Lupin III, Rupan III, The Wolf - it does not matter what name is used this is the greatest Anime ever, that hold true to this day, its style has influenced Cowboy Bebob. Too bad distribution problems causes name changes, and confuses the customers.

Akira - basically made Anime acceptable in USA

Macross Plus - my favorite spinoff sequal of the Robotech 1st season

Ghost in the Shell - one of the many what is the meaning of life robot movies, with great action. Not sure if it was the 1st to the robots are human story line but it stands out among the many within this genre.

Trigun - its basically DBZ with guns, the hero is an idiot but strong

Galaxy Express 999 - not sure how many spinoffs this show has but I like the 2 movies, that I have seen on STARZ/ENCORE movie plex.

Vampire Hunter D, Bloodlust - Two of the best movies ever, anime or not.

TV Series:

Robotech- First anime I ever saw and the first season is just awesome on so many levels.

Cowboy Bebop- Great story, great drawing, interesting, deep characters. Only bad thing is that it ended WAY to soon(No one can tell that they couldn't have stretched out the series to a second season, no way).

Trigun- The aforementioned DBZ comparison was pretty much right on the money, although I'd more compare Vash to DB-era Goku.

Digimon- Yeah, yeah... it's kiddie anime, but I dare you to watch the entire season of Tamers(3rd season) and not get a bit misty-eyed watching the final episode.

DragonBall/DragonBall Z- While DBZ has gotten pretty corny at times, I'm really enjoying the Buu Saga with the few subtle layers they've added to the story(Vegita, Mr. Satan, and the two Buus).

Neon Genesis Evangelion- While the movies left quite a bit to be desired(althought they weren't lacking in gore, I'll tell you that...), the series still remains one of my favorites.

Slayers, Slayers Next, Slayers TRY- The relationship between Lina and Gourry along with the awesomeness that is Zelgadis makes this series a keeper.

Outlaw Star- This show is pretty much like Bebop, it doesn't do anything great, but it does everything GOOD. I really wish they had done another season(don't know if they have already or are planning to).

Tenchi Muyo- Gotta throw this in because I'm a HUGE Ryoko mark.

Gundamn 0083- Deeper story, great action, nice lil love triangle makes this installment of the Gundam series one of the best.

Movies:

AKIRA- Read my DVD review of it, foo'.

Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz- Not very good, but dammit, I mark out for Wing Zero.

Macross 2: Lover's Again- Just awesome.

Tenchi Muyo: Tenchi in Love- I personally love the storyline and the moment in the end with Aieka(sp?) and Ryoko with Tenchi's mom was great.

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust- Better story than the first one, but not by much. The landscapes were breathtaking, though.

Ghost in the Shell- This movie creeped me out when I first saw it.

I'm not huge on anime nor overly familiar with it so if my picks sound less than spectacular, that's why.

Perfect Blue - Very Hitchcock

Robotech - loved it as a kid, would be interested in eventually checking out the DVD collections

Akira - a bit disturbing but def noteworthy

Gunbuster OVA is one of the better Mechas out there, its about a girl who goes school to become a Mecha pilot who eventually saves the world, I was told that in the tv series the main enemy is some one you would never expect.

I am totally affronted with all the Trigun/DBZ comparisons.

Face it, DBZ was the same from Goku vs. Raditz to Gotenks vs. Buu. The series never evolved, it just changed some characters, but the content stayed the same. Whereas Trigun had different episodes. Plus it wasn't nearly as badly drawn as DBZ.

the main character's of the show are the same

Goku has the brain of a child but is the greatest hero on the planet

Vash is a coward like idoit savant with a huge bounty on his head, and the greatest gunman in the universe. The stories in Trigun are more mature which have more in common with Cowboy Bebop or Outlaw Star than DBZ but you can still see the similarities.

As a note: for all the people who enjoyed Gundam, you MUST watch Gundam Zeta. It's a direct sequel with one of the main characters being Char, and most of White Base's crew being introduced in some way. GREAT stories, really good animation for the time, and an ending that's like a shakespearean tragedy.

