Chunk 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2002 We've still got almost 2 months left, but for me there are only 3 contenders. 1) The SD tag finals 2) Benoit/Angle from UNFORGIVEN 3) HHH vs HBK at Summerslam Eddie and edge have put on good matches as well, but I think my final choice will come from the list of 3 above. Its really hard to choose bewteen them, but i think i will have to go for ANGLE/BENOIT from Unforgiven, simply because, at that point it seemed a little fresher. In the tag match, they used spots from the single match, and we had seen matches from those 6 against each other sooooo many times. The tage match had a better finish, and i didnt like the Angle/Benoit finish all that much, but at the moment it still gets my vote. Is someone going to set up a poll, ince the top 5 contenders (or whatever) have been decided upon by this thread? It sounds like a good idea to me. ChUnK! Guest RenegadeX28 Report post Posted November 9, 2002 -HBK vs HHH (That match had so much emotion, and of course the return of HBK!) -Angle//Benoit vs. Rey/Edge: 2/3 falls (Man! That was an awesome match! PPV Caliber!) -Hogan vs Rock (Mark out moment of the year for me! Those Hogan chants, the legdrop, one of the best) Out of these three, I pick Rock vs Hogan. Guest JaKyL25 Report post Posted November 9, 2002 The JaKyL comes OUT of Lurk mode for his Top 10 list! Top 10 Matches of the Year thus far: 1.)Benoit vs. Angle--Unforgiven 2.)Angle vs. Edge--Backlash 3.)Benoit/Angle vs. Edge/Mysterio--No Mercy 4.)Rock vs. Jericho--Royal Rumble 5.)Rock vs. Angle vs. Undertaker--Vengeance 6.)Guerrero vs. Edge--Unforgiven 7.)Guerrero vs. RVD--Judgment Day 8.)Guerrero vs. Edge--Smackdown! 9.)Angle vs. Austin-- 1/28 RAW 10.)Guerrero vs. RVD--RAW Ladder Match I find HHH vs. HBK to be a HIGHLY overrated piece of crap that gets praised simply because of HBK. I find Rock vs. Hogan to be a piece of crap, but at least most people acknowledge that they enjoy it because of the spectacle and atmosphere, not the actual match itself. I agree that it may well be a MUST-SEE match of the year, if only for that unforgettable crowd, but it wasn't a good match. Kind of like HitC 2 is must-see, but not a quality match by any stretch of the imagination.
Guest The Hamburglar Report post Posted November 9, 2002 Edge was carried like a suitcase in all those matches with Angle,Eddy and Benoit. RVD has good matches with all 3 of them too(maybe it was boring to you but everyone is entitled to their own opinions, even Edgeheads). RVD has also had great watchable exciting matches with Taker, Y2J and even Tommy Dreamer, while Edge was stinking up the ring with Booker and Regal. RVD's matches with Benoit were shite. An example of a face utterly failing to engage the crowd. The Eddie ladder match is an overrated to hell spotfest. Believe, I ain't no Edgehead, as his character has sucked the big one all year, only becoming bearable since he started becoming involved in great matches and speaking less. Edge can sell well sometimes, RVD can sell well never. Since the novelty has worn off, RVD's flip-flops and shitty strikes now vie with Edge's Thousand Bulldog/DDT variations Plus Spear for crappiest offense around. Edge's matches with Angle, Eddy and Benoit are better than RVD's matches with said three by a mile. If he was carried, at least he's more receptive to it than RVD. Anyways, MOTY's so far for me are No Mercy Tag Angle-Benoit Unforgiven. Edge-Eddy Smackdown. Ring of Honour three-way with Low Ki, AmDragon and Daniels. The best spotfest I've ever seen, find it, watch it, love it. Honourable mentions to: Hogan-Rock. HHH-Michaels. Lesnar-Rock. Lesnar-Taker Cell match. None of these could be said to have fantastic wrestling, but I felt that they told strong stories that were really involving, basically matches that reach the goal of a WWE style "epic", so to speak. Guest eirejmcmahon Report post Posted November 10, 2002 HBK vs HHH at Summerslam - emotional rollar coaster of a match, have yet to see a contest this year that captured the crowd the way that one did. The roof just about blew off the place when HBK prepped for the final superkick, almost imploded when HHH reversed it to set up a pedigree and went into orbit when HBK flipped over for the pin. I've seen better technical matches this year - the best of which would be a tie between the Benoit vs Angle and Benoit/Angle vs Rey/Edge matches.