>This is getting beyond Anglesault/Anglympic Slam bad...

Truer words were never typed. This thread is the most worthless I've ever seen.

I try to be nice to the misguided youth and I get insulted. I'm so close to responding to this troll with an endless string of cursing. I'm hitting post before I make an ass out of myself.

The points have been made the discussion is over. No more whinning brain dead fanboy retorts with added insults. You lost kid deal with it.

Or Bret Hart if it is in Canada.

...or Ric Flair in the Carolina's!

By the way, if The Scorpion King makes even half as much, as The Mummy Returns, I will be VERY suprised. By the way...

...The Mummy Returns didn't make so much because of the Rock's 6 minutes in the film, which included no scenes at all  which required "acting talent" that and "dime a dozzen" actor couldn't have performed. To say that the Rock was the main force behind that film's popularity is quite possible THE stupidest thing I've ever heard anyone say regarding film...

...the reason it did so well, was because the first one did so great, and it was greatly looked forward to! It didn't make as much in the theaters as the second one, and that's ok. The reason that The Mummy Returns was simple because the sequel was so looked forward to...

...as the first one did HIGHLY respectable in the theaters, and was #1 on the rental list when it came out. THAT is why the sequel did so well, and that is that...PERIOD.

Let's not kid ourselves, The Scorpion King is going to suck, and suck hard, there is no doubt about that.

if that is so then why did universal themselves say that rock's appearance was the main success of the mummy returns....and why did the mummy returns had such a bad rating, because I believe every reviewer said first an foremost that mainly all the rock fans were going to see it and will be completely let down of the fact that he was only in the first 6 minuites of the film........

Yet all the rock fans went to see it anyways.....and not only that I believe rock had like the biggest picture poster of mummy returns........

So if it is the stupidest thing you have ever heard, then you obviously did not hear right because Universal themselves said rock was the biggest reason why the mummy 2 was a success and that they think rock will have a promising movie career...

By the way Expect Scorpion King to make more than half if not match the Mummy Returns,,,,,,,believe me and the rock going on his promotional world tour will prove it as he did for the mummy returns......

Downhome please do not be one of the crackheads in here.....

(ps. I ate more people up than I expected, and you can see it but I know you are not a man of your word and therefore you still will not unban me.... but that is ok)

Alright.

I just got back from school and on the drive back I had a little test for my friend (Who's only wrestling experience is me showing him Foley flying off the cage...and various other things I may mention)

I asked him who the bigger star was...Rock or Austin.

He answered Rock.

I felt all dejected...and then he said...

Well...actualy that's a tough question because a couple years ago all I'd hear about was Austin.  If it weren't for that movie...I wouldn't even know who the Rock is.

He went on to say that he doesn't take Rock seriously...he just knows who he is.

He also said that he probably would go with Austin in the end because he did something that Rock and Hogan have NEVER done...and that is to make wrestling OK for the common man to admit he watches.

Back in the day you would be laughed at for wearing a Hulkamania t-shirt.  Today...you would be laughed at for wearing a Rock t-shirt.

But no one was laughing when there were dozens of Austin 3:16 shirts walking around the mall.

No one was laughing when proffesional wrestling actually became a topic in the lunch room or at the watercooler.

Not only did Austin have Main Stream appeal...but he had such a distinct appeal that he was able to make wrestling "cool" to admit to watching.

Plus...at the height of Austinmania...WCW and WWF were pulling combined numbers of like 10.  That's a WHOLE lot of people not watching wrestling NOW when the WWF pulled a 4.5 on Raw last night.

Those fans had to start watching for something...and for once...they weren't afraid to admit it.

and where is this getting to......Uh I have rock shirts, and austin shirts.....I believe mad people were laughing at the what t-shirt much more than any shirt.....If anything I was laughed at a lot with the what? shirt rather than any rock shirt I ever wore..as a matter of fact I never even was laughed at for wearing a rock shirt like I was with the what shirt....I wonder why???????

I agree with that assessment bps but the same thing could be said about the NWO.

If you want to talk about advertising, don't think about the wrestler but the design of the shirt. Stone Cold's 3:16 shirt was fuckin' cool and simple. The NWO shirt was cool and simple. Alot of the crap they are throwin' out there today have the wrestlers face, Cheesy catchphrases, and weak graphics making it hard for someone to latch onto.