Vash is no idiot savant; a country bumpkin like Goku. He's smart, and highly sensitive, to the point where he'll smile even when he's tearing up inside as to not let others feel bad.

Goku, when pushed, has no problems with hurting or killing his opponent. Vash does. If there's anything child-like about the guy, it's that Vash believes in helping everyone and not letting anyone die. He holds those ideals through even severe emotional and physical pain.

If you want, I suppose you could compare the Vash/Knives relationship to Goku/Raditz, but Knives was a leader, an instigator. Raditz was just some lowly Saiyan for Freeza to push around.

Vigorously copied and pasted in some parts, as I am nothing if not lazy.

Favorites:

Tenchi Muyo! OVA

Dual! : Parallel Trouble Adventure

Excel Saga

Irresponsible Captain Tylor TV

Cowboy Bebop

All-Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku OVA

Dragon Half

Tenchi Muyo in Love

Mobile Suit Gundam: 08th Team

Puni Puni Poemi

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust

Outlaw Star

Okay:

Tenchi Muyo! TV AKA "Tenchi Universe" - Bought it more out of love for the characters than anything else. This show seriously drags for a few episodes, with absolutely NOTHING happening. Filler city. But the space arc livens things up, and the last few eps do a lot to redeem TMTV. Certainly doesn't enduce nightmares like "That Other Tenchi Series".

Tenchi Muyo! GXP - Affectionately known as "That Other Other Tenchi Series". The animation is quite decent, but I don't think Nabeshin's style works for something based on the Tenchi OVA. Of course I'm only basing that on the few eps I've watched digisubbed (Yes, I am that pirate scum you've read about in magazines) and a synopsis or two I've seen. Decent enough, as I'm blinded by my love for that goddamn show. *sniff*

Irresponsible Captain Tylor OVA - Not up to snuff with the original, but still very okay.

Will Watch Someday:

His and Her Circumstances

Bought and HATED:

El Hazard - Could not stand El Ha-ZARD. I am filled with feelings of hatred and self-loathing for buying El Ha-ZARD. Heard the dub was fanatically good...didn't like it. Didn't care for the original either. Didn't care for this show at all, really. Just fast-forwarded to all the Jinnai parts, watched it, and shipped it back. Besides me hating this show with every fiber of my being, it was a blast.

Might give the show a second chance sometime (was in a bad mood when I first watched it) but I wouldn't pay eighty-someodd dollars for it. Nope.

Five months later, I'm wondering if I hated El-Hazard because it was outright BAD or because of my Tenchi bias. So I'm curious about seeing the show again. Unfortunately, it's hard to get on KaZaa, and I'm not really looking forward to dropping eighty dollars on a show so I can remember if it sucks or not.

I completely forgot about Mobile Suit Gundam: 08th MS Team and it's pretty much my favorite Gundam series to boot(with 0083 coming in a close second).

I know I'm omitting alot, but here's my list from off the top of my head.

Favorites, in no particular order:

Excel Saga - F'n insane and full of in-jokes and references.

Slayers (All three series, especially Next)

Trigun

Love Hina (Especially the X-mas Special)

Cowboy Bebop

Ruronin Kenshin (OVA & TV)

Ranma 1/2 (OVA, haven't seen enough of the TV series)

Tenchi Muyo! (OVA & TV)

Liked:

Initial D - Spotty CG and character designs but I liked the race scenes. The Eurobeat soundtrack is great but must...kill...Itsuki...

Grave of the Fireflies - A very nice movie to show people if you want to prove that anime isn't just kid's stuff. It has a really moving story.

Hated:

Love Hina Again - THE BLACK SHEEP OF THE TITLE MUST DIIIIIEEEE~! The opening and ending themes are kinda catchy and I liked the character designs...BUT IT MUST DIE! Ridiculously awful pacing over three episodes to give fans a definitive closure. On top of that, most of the stuff near the end makes no sense at all in the context of the original series. This is like finding a chunk of crap at the bottom of the ice cream dish.

