Pro Wrestling DVD's: What are some good ones?

Just a wondering, I'm looking to buy a few. Does anyone around sell custom made DVD's?

custom DVDs would rule but there is still the matter of the format wars plus the media starting cost at $5 for on blank DVD. I think within 18 months home made DVD comps will be an option but right now it is too costly and the MACROVISION bitches wanting to block it from ever happening.

 

As for commercial DVDs you can never go wrong with Mick Foley videos or Pride FC events.

WWE/WWF PPV's: Judge most of the PPV's by the quality of the event. There are a few events with quality extras (Wrestlemania 18's full match of Warrior/Hogan at WM 6, for instance), so use Amazon as your guide. For the foreign events, Insurrextion 2001 and Global Warning are two great buys. GW has a few worthwhile extras on it as well.

 

Feature Presentations: If you miss alot of the old "RAW is WAR" stuff from 1997-1999, get "The Best of Raw: Vol. 1 & 2". Definitely worth the purchase. WWF Action basically recaps most of last year's happenings, with full match extras (8 to be exact, from Raw and Smackdown). WWF Hardcore is a throwaway program, but it has matches up the wazoo (20+ Hardcore bouts).

 

Profiles:

Hulk Still Rules -- An AWESOME DVD. Get it for the extraordinary amount of matches that will bring back old memories. The main program is above-average.

SCSA: WHAT?!? -- Average program, a few extras to contemplate purchase. But if you purchase the Viewer's Choice DVD (see below), you've already got 2 of these matches.

HHH: The Game -- Another average program, but the 1989 Wrestlewar Flair/Steamboat encounter(an full-match extra, BTW.) makes it worth it for the average smark.

The Rock: Just Bring It -- 2 different types: Your basic profile DVD, then the extra-laden "Special Edition" DVD. Pick that one up, obviously. You'll get a good amount of matches (Vengeance 2002 Triple Threat, for one) but if the Rock promos are not your "cup of tea", stay clear of this one.

nWo: Back in Black -- An "eh" program with a good Wargames match, and the 6-man tag that started it all.

I wouldn't recommend custom DVD's, because I've yet to see a decent one. I've picked up a few Raw event VCDs off of eBay for cheap...

There's also the Best Of ECW DVDs like Path Of Destruction and theres a ton of FMW DVDs out also. Beware of horrible commentary for the FMW discs.

beware of the John Wantabe stupid faces between segments and repeating the names of moves. But on the positive side Masato Tanaka, Hayabusa, Megumi Kudo did have some good matches in FMW.

 

King of Death Match is a must have

 

other than that just get the best of DVDs of Hayabusa or Tanaka. The Hayabusa vs Mr Gannosuke matches are also must see.

I don't think so. It would probably surface around late Janurary or early February of 2003.

 

I'm still waiting for the 2nd half of 2001 that WWF Action promises to cover "in its next installment", and WWF: Best of Raw Volume 3.

X-7- Best PPV ever- could've had more extras though

 

Judgement Day 2001- Decent PPV and it has the hilarious Angle medal ceremony

 

WWF Action- Get it just for Austin v. Angle from Jan and Billy Bitchcakes

 

Summerslam 2001- Austin Appreciation night is on here and the show kicks ass

 

Rebellion- Decent show featuring Rock v. Austin and Y2J v. Angle plus Y2J v. Rock from RAW as an extra.

 

Survivor Series 2001- It has Flair's return to the WWF making it a recommendation

 

Vengeance- No extras but the show is good.

 

RR02- Kid Rock's 'Cocky' is dubbed over but commentary from Tazz and Spike and interviews with Flair, Angle and a hilarious Austin promo make this a good buy.

 

X-8- 2 Discs and tons of stuff including Hogan v. Warrior

 

Austin: What? The main feature is great and it has 3 Stages of Hell and a match with Steamboat from BATB94.

 

nWo: Only get it if you want a quick primer on the nWo.

 

Hulk Still Rules: The feature is pretty good and this puppy is loaded with extras.

 

HHH:The Game- Get it just for Flair v. Steamboat and the wedding.

 

Judgement Day- Not available in US unless on Shopzone. I enjoyed the show and it has Regal v. D-Lo from HEAT.

