Guest Coffin Surfer Report post Posted November 16, 2002 So there's no confusion, my match won. I just wrote myself to lose. Sadly I don't think I will have enough time to write a match analysis this week, but I'll try.

Guest Coffin Surfer Report post Posted November 16, 2002 *blinks* ...job on return? *cries* well shit, you beat an ELM match either way... (Y)!!! *marks for Deathwish* -Annie As far as storylinelogic goes it makes the most sense, to job here. A relatively new guy who hasn't even held a singles title, has no business getting a pinfall over the World Champion even in a handicap match. At first I was going to put Sacred over, but I read he wasn't active so that wouldn't make any sense. So the only option was to put ELM over, and make the Champ look like a god in the process. I didn't think it would matter anyway, since I thought there was no way I could beat him twice in less he no showed or something.

Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted November 16, 2002 Since there is no Smarkdown to write for this week, I finally have the time to do full comments while I watch Big Ten football. Yee-haw! Opening: -Wasn’t the incoming Sigil supposed to wrestle Xero? What happened to that? I know that Xero is always questionable, but it doesn’t look well for the returning writer under a new guise to no show right off the bat. Tod DeKindes vs. CIA -Kevin Cole? Ah, Tod, still putting random WWE names in a bag, shaking them up and drawing them out I see. I think someone should do a list of all the personalities hanging around the back in case we need them for something, refs, announcers, road agents, trainers, etc. I think you could have made the opening promo a separate piece so you had more words for the match itself and that also led you to short change the intros. I like the IRS reference to the CIA name. I believe you have Tod firmly established as a heel now and just need to get him involved in a feud with a virtuous face. Tod as the last member of XF9 ever in his mind is a golden angle; you should do even more with that. It will also set up a nice feud if LDP ever returns. Your commentary felt kind of generic, Mark putting the face over, Riley putting the heel over, but nothing really notable being said by either man. You seem to still be feeling out the heelish in ring presence, going out of your way to have Tod seem both arrogant and evil, but I guess this is warranted as the new character direction is still formulating and you are getting used to writing a slightly different style. You could have maybe worked something with Canada being Tod’s adopted country and how he is a true Canadian, not CIA. I felt you built the match slowly and effectively, although the opening stages are too punch heavy. A heavier descriptive passage for Tod’s trilogy would be nice to give a clearer visual of the sequence, how it all flows together. Pounding CIA’s face into the announce table felt a little contrived and unwarranted. I don’t get the “cover with forearms in the face” are you lateral pressing him while smashing him in the face at the same time? Seems awkward. Right when the commentators talk about CIA making the comeback with a big move, he does, but with a sunset flip. You use “pseudo German grappler” like a dozen times. I thank you for the Frost interference. Him being a presence at ringside that distracts CIA and then hitting a big power move on him was perfect for us. I think you could have done a lot more to put CIA over in the match proper. There’s nothing wrong with Tod controlling the whole match, but CIA came off as a lowly jobber who got a token minute of offense. I know that CIA is very hampered by his work schedule right now, but I hope that does not discourage him. I am very happy to be working with him now and feel that he has the energy and creative mind to be a solid cornerstone of this now depleted SWF roster. Frost Promo: -Felt like I was channeling the spirit of Road Warrior Hawk there. I’m trying to explore the classic heel promo style of the 80’s, violent metaphors, tossing off a barb at the face World champion, lots of screaming, etc. Mag 7 vs. Bemani Ass Wizards 2.0: -I have no idea why I find calling them the Bemani Ass Wizards is funny to me, it just is. I wrote the first half of the match and was just trying to establish a general storyline while feeling out characters in Mak and Tom, which I’ve never written before. Basically I saw this as Flesher and Frost beating Ced in order to send a message to Mak about leaving the Mag 7. I applaud Tom for adapting to my style out of the kindness of his own heart and making the match seem fairly seamless with the change of writers. It truly is a great writer who can tweak their style and not get locked into certain grammatical, thematic and semantic elements. The Frost Brand Tacos chant was hilarious. Flesher does a great job in building the hot tag from where I left off and constructing the “everybody hits their finishers” ending. With the lack of main eventers at this time, I