LaParkaYourCar Posted November 10, 2002 Report Posted November 10, 2002 I love this show. I've always liked improv comedy. I was just wondering if there were any other fans on here of this show?
Guest phoenixrising Posted November 10, 2002 Report Posted November 10, 2002 I love the show. Especially the British version. The American one is slowly growing on me, though I still hate the "Game with Drew" segment at the end.
Guest SP-1 Posted November 10, 2002 Report Posted November 10, 2002 The American version I don't really like all that much. On their own, all those regulars are funny, but they don't mesh well as a group. The British version I absolutely love. I used to make it a point to catch it on Comedy Central in the afternoons. SP
Guest DARRYLXWF Posted November 10, 2002 Report Posted November 10, 2002 Yeah, in Australia they show both te British and the American version, and its all good. The episode featuring Robin Williams was pretty funny.
Guest Kingpk Posted November 10, 2002 Report Posted November 10, 2002 I love the show too. Has anyone actually tried doing improv? Me and a bunch of my friends do it from time to time, to mixed results.
LaParkaYourCar Posted November 10, 2002 Author Report Posted November 10, 2002 I like both British and English versions. Mostly because of Colin, Ryan, and Wayne. I'm not big on Drew actually doing skits, but as a host he's okay.
Guest razazteca Posted November 10, 2002 Report Posted November 10, 2002 speaking of Drew Carey, what do you think of the Improv live show of the Drew Carey Show, that is done once a year.
Guest MDH257 Posted November 10, 2002 Report Posted November 10, 2002 They were fun at first. I heard they weren't going to do them anymore. Clive Anderson is a better host than Drew. I wish some of the people from the British version would show up on the American version. People like Michael McShane and Tony Slattery. I saw Josie Lawrence was on the U.S. version once. Have any others been on?
Guest El Satanico Posted November 10, 2002 Report Posted November 10, 2002 Well if i'm not mistaken Colin was on the UK version and he's a regular on the US version. The UK version is superior to the US version, but the US version can be pretty good too on occasion. The only thing i don't like about the UK version are the references to UK stuff which of course i don't "get".
Guest dreamer420 Posted November 10, 2002 Report Posted November 10, 2002 I love the British version as well, mainly because I can't stand Drew Carey and the line up of comedians are way funnier. Ryan and Colin rule.
Guest Kagato Otaku Posted November 10, 2002 Report Posted November 10, 2002 Colin, Ryan, Chip Esten, Greg Proops, and Wayne Brady, among others, have appeared on the original show. The British version was superior. Our Whose Line has a cast that's pretty much set now for every show - Colin, Ryan, Wayne, Other. No difference. The round-robin of the old show was better, even on days when you'd end up with a REAL bad draw. Greg is criminally underused these days. And Chip needs a boot to the head.
Guest DrTom Posted November 10, 2002 Report Posted November 10, 2002 I prefer the British version. Drew Carey cackles too much, and I find him really annoying. Clive Anderson, on the other hand, is much more understated and dry, as the host of a show like that should be. Once again, the British trump the Americans when it comes to humor.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted November 10, 2002 Report Posted November 10, 2002 The UK version is superior to the US version, but the US version can be pretty good too on occasion. The only thing i don't like about the UK version are the references to UK stuff which of course i don't "get". Completely agreed here. Though Mike McShane is funnier than Wayne Brady, IMO. Something about being a total fatass just makes someone funnier to me.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted November 10, 2002 Report Posted November 10, 2002 Uh-oh. To clarify my earlier post: Never saw the British version -- only basing my decision on Drew. I've seen it 4/5 times, and each time I sat through with a straight face (much like I do whenever watching SNL for the past 10 years or so...)
Guest godthedog Posted November 10, 2002 Report Posted November 10, 2002 I love the show too. Has anyone actually tried doing improv? Me and a bunch of my friends do it from time to time, to mixed results. i played some improv games in drama back in high school, and it's hard. i was always good at improvising off a script & taking it in some other direction, but starting from scratch is a craft that takes years to hone. they make it look easy, but they've been doing it for a long ass time.
Guest DARRYLXWF Posted November 11, 2002 Report Posted November 11, 2002 I actually noticed a bit of joke recycling from the UK version to the US version.
Guest LaParkaMarka Posted November 11, 2002 Report Posted November 11, 2002 Whose Line kicks ass. Colin, Ryan, Wayne, and Greg are my favorites, though a lot of the others have had their moments. Tony Slattery from the old version could be quite funny, same with good ol Mike McShane. Drew is definately worse than Clive, but I don't find the guy offensive or anything. It's still a very good show...better than most sitcoms out there IMO.
Guest hardyz1 Posted November 11, 2002 Report Posted November 11, 2002 One of my favorite shows. I like both the UK and US versions. One time, though, I was watching a UK episode on Comedy Central, and neither Ryan or Colin were on it. I was thinking, "What the hell?" It just wasn't the same.
Guest starvenger Posted November 11, 2002 Report Posted November 11, 2002 Some of the "Clive goes to Hollywood" eps are great, as they had some actors that wouldn't normally be on the Disneyfied version such as Phil LeMarr and Debra Wilson from MadTV. Then there are the disappointments. Stephen Fry was quite the letdown, Stephen Corbert(sp?) from the Daily Show wasn't all that great. Drew just isn't cut out for improv. And of course, the less said about Whoopi, the better. Let's hope that Joanie Laurer's appearance is just one of those "cameos" a la Miss America. Otherwise we're in for 30 minutes of painful comedy.
Guest Hotbutter Spoontoaster Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 They're finally putting Whose Line Is It Anyway? on DVD, which is awesome. Fucking great show. Release date for Season 1, Volume 1 is this Tuesday, September/26th/2006. Whose Line Is It Anyway? - Season 1, Vol. 1 (Uncensored) Whose Line Is It Anyway? - Season 1, Vol. 1 (Censored)
ChrisMWaters Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Too bad they're not releasing the British version. I liked that version better than the US one for some reason.
Timmy8271 Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 I use to love the american version until they had people like Kathy Griffin on.
Ginger Snaps Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 The only version I liked was the British one.
Vampiro69 Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 I think that I am going to pick up the uncensored version.
CanadianChris Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 Too bad they're not releasing the British version. I liked that version better than the US one for some reason. It was funnier and less repetitive. And it had Josie Lawrence. And it DIDN'T have Drew Carey.
muzz Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 Too bad they're not releasing the British version. I liked that version better than the US one for some reason. It was funnier and less repetitive. And it had Josie Lawrence. And it DIDN'T have Drew Carey. She's definitely the best female they've had on either versions, just unfortunate she couldn't do the American version as well. I have no idea why Kathy Greenwood was on so much, I would have rathered Denny Siegal and Karen Maruyama. Clive Anderson > Drew Carey. It was hilarious any time Proops and he would just go back and forth.
cd213 Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 I liked the American version but that was because I thought Colin, Wayne and Ryan were gold. Mostly everyone else was garbage, except when Josie showed up everyone now and then. The british version was great. I HATE Nick Cannon's Wild'n Out. It's a wannabe racist version of Who's Line. It needs to be taken off the air right now.
Vampiro69 Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 I actually thought that Kathy Greenwood was one of the better fill-ins. I still think that outside of a few women, men are better at comedy then women.

Plus it had Tony Slattery. *Remembers when he told Clive to F**k off because of a bad round of Party Quirks.
