The Dames Posted November 10, 2002 Report Posted November 10, 2002 I could have sworn that it went down to 150. I'm on the verge of buying it so I can get Vice City, but I don't know if I will if its still 200. Do you know if they've slashed prices? Do you think it'll go down by X mas time? Dames
Guest Kagato Otaku Posted November 10, 2002 Report Posted November 10, 2002 Gamecube's the console that went down from $199 to $149. Happened some time ago, around the time X-Box dropped its price. The PS2 remains $199, and is likely to stay that way for some time. They sell incredibly well, so price-slashing would cause them to lose quite a bit of money.
Guest KingOfOldSchool Posted November 10, 2002 Report Posted November 10, 2002 Kagato is right on. The ps2 is so ahead of the pack, and still selling so well, that a price drop would be foolish when there's still money to be made at the current price. Right now the consoles list at $199 for the ps2 and XBox, and $149 for the GameCube. Should the ps2 drop their price, it probably won't happen until sometime next year, for the next holiday season. I was at least holding out for a holiday bundle pack from Sony, similar to what the GC or XBox released, at which point I'd buy a ps2. But again, that'd be risking your potential profits, and Sony doesn't need a special bundle to help move the product at this point. I don't think anything will happen for the Christmas rush, because if Sony were to pull the trigger on something, they would have done it by now.
Guest The Superstar Posted November 10, 2002 Report Posted November 10, 2002 Yeah...I can't believe Xbox is packing a system, new small controller, Jet Set Radio Future AND Sega GT 2002 for ONLY $200. Seeing as I paid $100 more just for the system...*cry*
Guest BifEverchad Posted November 10, 2002 Report Posted November 10, 2002 I bought my PS2 a few months ago for $299.........of course, I'm Canadian.
Guest KoR Fungus Posted November 11, 2002 Report Posted November 11, 2002 Yeah, Sony's in a weird position. It used to be that whenever a company cut their price or came up with some great bundle, the competition would follow suit. But since Sony's so far ahead of everyone and has a totally insurmountable lead, they were able to leave their price point at $299 for almost two years, and now they're leaving it at $199 despite X-Box bundling an extra controller and two games for the same price. I doubt they'll drop their price until E3, so I'd say just go ahead and buy one. It's certainly worth it.
Guest dreamer420 Posted November 11, 2002 Report Posted November 11, 2002 I guess I'm in the same boat as you Dames. Of course I'll be paying way more since I live in Canada too.
Agent_Bond34 Posted November 12, 2002 Report Posted November 12, 2002 I believe Costco has their own little bundle for PS2, XBox and GameCube. In my area, they have a PS2, Two games, and a memory card in a bundle for I believe $200. I could very well be wrong about that. Next time I visit there, I'll check the price.
Guest DJ Jeff Posted November 12, 2002 Report Posted November 12, 2002 At SuperStore, where I work, the price for a PS2 is $230, and that doesn't come with any games. The XBox is just a bit more expensive, but it comes with two games.
Guest El Satanico Posted November 12, 2002 Report Posted November 12, 2002 Well unless you live 100 miles away from another store that sales electronics your store must do terrible business.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted November 12, 2002 Report Posted November 12, 2002 Well unless you live 100 miles away from another store that sales electronics your store must do terrible business. He's Canadian. And in case you didn't notice, someone above said PS2's were $300 just a couple months ago up there, so $230 would be quite good if they're still at that rate.
Guest DJ Jeff Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 Our competition, Wal-Mart, sells them at a cheaper price. As does Zellers. If you buy it at Zellers, you get a game with it. I'm not too sure about Wal-Mart. We've had a few customers decide to check out the other stores after seeing our price. Oh, and our store doesn't do terrible business, since we sell more than just PS2s. We're something like Wal-Mart actually.
Guest treble charged Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 Yeah, usually PS2s retail for around $200 in Canada, so it's not like Jeff's store is charging an obscene amount as compared to other places.
Guest Zack Malibu Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 Right now at KB toys, you can get PS2 for $199, but you can also get a free accesory pack including a carry case, RCU adapter and extra controller for free with purchase. Also, any game purchase over $100 entitles you to a free years subscription to GamePro. I'm another one who's getting PS2 simply for the GTA games (3 and Vice City, as well as Smackdown Shut Your Mouth)
Guest converge241 Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 The XBox is dropping soon to 150(probably the day after thanksgiving) around the same time the PS2 is probably going to be offering a same price, but with extras xmas package (games, another controller- things like that)
Guest starvenger Posted November 15, 2002 Report Posted November 15, 2002 The XBox is dropping soon to 150(probably the day after thanksgiving) around the same time the PS2 is probably going to be offering a same price, but with extras xmas package (games, another controller- things like that) You know, at this rate, XBoxes will probably be $100 by Memorial Day...
Guest HoffmanHHH Posted November 15, 2002 Report Posted November 15, 2002 They probably still wouldn't sell.
Guest converge241 Posted November 15, 2002 Report Posted November 15, 2002 "They probably still wouldn't sell. " lol i hate the XBOX
Guest DJ Jeff Posted November 15, 2002 Report Posted November 15, 2002 i hate the XBOX Same here. PS2 is way better than the X-Box in my opinion.