can easily see Tom challenging for the World title by next month. Annie Eclectic vs. Ash Ketchum: -Annie seems like she’s in line for a major push doesn’t she? She’s a double champ, but they retire her light heavyweight title and then just give her another one. I’m a little confused to Annie’s standing right now. Is she heel? Face? Tweener? Ash should address the fact that Tod is running around soiling the XF9 name when he’s like the only active member left. Nice playing up of the history by Annie. However, you keep saying Annie has never lost to Ash, but out of how many matches? If it’s two that one thing, if it’s ten that’s something else entirely. You know, I don’t think Z’s ever beat me in like 7 matches or something, could be wrong on that though. The opening of the two beating each other in the head felt really weird. I kind of get the parity thing and mutual respect of each other’s hardcore abilities, but it comes off as a little stupid like Riley points out, especially since they are both no-selling supposedly very stiff shots. You do a nice job of balancing real wrestling with weapons spots and that was something that I felt led to JD’s great success with the belt. You don’t quite seem to have an effective grasp of Ash’s character, he doesn’t come off goofy and dopey enough, although it does appear Ash is taking steps to develop an edgier image. Riley’s comments toward Annie are a little too harsh, calling her bitch every other word, but then again Frost prefers the word ‘whore.’ A very standard hardcore match overall, but that felt warranted in this situation. I do look forward to Annie doing more inventive spots and matches within her title reign. I also hope she does not forsake the US title for this one that she coveted for a very long time. I assume it was Sigil who attacked and I’m intrigued to see where that goes from here. Danny and Sacred vs. ELM: -The fact that the announcers don’t reveal the outcomes of previous matches so people late tuning in will watch the replay is very clever. I like Danny bleeping out Riley’s harsh language, which I also do for the regular shows. I doubt we have a deal with HBO so Bobby can say fuck every other word. Danny’s commentary has improved by about 1000% from when he first started. The banter is witty and sharp while both men are still focused on the match and make good points and analysis. I commend Danny on doing what he felt was the right thing in giving ELM a win and putting over the World Champion. Deathwish is possibly the most unselfish writer we have today and I hope that aides him in going far and not getting buried by those more selfish and ego driven. I always say the champ, even in a non-title match should come out last. Nice wink by Danny in having ELM’s sign that he took to Smackdown in the audience. I think more could have been made of Danny and Sacred never having worked together before and what Williams’ affiliation with Mag 7 might mean involving Sacred. Having Sacred hang back while Danny and ELM go at it was a unique way to start out and plays into all three characters well. I do believe that you leave Sacred out of it a little too long and seemed to have had some trouble in conceiving and writing 2 on 1 spots. The chain wrestling and counters were excellently done and written. I think a singles match between ELM and Danny would be awesome, unfortunately I did not read the first one Danny refers too. Nice playing up of the history, not just for storyline purposes but also to point out the importance of certain moves and segments. I really hope Deathwish can get on a regular writing schedule, because he’s probably my favorite writer at this time just for his clean and crisp narrative action and the vast improvements he’s made in areas of commentary and story telling. Thoth promo: I hate main event promos, no matter their significance. It’s a wrestling show, not Charlie Rose, I don’t want the night to end on an interview. I get where Thoth is coming from, he views himself as the shepherd, but feels he has become a sheep and that Flesher is eclipsing him as the “ideal” leader of the SWF. The student rising above the teacher. Still, most of what he said is way overly dramatic and kind of turned me off. Why Orochi? What does that mean? Why does Thoth feel he has to change his name? Will this lead to a total character revamping? What is the state of the tag belts? Why did Thoth feel he had to tease retirement? Needless to say, I have a lot of questions, but am very excited to see what the answers are and that’s the mark of getting a great angle off the ground. The show was just kind of there. Only two promos. Most of the matches had an average time filler feel to them. Some storylines are getting off the ground, like Thoth’s gimmick change and his feud with Flesher, the CIA vs. Frost feud and ELM’s battling of this mystery man at the ppv. Needless to say, everyone needs to kick it into a much higher gear to keep the fed going and make it something that newer people would want to join.