There was a thread on the old board talking about t shirts (rhyno specifically) and if you want a shirt to sell, then make an obscure reference and keep it simple. There has not been one Rock shirt that I've seen that makes me want to buy it unless I was a fan of the Rock. That's not the Rock's fault but whoever markets the shit.

How does one man get to be so funny?

Sadly...no I have not received 21 blow jobs per second.  I can last longer than that...

But we can obviously see your frame of reference for how much stamina you have.

As for the point of my post...I'll wait for a sane poster to explain it to you...you obviously need the help.

bps....you and I have been through this type of stuff with Anglesault before...you know the saying.

Once a fanboy, alwayz, a fanboy.

You ARE right, most of us are right, damnit even Scotsman is right *heh*...but we will NEVER EVER, unless he gets brain surgery, be able to convice a pety fanboy of his ludicrious opinion. He can try to act koo,, try to know what he's talking about, but the hurricane does NOT KNOW SHIT ABOUT WHAT HES TRYING TO PROVE...some facts like Rocks mainstream appeal are where he is correct, but sadly for him everyone else said it too.

We sghould stop feeding the trolls and try to bring up some fucking stability and credibility to this shell of a good board.

Oh I remember the days...the ezboard daaaaaaaays...

Yeah, I know its frustrating man...I feel the pain to levels that rival yours exactly.

But...is it worth time and effort, when all Hurricane and Anglesault will do is run away from logic and reason...and just suck on respective wrestler's cock?

This was a pretty good thread until it degenerated into mudslinging.

Truthfully, there have been just as many credible points to support that the Rock is bigger star of the two right now than have been made against it.

I also had to laugh when someone they can't take Rock seriously. It's professional wrestling for God's sake - you can't take anyone seriously!

This is coming from someone who just saw Steve Austin shoot a man with a net gun! You have to watch reruns of Batman from the 60s to see anything like that anywhere else on TV.

If you count the posts of hurricane that say things like "If Austin is bigger than why come Hogan is fighting Rock?" or "Austin sucks cause I seen him and I know he does..." Then...I guess it is even.

The points of Rock being a bigger star have been refuted with credible evidence.

I still can't understand how when someone makes valid points, like say almost everyone in this post, a few people don't take them for what they are, opinions.  Can hurricane prove anything he says?  Pop guides on backstage sheets?  That's the way popularity is officially gauged?  If I accept hurricane's opinion as the Rock is infinitely more popular than Austin, shouldn't he be able to respect mine and not resort to name calling?

And the last time I checked childhood insults and changing peoples names into sexually laced names with gay undertones went out in grade school.

LJ back me up here cos you know it, I really can't tolerate insolent people...

Hey, Hurricane, I know you dislike Austin and you're a Rock fan.  I respect that.  You're representing your opinion and that's what this board is for.  Before insulting me, I just want you to consider one thing.  I remember you saying "Rock has not released a t-shirt since last fall".  Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but if you go to wwfshopzone, Rock has a brand new "Get Ready" t-shirt or something like that, and it has been around since No Way Out.  The WWFE themselves (in one WWF magazine way back), stated that Austin has sold the most amount of merchandise for the WWF, over anyone that has ever worked for the WWF.  I don't think the WWFE would just make that up for the storylines.

Moving on, I agree with you totally when you say The Rock is a bigger star.  He is.  With his Mummy Returns appearance, he became the biggest WWF media crossover ever.  Up until that point, not a very many people knew about The Rock.  I remember talking with my guidance counselor no less(circa 2000).  I asked him "Yeah, I'm still a wrestling fan, go figure".  He's like "that's ok, I don't like it but I don't criticise people for liking a specific tv show".  I remember him specifically asking me, "Are you into that bald man who flips the bird at Vince McMahon, a billionaire?  What's his name, Austin something, right?".  For a guidance counselor who doesn't like it, I'm suprised he knows Austin, and not The Rock, being that it's 2000, and The Rock was the biggest star that time.  Mummy Returns caused The Rock to become much bigger.  He's definitely come a long way.

Rock's pops are based on girls popping for him.  If you listen to them, the minute his name is mentioned, you hear screams (shrieks) from girls, then guys come in.  When a girl and guy scream, the girl's is louder.

