Lose Yourself

This goes to the people who, like me and probably everyone else, listen to music on their computers as they spend way too much time on them, or have their portable CD players on, or are just sitting at home taking in perhaps their favorite album... and sing along, of course. We all sing along to songs we like, and it's no use denying it. Anyways...

 

What are some songs that, during the course of your singing along, you literally lose yourself and allow it to swallow you whole in the process? Not like you're performing it, like you ARE what the singer is trying to put forth with his voice.

 

For me, it's the entire OK Computer album for a detached and pained feeling, and a lot of Korn songs for a really paranoid mindset. If I want to feel loving and become totally exuberant, it's you-know-who or some Abba. If I want to just fly around a little, it's later Beatles work, specifically "Free as a Bird." For blinding rage, it's "Natural Born Killers."

 

Then again, this could all just be me, as I REALLY get into my stuff when I'm listening to it, doing so much as the Thom Yorke seizure-dancing at times.

I lose myself in Radiohead's 'Paranoid Android' it practically describes the way I feel a lot of the time.

'Be Quiet & Drive' by The Deftones, because the lyrics I relate to completely.

Muse's 'Showbiz' because I have often ended up following other people instead of being myself. (I recommend everyone to download this track. I don't know how big Muse are in America.)

I'm an absolutely wretched singer, but I've got a decent growl. The only non-death vocals I can do worth a damn is a somewhat decent impersonation of the guy from Clutch.

 

I always end up getting sucked into one of three bands: Floyd/Sabbath for listening, and Nasum if I feel like testin' out the ol' pipes.

 

I never attempt to sing along with Floyd or anything melodic though, it'd just ruin it.

Last night I learned the true meaning of Trance. I don't think I've ever felt so free and, well, high. Absolutely incredible. Who needs drugs? I was tripping naturally. At the peak of "Exhale" by System F, I was in a frenzy, in my own little world. My legs stopped hurting from all of the dancing, my arms got renewed and enhanced strength after all the glowsticking, it was just absolutely mind-blowing.

 

And by the way, ACOSTA = GOD.

Actually, I couldn't hear anything very well for a couple of hours afterward. Only bruises I had were where I held the glowsticks in my fingers. Swelled too.
