Guest Banky Report post Posted November 29, 2002 Who has the better song named 'In Too Deep'. HINT: Sum 41 are overated bubble gum flavored crap. On the other hand, Phil Collins was revolutionary with his love songs, and helped many teenagers get laid in the 80's. You all love Phil, don't front. I think the answer is pretty self-explanatory. B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2002 Genesis all the way. Collins owns. Fuck Sum 41 and their brand of bubblegum, pop punk bile.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted November 29, 2002 Is Sum 41 one of those Blink 182 bands?
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2002 They sure are. I think they're actually a little better than Blink182. I mean, they both suck, just Sum 41 sucks less. I will say one good think about Blink though. Travis Barker is a fantastic drummer.

Guest Kinetic Report post Posted November 29, 2002 This is like choosing between, say, drowning and being eaten alive by bears. Sum 41 is, as many have noted, bubblegum pop-punk nonsense, not to mention Canadian. Genesis is, well...I feel that fans of Phil Collins and/or Genesis need to evaluate not just their taste in music but the validation for their existence. Guest Kinetic Report post Posted November 29, 2002 But "In Too Deep" came well after Gabriel's departure from the band. I just cannot in good conscience vote for Phil Collins era-Genesis. Not being a big prog fan, I don't care for Genesis in any of its forms, but that's not the issue. I'm going to have to go with Sum 41 here. They may suck--and they do suck, make no mistake--but at least they aren't affiliated with fucking Phil Collins in any way that I'm aware of.
Guest Banky Report post Posted November 29, 2002 You lie, Phil Collins owns! Sussudio, Another Day in Paradise, Against All Odds, Invisable Touch, and so on. You all are only denying yourself the splendor of Mr. Collins. In The Air Tonight That song is it. Download it. Now.
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted November 29, 2002 As much as I've grown to hate Phil Collins, 80s era Genesis, when viewed in the appropriate context, produced pleasant--if entirely inconsequential--radio singles. Anything they did post 1990 is completely indefensible.
Guest DARRYLXWF Report post Posted November 29, 2002 I heard 'Invisible Touch' on the radio yesterday, and hey, I still like it.
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted November 30, 2002 Oh, come ON. "In Too Deep"? "Invisible Touch"? "Another Day In Paradise"? You people are all now inextricably linked to the band that created "I Can't Dance," as far as I'm concerned. Genesis is basically soft rock personified, which is the worst, most middle-of-the-road genre of music outside of modern country. For shame.

Phil Collins played straight up pussy music, thats fine and dandy. But the fact he surpassed all of those in the 'soft rock' genre and pumped out the hottest hits makes him LEGENDARY! Keep in mind, its not like I own his records, I, like Incandenza, enjoy his singles as their own seperate entity and take them for what they are - crap....well, tasty crap. Guest Incandenza Report post Posted November 30, 2002 Hey, I didn't say I liked them. I was quite fond of that "Land of Confusion" video when I was shortie. It's almost impossible for me to experience venomous hate for anything that instills such nostalgiac memories. I don't feel the same for their post-80s work, however. Fuck Phil Collins. Fuck him in his stupid ass.

Guest Kinetic Report post Posted November 30, 2002 All right...the "Land of Confusion" video is pretty cool, although I'm too young to feel all that nostalgic about it. My most vivid Phil Collins memories are "I Can't Dance" and the theme to Tarzan and those two things I cannot forgive. Fortunately for you Collins apologists, Genesis seems to have taken an insurmountable lead in the poll.
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2002 I liked it a lot when Philly got the shit kicked out of him on South Park. That's about the only time when I could stand him really...
Guest Sassquatch Report post Posted December 1, 2002 As a Genesis fan I can see both sides of the coin in regards to Phil. Over the years though (the last 10-15) Phil has just become a total prick towards his fans and his own forner band mates. I prefer the Collins era more than the Gabriel era Geneis for some odd reason which is simply that I find myself liking Phil's work more than Pete's work with the band.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted December 1, 2002 maybe because gabriel's work with the band was pretentious fluff with no melody. at least collins' era didn't try to disguise what they were aiming for... top 40 radio! personally, i am not a big fan of any of the green day ripoffs or either era of genisis, peter gabriel, phil collins or mike and the mechanics but at least the phil collins era genesis wasn't trying to fool anyone. unlike the shitty green day ripoffs who profess to be punk but are closer to the partridge family in terms of 'cred'. B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2002 But they've been listening to the Ramones since birth. But does that make them instantly Punk? I've been jamming Ramones for as long as I can remember, and I am in no way a punk.

Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted December 7, 2002 Genesis is basically soft rock personified, which is the worst, most middle-of-the-road genre of music outside of modern country. For shame. I'm generally a pretty mellow person, and can't take much rock or metal, and 60% of my music is soft rock and outdated 80s rock (how outdated? I liked the GTA Vice City music back when it was still uncool.) I can take most all the rock Vince McMahon sponsors to appear on his show (except for Let The Bodies & that Neurotica track, bleh). Think before you totally blow off the more casual forms of music. Yes, some of us DO like elevator tunes. =b However, the only music genre everyone may legally dogpile on is Country, and man has known that forever. As for the poll, I hate Sum41, but "In Too Deep" was the one song of theirs I could stand. I'll go with the Genesis one though since it played on my favorite radio station back before it turned into Country (sigh.) Also, even my friend who likes Metallica (O_o) thinks Genesis' "That's All" is a good song. .....And with that... HAPPY 2000 POST, JotW!
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted December 7, 2002 Always remember that it's okay to like "old country." In fact, that's one of the oldest hipster tricks in the book. You don't have to cite any examples or run down a list of your favorite old country songs. You just have to say "Yeah, modern country is garbage. Older country is great, though." People will think you're a man of the world. It's right up there with "Yeah, I like their early stuff" in terms of bullshit statements people make to try to sound cool.
