It looks like Dames beat me to the "official" reply. I agree, though: we have plenty of mods as it is. Just because none were on the board for a half-hour isn't the sign of a catastrophe. If we had thirty mods, there would still be a chance that there would be none on at any certain time.

 

I hate these threads, as it's always just everyone throwing their name into a non-existant hat, saying how they'd be a good mod, when, in reality, I really don't think we need any. If someone comes along that you don't like, IGNORE THEM, if they're doing something wrong, they'll be gone soon enough.

FINALLY, someone here gets it. If anyone were to be raised to mod out of this, TC, I would fully support you simply because you understand more than anyone else here does, it seems. I hate these threads, too, because a few people will toss their name into a hat that doesn't exist, then argue among themselves why one of them would be better than the others. The call for more mods would never have been made if some people would wise the fuck up and learn to ignore trolls when they see them. I can't believe how many people seem to have forgotten the simple things they learned in kindergarten. Ignore them, and PM the mods you think will take the swiftest action. That's really all that needs to be done.

Aspirations? That's actually funny. What exactly do you think you're aspiring to? I like my job here, but it IS thankless, you DO have to make some difficult decisions, and not everyone is cut out for it. But since I relish responsibility and being the pointman on difficult decisions, I thrive on this kind of stuff.

I just hate how everyone gets louded out for just doing what amounts to hearsay. I really don't see anything wrong with people just saying who they think would be a good mod or whatever. I know it's a pretty poor comparison, but it's almost like fantasy booking. No harm in it, and if it's all confined to one thread like this, then there's no problem with people asking to be mods or whatever. Just decline the offers and move on.

Nobody was fighting over who should be a mod or not, it was in one thread.

 

I don't see what's so wrong about it. None of us were demanding to be mods or anything.

 

I said I thought we needed more mods and it went from there. It's no big deal and pooh-poohing this is stupid.

 

It's bad for us to want to help keep this board enjoyable? I don't think so. Sure reading back over the thread it's a little silly but it's far tamer than most threads of this kind.

Whether you think so-and-so would make a good moderator is pointless because there are no openings. It is also doesn't matter what your stance is on whether or not it is appropriate to ask for a position on the staff because no one is being promoted to that level.

 

On a whole, this thread was very childish and common sense probably would have lead to the troll leaving even faster than if a moderator banned them. Yeah, I just felt like venting. Mostly because I wasted a good five minutes of my time reading this thread.

There are no openings. Okay, When I sais "maybe" we could use some more mods, I wasn't saying "Hey everyone let's get some more mods!". It was a suggestion because I saw a problem in the fact there were no mods on to deal with the problem. And I wasn't the only one, a number of people were frustrated that there were no mods on. It was a viable,decent squestion.

 

No harm was done, It's been dealt with, and then the next day people come along and start trashing it.

Guys...we have more than enough mods right now. So a troll was untouched for more than an hour...That doesn't mean that we need an influx of mods. Bottom line, the guy was taken care of and quicker than most trolls who mess around in NHB.

Of course you are. No one's stopping you from doing that. Just realize that it's irritating when this discussion pops up every two months because it took a half-hour for some troll to get the axe. There are going to be windows when no mods are online, and adding more doesn't remove that possibility.

 

Perhaps we as a community think there should be more.

Perhaps we as moderators wish the community would wise up and stop responding en masse to every troll who comes around looking for a reaction. Ignoring them will greatly reduce their opportunities for abusive posts, and they're still banned just as easily.

Seriously, though, it's exasperating when folks complain about a trolling thread, and 90% of said thread is a bunch of people tripping over each other to cut the first promo and write the first "cool" reply. Nothing exists in a vacuum. Physicians, heal thyselves.

 

Maybe someone could find that "Do not feed the trolls" picture. Not that it would do any good, but it'd be worth a chuckle or two to see again.

If you'd note I wasn't goading him on. The whole time he was trolling I was talking to various posters on AIM, who all felt the way I did.

easy there flamer! while you may not be intentionally trying to increase your post count, it appears that responding to the troll threads is more of a habit than anything else. ooh, troll posts in nhb. let us respond to him en masse then complain when a mod doesn't kill him off in 5 minutes.