Tenchi in Tokyo - ...must...control...rage...ah, to hell with it. THIS WAS SHIT! DIE! DIE! DIE! DIE! DIE! When Tenchi Muyo uses Sailor Moon's "Monster of the Week" format, you know something's terribly, terribly wrong.

It's assumed EVERYBODY hates Tenchi in Tokyo, CED. But there are a select few who actually like it.

Someday I plan on drilling holes in those people's foreheads until they get better.

Also, to keep pimping my faves, the 'Vision of Escaflowne' that was shown on TV for a half a year or so is tremendously butchered. I mean they cut out about an honest 1/3 of the show. )It never was a children's show in any way.) Check it out on video or DVD SUBTITLED (worse dub I've EVER seen) and marvel in its beauty.

Weren't there two dubs for Escaflowne? I think there was the original dub made for the DVD release, and then Fox Kids got ahold of that, took what they wanted, added a few bits and hack chop-chopped the rest.

Having never seen the show, I don't know for sure. But that's what some friends who were familiar with it told me.

Almost, just need to finish watching first:

Steel Angel Kurumi

That theme song is EVIL. It's corrupted my brain and I can't get it out.

Evil good, or Tenchi in Tokyo evil? Yes the Tenchi in Tokyo potshots will continue regardless.

I My Me! Strawberry Eggs

I'm seen part of it, but I didn't like the premise of "Man dressed as woman has political battles against ultra feminist school principal". The stark contrast between the main character's Japanese male and female voices is down right scary. It makes you wonder what the hell is in that choker.

Its cuteness will swallow your soul. It'll invade your mind and you won't be able to get it out, except with broom handles or bullets.

I'll give the devil it's due and say it had some humor, but the second I saw Ayeka in the first episode, I knew something was amiss. Ryo-Ohki turning into a kawaii-mecha confirmed it.

Ugh... I remember that. Soooooooo bad.

Once they introduced that girl from Tenchi's school, I just gave up. I managed to catch it one day on Toonami and the fat kid with glasses was wrestling a monster, so I just swore off it for GOOD.

Cowboy Bebop had no reason to be longer. They just needed to excise the crap like Mushroom Samba, Heavy Metal Queen, and Toys in the Attic to focus a little longer and harder on the main 4 (though really only Faye and Spike needed a better arc).

I'll second the Galaxy Express 999 love. I saw the movies on SciFi back when they showed Anime and I loved them. I also liked some movie that involved a ship going into space to fight a machine empire, although the name escapes me as well as the name of one that had as the climactic sequence some kind of unstoppable weapon or vehicle just destroying everything in its path all the way from the city into the country. These were all a couple of years ago, I wish I could remember them, as they were very good.

Also, I dug Tank Police when it was the Action channel MUCHLY.

AKIRA goes without saying. Took me three viewings to really "get" everything, but once I did, it was mindblowing.

As for series, I've liked what I've seen of Big O.

And, as I make obvious in my NHB poll about my 7000 posts, the Dragonball series is my favorite.

Fo sheez,

I hate 99.9% of anime, but Im not gonna discuss that here, I will however pimp the.1% that i have liked.

Akira....its already been been pimped enough

Kurumi was the funniest anime I think ive ever seen. My roomie got the first dvd and i was like, cute girl anime, will suck....but then I watched it and it was hilarious. I mean if you ignore the the time setting because they have robots and all, its a funny anime thats actually enjoyable. Hell I liked it, so right there proves its good. And god damn that theme is evil...but its catchy as all hell.

Spring & Chaos, which I havent seen, but saw the preview for on the FMW dvds, visual looks spectacular....I cant compare it to anything else ive seen, it just looks marvalous. If i could ever find it at best buy or something, I would buy it, even though I hear the plot sucks.

Trigun, the 1 episode ive seen, looked intresting...but Id need to see more before i can give it a better then thumbs in the middle.

is Yu-Gi-Oh suppose to be good or is it just buthered to death Harmony Gold/Funmation style? I can never understand the show, why does Yugi change his voice when he play cards, is that suppose to be his Super Saiyan Poker Face or what?
