I agree that any extreme is stupid in either case, because they are extremely desperate to make sense of a world that they don't understand, when they don't even realise that it's impossible and that we shouldn't give a shit and should instead focus on strengthening our current ties with each other.

Christian here btw...

Can you imagine a school taking down a Kwanzaa mural or display?

Fact: Kwanzaa is a 6 day celebration of the Harvest. There are no religious ties to it. But then again, Christmas now a days doesn't really have religious ties to it, atleast in the states.

X-mas is one of the few holidays that is made for kids, or the kid in ourselves. They are slowly distroying it because of the fact they don't want to upset anyone. My co-worker bob(who is Jewish) said it best: Christimas is bulit by the Chinese, sold by the Muslim and Jew, bought by the Christian, celebrated by all.

Christmas is a day just to hang with family and open gifts. Making so you say happy Holidays just stupid.

Wiccan isn't just witchcraft. There are many beliefs and ideas involved. There is one spirit called "The All" in most cases, that is divided both into a male and female diety form to represent the duality in things. There is meditation, deep thought, and a form of prayer. The witchcraft aspect as shown in tv is a portion, though not necessarily as dramatic. Wiccans perform "spell" by focusing on a goal, using spiritual energy that they (and everyone else) possess, and direct that energy through the help of tools to help them to attain their goal. There primary tenet, as stated in the main document of Wicca called the Wiccan Rede is "an it harm none, do what ye will." As long as no one (including yourself) gets hurt, do what you want. Take care of the earth and respect it and what it has given us. Respect all living creatures, no matter what. At the winter solstice they celebrate Yule. A celebration of the year, welcoming back the sun as we get more daylight, examining what they accomplished, and deciding what they would like to accomplish in the next year. This is the most basic information I can give on the subject.

I wasn't raised in a religious family, and chose Wicca as it fit me best. I say, instead of saying we can't display anything, make sure there is equality in what is displayed. Allow symbols of all religions on public property. Let every learn about everyone, and most importantly let the children see that there are people on this earth who believe many different things. If they were allowed to see a bit of everything, I'm bet it would help eliminate biased eventually.

you know, I lived in a jewish comminity in flushing queens for a while. Not just jewish, but russian orthodox jewish. As a christian, I had no problems with that. I really don't see the point of banning christmas stuff from our schools though. If there are members of the student body with other faiths, they have every right in the world to put on their own play, or activities. Shit, Hannukah has a cool background to it, as a christian, I would not mind having my kids, if I had kids, to view stuff of that nature. I believe the bullshit seperation of church and state is infringing on our rights of freedom of speech. I say give people a choice, don't just take everything away and offer anything.

Religion has no place in public school or politics. Just look at The Spanish Inquisition or the Taliban to see what happens when the two get intertwined.

That said, common sense very much belongs in both, and getting pissy over a Dickens classic is nothing to teach kids.

Personally I find Santa (the commercial, coke-invented version) to be far more annoying than any religious part of the holiday. The fact is, Christmas is a religious holiday, that is holy to a huge part of the world's population Christians and Muslims), and it should be treated as such. If you don't like that and don't want nativity scenes and so on that's fine, but substituting a bunch of stupid neon decorations and some guy in a suit whose sole purpose is as a marketer for the big retail companies is not the thing to do. Either observe Christmas for what it really is, or simply take it to be a much-deserved day where you can either sleep in and relax or get double-time-and-a-half. If it's not holy to you, why invent some false god to "worship" when you may as well just give the credit to the Federal Gov. for making it a holiday?

That's fine but tell that to the schools that include Kwaanza and Chanukah songs.

Out of curiosity Agent do you take advantage of a Christian Holiday to get free presents?