Being a media crossover sensation doesn't qualify The Rock to being the Biggest Star ever in WRESTLING.  The Rock is definitely on the list, but also definitely behind Hollywood Hogan, and Steve Austin (the 2 most important men in the WWF ever).  Austin was a big media crossover too.  His Nash Bridges appearances gave that show monster ratings, beating nightime tv, and the writers loved him so much they were going to grant Austin his "Jake Cage" spinoff series, but Austin backed out.  Another thing is, if anyone notices, The Rock is a Xerox copy of Austin.  Austin is "black boots black trunks, and the finger", Rock is "Black boots black trunks, and the elbow".  If ya smell what the Rock is cookin' resembles totally "And that's the bottom line, cause Stone Cold said so".

The Rock is the biggest WWF media crossover ever, no doubt about it.  But if you say "Who is the most popular wrestler ever?", most people will answer you, "Stone Cold", or "Hulk Hogan"......

I refuse to accept Hurricane's opinion.  Until he can learn to back it up with facts and not preferences and insults...Screw him.

One of the people I get along with very well on this forum is Kahran Rasmus.  The wrestler he hates most happens to be my favorite...but we can still get along because we discuss thing with facts and truth...not markish and biased opinions.

There were more than a few posters in the middle of this thread who wrote long messages about why they felt Rock was a bigger star right now.

Whether you agree with the points they made is a matter of opinion.

Being popular is only half the battle when discussing the "biggest star ever".

Is Rock the most popular wrestler in the World?  Sure.  I'll buy that.

But he has NEVER been pushed as THE top guy.  That is the other half of the battle.

In 2000 (when Austin was injured) HHH was the basis of storylines and the guy who was pushed as the top guy.  Don't deny it...because it is a fact.  Rock was the #1 face.  There usually isn't a difference...but in 2000 there was.

Austin has been pushed as the #1 guy (when healthy) since 1998.

If being popular was all it took to be the biggest star in the history of wrestling...then I guess RVD is one of the biggest stars in the history of wrestling.

I think Cheech made a great point earlier in this thread.

It's not about title belts or pushes or whether JR calls you a hoss, it's about putting butts in seats, drawing TV ratings and selling pay-per-views.  During 2000 - when Rock was left home alone without Austin - he was the main reason people came to see WWF shows. In the early part of the year folks would leave the event right after the Rock's match, which was before the main event. I think the WWF did its best house show business that year.

The Rock's return posted a bigger TV rating than Austin's or HHH's, and the effect lasted longer. And, if I'm not mistaken Rock also has the edge in PPV buyrates overall. You can't deny that the guy is a draw...and in a business like wrestling, the top draw is the MVP.

I made a long argument in the the middle of this thread defending how Rock was the bigger star.  I am willing to admit that maybe that isn't correct.  The thing that I can see from this thread is that, if anything, Rock and Austin are in a position where they, together, are the biggest stars of the company.  The one thing I was fearful of was Rock playing Savage to Austin's Hogan, which has definitely not happened.

Although, I will say that whereas Austin may have been pushed harder in the ring, Rock's crossover appeal is much greater, and should he stick around for another 5 years or so, he should set the new standard for what a sports entertainment star should be.

Hey, LJ, thanks for the compliments.  I'm simply just trying to state my opinion.  Hurricane is obviously stressed over the fact that Austin, the wrestler he hates most, is referred to as "bigger" than his favorite The Rock.  I don't hate Hurricane, or any Rock-fan for that matter, who agrees with The Rock's side of the story.

Oh, and no offense, but I don't remember us speaking on AIM.  IM me right now, I'm online.....AustinSTILLRulz is the sn.....

Mummy Returns definately was not the reason for Rock's popuilarity, that is by far the most stupidest thing I have ever heard......

If you say that then why in october 99 on when austin was still around, the rock was getting bigger pops and selling more merchandise than austin????  Face to face they went on raw after No Mercy and the fans totally cheered rock way more than austin, as a matter of fact when austin said we can do this right now, I don't even recall hearing an austin chant, only rock chants as the building erupted for him....

You can never believe what wwfe says, they also say that rock really got hit by that truck....Obviously he did not....

Again Rock is by far the most popular face ever comparing to Hogan which is why they are fighting, Hollywood vs Hollywood....Makes perfect sense at the biggest event of the year.....

Bps21.  just by not reading what I say proves that you cannot read and you get high too much.....Cause my points are definately backed up.....Yours aren't......You have no points....and you probably have no life.....it all sounds the same....
