remember there being as many Free TV matches under consideration as PPV matches. Last year had a few, but I think there has been a greater number of PPV-quality matches on Free TV this year.

 

For all the shit they've thrown at us on Raw (and some on Smackdown), they've really given us some gems too.

I have a few:

 

Hogan vs. the Rock from Wrestlemania 18

Lesnar vs. the Rock from Summerslam

HBK vs. HHH from SummerSlam

Angle vs. Edge from Judgment Day

 

I think either of those 4 should be the Match of the Year. I still haven't watched Angle vs. Benoit from Unforgiven or Angle & Benoit vs. Edge & Mysterio from No Mercy to really judge those matches.

i've seen all of the above mentioned matches and the only two that are far and away better than anything else are the no mercy tag match and benoit-angle from unforgiven. many of the other matches are good-great but not motyc-worthy imo.

 

as for the REAL MOTY, watch low-ki vs. american dragon from ROH2. that match blows away almost anyhing else i have seen in any promotion.

Chris Benoit & Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio & Edge - No Mercy

RVD v. Eddy ladder match on RAW, it showed how good RVD could be if he wrestles ECW style, and Eddy is God's gift to wrestling period. I also like the tag team matches with Angle/Benoit, Edge/Rey and the Guerreros even though sometimes Edge doesn't deserve to be in the same ring with those world class athletes.

I'll go with Rock/Hogan simply the fact I've never marked out so much in my life.

 

Rey/Edge vs. Benoit/Angle at No Mercy and Benoit/Angle @ Unforgiven were the best pure wrestling matches I've seen all year.

He never said Rob did, simply that when Van Dam works ECW style he's entertaining, and the Eddy could wrestle that style in addition to all the other shit our favorite SD! superstar can do.

Edge was carried like a suitcase in all those matches with Angle,Eddy and Benoit. RVD has good matches with all 3 of them too(maybe it was boring to you but everyone is entitled to their own opinions, even Edgeheads). RVD has also had great watchable exciting matches with Taker, Y2J and even Tommy Dreamer, while Edge was stinking up the ring with Booker and Regal.
