Guest CED Ordonez Report post Posted December 4, 2002 Most English dubs of anime usually get knocked on, especially the purists. I usually follow the lines and go with subs and original dialogue because of my purist nature. Trigun's dubbing isn't all that bad except maybe for Meryl, whose English VA I felt lack the proper emotion at some critical moments. I already said this in the long forgotten O&O Anime Thread, but some anime English dubs are truely awesome and on par, if not superior, to the original Japanese VA crew , such as Cowboy Bebop. BTW anybody know when the commercial release of Cowboy Bebop: KoHD is scheduled? I need to put a bullet through the awful subtitling job on my HKSE DVD. Guest Kagato Otaku Report post Posted December 4, 2002 KoHD comes out in limited release early January, with all the original voice actors intact (subbed and dubbed). Depending on how well it does when it goes wide there should be a DVD out 4-6 months later. So sometime next summer would be my guess. I already said this in the long forgotten O&O Anime Thread, but some anime English dubs are truely awesome and on par, if not superior, to the original Japanese VA crew , such as Cowboy Bebop. Most dubs aren't given a chance by the hardcores because of grudges against the truly AWFUL ones back in the day. And some bad ones even now. I refuse to listen to the english dub of Vash the Stampede. PERIOD!!!! It's hard for me to not to watch Dual! or Tylor dubbed. I think everybody's English voice fits them so perfectly (well, maybe not the chick who replaced Kotono Mitsuishi in Tylor) that when I hear them speak the original language it really throws me. Trigun's dub is alright, as Pioneer's dubs range from okay to really REALLY good. There's not one dub I have that I can't listen to when I throw the DVD in the player. Guest EricMM Report post Posted December 5, 2002 if not superior, to the original Japanese VA crew , such as Cowboy Bebop. If you're implying that the Dub for Cowboy Bebop is better than the original cast, I disagree heavily. Reason one: Megumi Hayashibara >>> anyone else Reason two: Ed's voice in the Dub is completely ... wrong. I'd say that Spike is pretty on tho.

She has had roles in some of the most popular anime titles to hit stateside, making her an easily recognizable name in the anime world. I bow to her as an anime fan, but I thought that Wendee Lee's dubbing of Faye Valentine fit the character as well as Megumi Hayashibara's version did. I dug Ed's dub as well. Keep in mind I first saw Cowboy Bebop as a dub, so account some of my opinion to bias due to imprinting. Once you associate a face with a voice, anything else tends to sound funny. Spike's English VA is damn near perfect in his role.
Guest Kagato Otaku Report post Posted December 5, 2002 Count me in as one of the ignorant masses that likes Wendee Lee's Faye better than Megumi's. And I like Ed's voice better too, even though I know she's supposed to be somewhat androgynous. Nyah nyah.
