EL DANDY~! Posted November 26, 2002 Report Posted November 26, 2002 If you head on over to www.411wrestling.com (cheap plug, boys), you'll find this little tidbit... "When Hulk Hogan backed out of the Survivor Series main event against Brock Lesnar, WWE was left with The Big Show and Chris Benoit as the final two choices for the slot. Obviously, WWE ended up with the Big Show, but there is an interesting reasoning as to why. With the Big Show winning the title, and presumably losing the strap back to Brock at either Armageddon or Royal Rumble, he is a lame duck champion, and fans view lame duck champions in a lower light. WWE has bigger plans for Benoit in the future, and didn’t want to use him as a short term fix. So while Big Show is the champion now, the thinking in WWE was more that Benoit was a long term investment whereas Big Show could be sacrificed long term for a short term gain. Credit: Pro Wrestling Torch Newsletter" Whoa...LOGIC? In plans for WWE? I think I can see a snowflake falling in the depths of hell as we speak...
TheFranchise Posted November 26, 2002 Report Posted November 26, 2002 I think trip as out of town when the decision was made.
Guest buffybeast Posted November 26, 2002 Report Posted November 26, 2002 If this is true, then I am not surprised. Big Show is worthless and they know this.
EL DANDY~! Posted November 26, 2002 Author Report Posted November 26, 2002 Still...I'm amazed at the fact that the WWE knows that an actual wrestler can do better than a 500 pound piece of garbage...

Guest Lord of The Curry Posted November 26, 2002 Report Posted November 26, 2002 Actually, the WWE are still stupid fuckers, this thread should have been titled " Proof that Paul Heyman is smarter then Vince Macmahon".
EL DANDY~! Posted November 26, 2002 Author Report Posted November 26, 2002 Curry...no hhhs in LARIATOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Secondly...thanks for the correction...
Guest saturnmark4life Posted November 26, 2002 Report Posted November 26, 2002 hmm yeah well i'm probably the biggest show mark on the board, so whilst i understand this reign is absolutely terrible, i don't mind it as much as the Michaels one. If they were looking for a 'quick fix' champion they should have had a heel brock lose on a fluke to Rey or Edge. Mind you, that was a good thing about the IC title, you could push someone like that without having them carry the company on their back. Eliminating it was ridiculous.
Guest ShooterJay Posted November 26, 2002 Report Posted November 26, 2002 I'm not sure about Benoit is a "long-term investment." He is almost 35 years old, after all, if they want to push him they better do it in the next year or so. The good thing is, if Austin ever comes back, they can pick that feud up right where they left off.
Guest cynicalprofit Posted November 26, 2002 Report Posted November 26, 2002 They actually have plans.... Ill believe it when I see it.
Guest jester Posted November 26, 2002 Report Posted November 26, 2002 They actually have plans.... Ill believe it when I see it. Me too. As far as I'm concerned, you can file that next to Brock's SSP, Ross report talks off doing more with the cruisers, and building new talent.

The man just came back from fucking up his neck, and he is still pulling **** matches.
Guest Dace59 Posted November 26, 2002 Report Posted November 26, 2002 On Brock's SSP: Ever since that clip of him doing in in OVW got out, lots of people have said we'll see it next PPV, every damn PPV. Brock said it might be WrestleMania. And I say..... meh, if it happens, it'll happen some other time that now. Anyway, let's just wait for them to mess this one up. Give them some time.............. Ok, that's more than enough.
Guest HartFan86 Posted November 26, 2002 Report Posted November 26, 2002 So while Big Show is the champion now, the thinking in WWE was more that Benoit was a long term investment whereas Big Show could be sacrificed long term for a short term gain. Big Show = Short term gain? Uh, no?
Guest Super Pissed Smark Posted November 26, 2002 Report Posted November 26, 2002 Sacrificed? That is such a load of shit. Maybe some people in the WWE think that's why they went with Show instead, but I'm sure the only person who's decisions matter just didn't want to risk Benoit getting even a little bit of heat off of a one month title run and being able to say that he was the first person to ever pin Brock. Much better that a huge, useless, overpaid load who'll never get over hold the belt than someone who just might be able to gain from it and possibly become a danger to anyone's spot.
Guest godthedog Posted November 26, 2002 Report Posted November 26, 2002 even if they DO have long-term plans for benoit, they'll never materialize and he'll never get his shot. wwf "long-term" planning changes by the day. vince has always changed his mind right before pulling the trigger on benoit and jericho, and he always will.
