EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2002 I've only seen four Ohtani matches...and three of em are from 2001...so it ain't the good shit. The fourth was a clipped match with Benoit from April of 95 I believe... So my question to you, oh Puro comrades...suggest a match to me that would make me a big fan of Ohtani. Granted, I was gonna get a copy of Starrcade 95, but if something else entices...I'd like to see it. Your thoughts?

Guest The Mighty Damaramu Report post Posted December 11, 2002 Looking for a good Ohtani match is like looking for an chinese man in china town....they're everywhere!
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted December 11, 2002 Yes, the J*Crown is '96. "Is this some kind of rib?" Nah, the type of ribs this place would get would probably be much deliberate, like say, declaring Hogan/Andre the best match ever. You know, high concept stuff. EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2002 All I know is that you guys think he's a great performer in that ring and I want to see what all the fuss is about.
Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted December 11, 2002 Look in matches to check out, I'm sure there are plenty of them listed. Look for his two matches vs. Tajiri (1/4/97, and on the BOSJ comm.), his BOSJ 1994 vs. TAKA, and don't forget his J* Crown match vs. Benoit (Final Power Hall in Tokyo Dome IIRC)

Guest DragonflyKid Report post Posted December 11, 2002 The following tape is a good starter, after watching it I definitely wanted to go pick up more Ohtani's work. It doesn't have his greatest matches or have matches in full but you get a good sense of what kind of wrestler he is. At GoldenBoyTapes.com it's only $7.00 and has VG VQ. Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted December 11, 2002 The '96 matches Tim listed are pretty much proof beyond any doubt that Ohtani was a God-like performer. He's long since fallen off the mountain, it would seem.
EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2002 He looked OK in the 2001 matches, but he didn't look like the cheating rudo-like god that people made him out to be.
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted December 12, 2002 Yeah, even before the transfer to heavyweight, he was developing bad habbits. A lot of people are still huge fans of his character and continue to enjoy his work, but he hasn't done anything that comes close to his 1996. If you see that stuff, the hype will start to make sense to you.
Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted December 12, 2002 Ohtani from 1994-1997 was a real treat, he was so damn good and had that great attitude, but it seems like after he droped the Title to Lyger, he lost his motovation, and the team with Takaiwa was doing for Takaiwa than it was for him. Guest blachuuh_monkey Report post Posted December 13, 2002 Ohtani/Benoit vs Sasuke/Black Tiger 2 matches from the 1994 tag tournament (I'm not sure which one but someone here can tell you) are both awesome matches in my opinion.
