Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted January 3, 2003 For those who saw, they ran a promo saying the "Dead Man" will return at the Royal Rumble with showing some old school clips of Taker. I marked out huge and since I'm going to be at the Fleet Center, this is shaping up to be like the most awesome PPV in a while. Discuss.
Guest El Luchadore Magnifico Report post Posted January 3, 2003 It's definitely better than his current Greasy Biker gimmick, although I'm a bit disappointed that they didn't keep it a surprise.

I would of marked out more if it happened live, but at least it's good to know something cool is going to happen at the Rumble.
Guest Mole Report post Posted January 3, 2003 Hart, your lucky your gonna be there. I didn't mark out, but it will be sweet to see him come back.
Guest LaParkaMarka Report post Posted January 3, 2003 I dunno guys. I mean, he's still going to be the same useless slug he was during his last run. I liked the Undertaker back in the day, but he isn't the same guy anymore. Bringing back his old gimmick won't change his workrate or his selling ability. I liked the Undertaker back in the day, but he isn't the same guy anymore. Bringing back his old gimmick won't change his workrate or his selling ability. Sometimes the gimmick makes the man though. I liked Taker WAY better when he was in the darkside rather than Bikertaker.
Guest cabbageboy Report post Posted January 3, 2003 Actually YES the gimmick will mask the crappy workrate and non existent selling. That was the whole point of his original gimmick as the Taker, after all.
ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2003 I had a thought... Brock vs. Big Show... Undertaker Returning... Big Show put Taker on the shelf... Anyone see where I'm going with this?
Yuna_Firerose 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2003 The Phenom's promos will be good enough...he won't have to step into the ring as much..
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted January 3, 2003 Just saw it now. Wow. Big F'n Deal. Sigh. Will they ever learn? Not like it matters. "Imbued by the HHHigher Power... ...To squash anyone under 37 with talent... The no-selling begins again."
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Report post Posted January 3, 2003 Um.....actually he sold more with his old gimmick than he does now. But still it's Taker. No costume will change the fact that it's still f'n Taker, the old bastard who has no business hanging around.
Guest BobBacklundRules Report post Posted January 3, 2003 I marked out like FUCK!!!! The phenom gimmick was the reason why I watched WWF when I was a kid, I was 7 years old in '94 when they had the taker vs. taker angle and I was scared as hell. I remember watching something that had to do with undertaker sightings and someone saw him in San Fransisco and then he was all over! I was like HOLY SHIT there's TWO of these monsters! I HATED when Taker switched to the Kid Rock biker gimmick because he really showed his age and what a horrible wrestler he is. I was watching Smackdown and they showed the old school Taker clips and I thought it was a desire video then it said he'd be back at the Royal Rumble, I stood up and screamed HOLY FUCK!!! I'm seriously going to order the Royal Rumble.
Guest Mattdotcom Report post Posted January 3, 2003 I wonder if this marks the beginning of the end of 'Taker's run or just a nostalgic thing.
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted January 3, 2003 I HATED when Taker switched to the Kid Rock biker gimmick because he really showed his age and what a horrible wrestler he is. Uh, hair tint and a torn-up black outfit won't make his matches any better, man.
Guest Slapnuts00 Report post Posted January 3, 2003 Another reason to order the Rumble. My question is how will it be explained? I thought they already went through with the whole "Mark was just playing a charcter" and here's the real Undertaker thing...I guess I shouldn't think too hard about it. Guest creativename Report post Posted January 3, 2003 Um.....actually he sold more with his old gimmick than he does now. Yes, that's very true. Surprisingly, he sells a lot less now than he used to when he was an undead zombie. Darkside Taker was one of my all-time favorites. I marked like like a mofo when that came on. Thinking about it though, I think this might just be yet another patented WWE bait-and-switch. I think that Undertaker will be Darkside Taker in his final run, but I can't see this as being his final run (perhaps it should be, but that's besides the point). That commercial was probably just a tease.

Well, he wrestles like he's dead so a deadman character would be more fitting for his gimmick
ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2003 I'm hoping that Undertaker enters the Royal Rumble match... And is eliminated by Surprise Entrant Bob Backlund.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted January 3, 2003 I predict that the fake Undertaker will be in the Royal Rumble, coming down early in the match. Later in it, the REAL Taker, in current biker gimmick will come in and destroy him. You heard it here first people. I marked out like HELL when I saw it, but quickly thought of the above happening. I thought they already went through with the whole "Mark was just playing a charcter" and here's the real Undertaker thing...I guess I shouldn't think too hard about it. You know better than to question that. They changed Kane's gimmick from regular guy that goes to parties and drives girls around, to squirrel-torturer, in a matter of weeks. This is nothing. You know better than to question that. They changed Kane's gimmick from regular guy that goes to parties and drives girls around, to squirrel-torturer, in a matter of weeks. This is nothing. It's quite simple. Big Show killed Bikertaker. So he's the dead man again.
Yuna_Firerose 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2003 Kane was in an insane asylum most of his life, and YET, they gave him time off to go and rape a dead gal. BUUUUUUUUT, each Christmas he spent in his basement, razor blading squirrels. Next we'll find out that he spends every Easter BBQing bunny rabbits. To paraphrase Downhome..."you heard it here first". Guest Downhome Report post Posted January 3, 2003 IF they actually take Taker back to his former self, what the hell will they do with his hair? His long hair was a vital part of the gimmick.

Guest The Mighty Damaramu Report post Posted January 3, 2003 Yes that's another thing I was thinking of. Is 2 months enough for the man to grow his hair back out?
Guest Downhome Report post Posted January 3, 2003 Yes that's another thing I was thinking of. Is 2 months enough for the man to grow his hair back out? I suppose he could always borrow the remains of Eddy's mullet. That can be where Taker get's his power, rather than the urn. Speaking of THAT... ...will this be the version of The Undertaker that didn't have Paul and the urn, or will they REALLY take a chance and try to bring ALL of this back? Again, IF they actually go through with it, I still think we'll see the fake one for one match.
Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted January 3, 2003 Paul Bearer doesn't work their any more, and was disgusted with the Katie Vick angle, putting it down heavily. In fact, I think he left just before the Raw TLC match where it began. So I think we'll see urn-less, Bearer-less Taker. He doesn't need anyone to speak for him anymore anyway. And by all rights this should be his final run, then he could retire. Of course, I'd think he'd want to, starting a family, having well over ten years in the business, being champ several times--what else can he accomplish? Hopefully on his way out he'll help make a new star, though.
Yuna_Firerose 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2003 I completely agree, TS. He's fought almost everyone from Hogan to Jeff Hardy, Kurty to Brocky. Although, and I may be the only one in this, I will miss him when he retires. Especially considering I'm just starting out as a fan, and I can only relive those Phenom moments through clips and videos. He should at least become a trainer....or perhaps a manager?
