EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted January 1, 2003 Anybody remember who actually came to the US from Japan for this tourney? I mean, I know Madusa was in on it and such, but who else? Kong? Anybody?
Guest Joe_G Report post Posted January 1, 2003 From the invaluable Pro Wrestling Supercards page, here were the original brackets (Hosaka went over Madusa in the finals). WCW Women's Title Tournament November - December 29, 1996 Madusa Micelli Reina Jabuki Zero (Nagoya) Malia Hosaka Kaoru Sonoka Kato Akira Hokuto Meiko Satomura And WCW decided one woman's title wasn't enough, so they actually had a four woman tournament for a woman's cruiserweight title (Uemtasu over Hosaka in the finals) WCW Women's Crusierweight Title Tournament March - April 7, 1997 Toshie Uemtasu Meiko Satomura Malia Hosaka Sonoko Kato
Guest wolverine Report post Posted January 1, 2003 Reina Jabuki is Akira Hokuto under a mask.... And Zero was Chigusa Nagayo.
Guest papacita Report post Posted January 1, 2003 I always thought Zero was Aja Kong.
Guest wolverine Report post Posted January 1, 2003 Nope. Kong's only stint in the U.S. was with the WWF at Survivor Series '95 and the Raw tapings afterwards.
Guest Mole Report post Posted January 6, 2003 So this tourney couldn't of been that bad since it featured mostly Japan women wrestling. Since I bash women's wrestling a lot, I've been told Japanesse women are actually good at wrestling. Wasn't this tourney made just to showcase Madusa? EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2003 Actually, somebody else actually WON the tourney, and then Madusa won the title and lost it to somebody else. That hella fat white chick managed by somebody...
Guest MillenniumMan831 Report post Posted January 9, 2003 Actually, I don't think Madusa ever won the title. I know that Madusa beat Zero in the semifinals and I think she had to fight Akira Hokuto in the finals. I think Hokuto won and Madusa lost a rematch at GAB97 that forced her into "retirement". Of course, I could be wrong.
Guest wolverine Report post Posted January 9, 2003 Since I bash women's wrestling a lot, I've been told Japanesse women are actually good at wrestling. Yeah, you should take a look. Akira Hokuto at her peak (1993) was *gasp* better than Ric Flair at his peak.
Guest Kagato Otaku Report post Posted January 9, 2003 Hokuto was the first and only WCW Women's Champion.
EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2003 And she could have made a woman's division in WCW, but, of course, they went all Bill Watts in the Tag Tourney and didn't let it happen...another reason why WCW sucked...
Guest razazteca Report post Posted January 9, 2003 I remember a match at a PPV that had the women fight over motorcycles or monster trucks or something really silly, it was Madusa vs somebody. when was this?
Guest MillenniumMan831 Report post Posted January 10, 2003 That was against Bull Nakano at Hog Wild 1996. This was before the women's championship.

Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted January 11, 2003 Believe it. So were Toyota, Kong, Yokota, Yamada, Kyoko Inoue and others.
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2003 Hokuto beat Madusa at Starrcae 96 with a brainbuster after Sony Onoo hit her with the Japanese flag (Kensuki Sasaki was in the corner too since he's married to her). Then they had a 6-month buildup to a rematch where Madusa had to fight off Luna Vachon and random Japanese girls. So she puts her career on the line...and loses again. I remember her selling a knee injury like it was death and she was crying like a baby. That was the last defense of the title on WCW TV. You can't really have a division when the champion is the only competitor around.