 

KOTR- Avoid. Unless you wanna see a shitty show with no extras- don't pick this up,

 

Vengeance- Only available at shopzone but it's a pretty good show with Hogan/Edge v. Billy-n-Chuck and clips of the Confidental with Bischoff are some of the extras.

 

Summerslam 2002- The show rocks and there lots of extras including Hogan v. Brock.

 

Unforgiven 2002- Has two MOTYC on the actual PPV and some decent extras including Rey v. Chavo from HEAT.

beware of the BO2001 DVD, it might be a DVD of the show they did, which is just the matches heavily clipped, Lawler and Cole being annoying, and stupid 'top 5' segments

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THE BEST OF 2001 DVD.

 

Going by the match list, I picked it up for the equivalent of $6 - and it was a waste of money. It's just like the original TV broadcast - all the matches are clipped and bucthered, except for the Triple HGH/Austin 2/3 falls match which made it through relatively intact.

 

As for the ECW DVDs, I've already reviewed Extreme Evolution for the site, and if you come back on Christmas Day, you might find something else along those lines... I've reviewed Beyond The Mat, too - you guys are starting to make me think no-one reads me...

 

DOn't forget the Ring of Honor DVDs are out now at RF.

 

And I've seen Best of RAW vol. 3 on VHS, but I don't buy those any more. ANyone know what it's like?

I'd recommend picking up any of the ECW DVD's. The only one I really don't like is Wrestlepalooza '97. Other than the Lawler invasion, there's nothing on it that entertained me.

 

The "FMW: King of the Deathmatch" is quality, but my favorite is the Hayabusa DVD. I believe it's called "The Flying Assasin." Pick it up if you're a Hayabusa fan like me.

I'm just gonna list the ones I have:

 

ECW Hardcore History-For the four ECW comp tapes, easily the best, with Juvi/Rey, The Trinity vs. Sabu/Taz, and the greatest ECW match of all time, 2/3 falls, double dog collar, Raven/Richards vs. Pitbulls. Also comes with the Alfonso/Beulah blood bath, where Bill tapped a FUCKING GUSHER. Half the ring with blood.

 

Steve Austin's Greatest Hits-AWESOME for the people wanting to know about Austin in his early days. Very cool look with him down in the southern feds during the beginning of his career.

 

Triple H: The Game-Not ONLY does it have the RR 2000 match in full...it's Steamer/Flair in the greatest technical NA match of all time. Fucking brilliant for HHH making the smarts get their worth here. Didn't show the 5/21/01 RAW match though. Kinda sucked.

 

ECW Deep Impact: The weakest of the four ECW comps. Only REALLY good matches are Awesome/Credible vs. Lynn/Tanaka and Psicosis/Tajiri, where Tajiri kicks Psicosis' head all the way back to Tijuana.

 

Royal Rumble 2000: Has the greatest Hardcore Brawl in WWE history, and the first tag team tables match, and a good rumble...but stay away from the bikini contest...I beg of you...

 

ECW Barely Legal: First ECW PPV ever, even though it misses the dark matches for commercialization, gets RVD over as a big fish in a small pond, shows that PURORESU IS THE MOTHERFUCKING GREATEST WRESTLING OUT THERE with an MPro 6-man, and of course, Terry Funk winning the title. The Sabu/Taz grudge match is really disappointing, though.

 

ECW Path of Destruction: Only known tape with the 4-way dance for the TV title. The match with the ECW debut of the Jericho Spike (top rop super rana). Also has the BBB/RVD match with Van Dam's two INSANE planchas, the one where his streak began. Oh yeah...and Eddie and Dean have their farewell match, and DEAN SPEAKS. Psicosis and Rey become the first luchadores in ECW in a stunning match for its time.

 

WM X-Seven: Probably the best PPV the WWE has ever made. TLC II, Rocky/Austin, Benoit/Angle, McMahon/McMahon where Shane nails the VAN TERMINATOR to start the InVasion angle in full swing until Lance shows up, and of course, the Gimmick Battle Royal. Eddie also gets a good match out of Test.

 

That's it for me. I really don't got that much in the wake of DVDs, but it sure rocks the body that rocks the party. A little bit of everything.

Eh- the whole tape is pretty much one long video package although it shows Regal beating Al Snow for the European title.

Does anybody know where I could get the FULL version of Yokohama Deathmatch since it only has 3 full matches on it?