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted November 10, 2002 I just finished watching the ROH three way between LowKi, Daniels and Dragon (since it's been mentioned a couple times) That was a hella-entertaining match. I didn't like it as much as the Ki/Styles/Lynn 3 way (the first one) but it was still better than anything I've seen in WWE this year... Although I haven't watched Benoit/Angle from Unforgiven yet (still on my computer waiting to be clicked on) I also thought the Dragon/LowKi match from one of the RoH early shows was really good too. If you are going for crowd reaction, nothing beats Hogan/Rock. Best match that I have seen (I too haven't seen Angle/Benoit) is the Tag Title match from No Mercy (and I didn't see it live), by a landslide.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted November 10, 2002 I think HBK v. HHH should win, if for no other reason than for me to remember all the smarks who had to eat crow on that great night. you're right, the smarks did eat crow and the match was hella entertaining BUT look at the match... they were so unsure of how it would turn out they had to resort to garbage stipulations to get it over. plus, whenever hhh was on offense, the match moves....so....slow. it also happened to be the only garbage match of the entire show. take away the "anything goes" stips and i have a gut feeling that the match would have been more comparable to test-taker than anything else on the show. as for bps, i can see why you would like the week 8 3-way better but i think it really is just a personal preference on which wrestlers you like more. i mark out for am. dragon and daniels more than for styles and lynn. i think that makes the difference. who's moveset do you enjoy more? both 3-ways were nearly flawless in their execution so it really comes down to moveset. as for american dragon-low-ki, that is the MOTY, no doubt. the build, the big moves, the sory in the ring, everything was rock fucking solid. personally, i think tht is the match benoit and angle should have but haven't had yet. No doubt about that. If I had seen some more of American Dragon has really grown on me after seeing only 2 friggin matches. That kid knows what he's doing in there. I think I gave the edge to the TNA one just based on my familiarity with the guys. The RoH one had the better ending by far. " I was very impressed by this match. I downloaded it from someone's hotline server and it sat on my computer for a long time. Then one day I clicked it and was treated to one of the most exhausting and yet somehow edge of your seat wars I've ever seen.

Guest packwingfn Report post Posted November 11, 2002 I just watched the No Mercy Tag Title Match and that is THE match of the year, no doubt, even though, Edge/Eddy from SD and RVD/Benoit are close 2nds. Despite the WWE not being that good this year, we still have seen alot of great matches at least
Guest Slapnuts00 Report post Posted November 11, 2002 Well first of all, theres still 2 months left, but if I were to make a top ten list (to hopefully air on New Years again, even though they'll include a token pudding bowl match) of just WWE matches (since NWA-TNA had a few big ones) Id say: 10. No Mercy: Brock Lesnar vs. Undertaker 9. RAW: Eddy Guerrero vs. RVD 8. Vengeance: Rock vs. Angle vs. Undertaker 7. Summerslam: HBK vs. HHH 6. Wrestlemania: Hogan vs. Rock 5. Smackdown: Angle vs. Edge 4. Royal Rumble: Rock vs. Chris Jericho 3. Smackdown: Edge vs. Eddy Guerrero 2. No Mercy: Edge/Mysterio vs. Angle/Benoit 1. Unforgiven: Benoit vs. Angle This is keeping in mind also that I missed a bunch of the PPVs in the middle of the year, and tend to rate a good PPV main event match (like Brock/Taker or the Vengeance 3 way) over a meaningless but good midcard match (like a bunch of Eddy vs. RVD or Angle vs. Edge matches that Inever saw). I also tend to give higher praise to TV matches since it's rarer to have good ones on free TV. Thats just my opinion so far...
Guest The Tino Standard Report post Posted November 11, 2002 Yeah, the Rock-Angle-Undertaker match from Vengeance in July hasn't gotten enough respect. That was far and away the best three-way match ever in WWE. I'd say one of the 10 best matches this year for sure too.
Guest eirejmcmahon Report post Posted November 11, 2002 If you are going for crowd reaction, nothing beats Hogan/Rock. Well I was going for my reaction too! Hogan/Rock never grabbed me but I was up off the couch several times during HHH/HBK and almost put my foot through the tele when HHH went for the pedigree. It's been the only match this year to fully grab me on an emotional level.
